THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 11 – 20

Kaiden’s eyes snapped up, “What do you mean?” He asked curiously.

“We found something out.” Ryder said.

“What is it?”Kaiden asked.

“The girl she kill was a demon.” Ryder said.

Kaiden’s eyes widened in shock. “What’s that?”

“Demons are the worst enemies we have here in Nightshade. They’re led by their queen, Epusa, and they’re very dangerous. They kill us, Kaiden, and they always sneak into town and school to do it.” Ryder explained.

“So what is she doing here?” Kaiden asked.

“That’s another surprise. Demons haven’t been able to sneak into our school for years, but somehow they broke our shield and got in. We have to rebuild the shield, but it’s possible that a lot of them are already inside. That’s why it’s so dangerous, Kaiden. The demons are tricky and can blend in seamlessly.” Ryder said.

Kaiden’s eyes were wide with fear and understanding.

“Are you saying Maledicta saved us?” He asked.

Ryder nodded, “Yes, Kaiden. If she hadn’t spotted that demon, who knows how many people would have been killed?” Ryder said.

Kaiden’s face was pale, his eyes haunted by the realization of what he had done.

“I’ll go to my room,” he said quietly.

“Please, Kaiden, you have to be careful. The demons are still out there, and we don’t know what they’re capable of.” Ryder said.

Kaiden’s mind was reeling with thoughts and emotions as he walked back to his room. He couldn’t forget the harsh words he had spoken to Maledicta, and he couldn’t help but feel bad for it.

He wished he could take it back, wished he could apologize and make things right. But he didn’t know if that was even possible, he feel so guilty.

Aka suddenly appeared in the throne room, a slight cut on her neck. She stumbled forward, her eyes fixed on Epusa, before she almost fell. But she managed to catch herself, supporting her weight with the wall.

Epusa’s eyes widened in concern as she rushed to Aka’s side.

“Are you okay?” she asked worriedly, examining the cut on Aka’s neck.

Aka waved her hand dismissively. “This is nothing. I’ll soon be okay.” She said and the cut on her neck began to close up, the skin knitting together seamlessly. Aka started laughing, a manic glint in her eye.

“What happened there?” Epusa asked, her eyes narrowing with concern.

Aka’s laughter grew louder, “I must have underestimated her, just like you said. I disguised myself as one of their students and tried to poison her, but she figured me out.”

Aka’s laughter grew even louder, her body shaking with mirth. “I begged her to spare my life, but she cut my head off instead.” She said.

“I told you she’s not to be looked down on. That girl was born with the power of the world. She can control anything, and she attracts doom to herself and to anyone around her.” Epusa said.

Aka’s laughter finally began to subside, “I’m not giving up after one trial. Her power can be useful to me too.” Aka said.

“What’s your plan?”Epusa’s eyes narrowed.

Aka’s smile grew wider. “I’ll go to the school like a normal student. I’ll try to get close to her, and then I’ll get her.” She said.

“That can be dangerous. You’re not even sure if you can trust yourself around her.” Epusa said.

Aka’s eyes flashed with confidence. “I know what to do. The moment I enter the school, we can bring in demons and take over.” She said.

Epusa’s face broke out into a wide smile. “I trust you,” she said.
