THE NEXT DAY AT THE PALACE
.
The king could been seen in his palace with the elders and his guards standing beside him.
king: i greet you all my elders, u are all welcome to my palace, the reason why i called for this meeting is that i want to increase the tax money from five percent to ten percent.
elder uba: but your highness the money is too much, even the five percent the villagers are paying is too much they can’t afford it, not to talk of ten percent.
elder okafor: please your highness, why not leave it the amount we were paying before, think of the poor ones who can’t even afford five percent of the money not to talk of the ten percent you want to increase.
king: elder okafor, you are very stupid for questioning my order, anybody who cannot afford the money shall be my prisoner and also i will take the person’s land and entire property.
elder elebuo: am sorry to interrupt you my king, you spoke well but why not reduce the money to seven percent instead of ten percent, because not everybody can afford it i beg of you, ten percent is too much for us.
king: ten percent is not too much, everybody must pay the money and that is final, the meeting is over, you all can go (so the elders left the palace)
on their way, they started talking about the issue.
elder okafor: our king is very wicked, how can he increase the tax money from five percent to ten percent
elder uba: he doesn’t care about the villagers is only himself and his family he knows.
elder elebuo: where does he expect us to get the money from.
elder okafor: i don’t know ooo….. that reminds me, you know in six days time another person shall be use as a sacrifice for our goddess.
