Chapter 25

Brittany’s pov

“Why did you marry me if you didn’t like “girls” “ I asked. A question I have been dying to know the answer.

I noticed his expression changed.

“Why don’t we check up on my mom to see if she is awake” he said.

“Oh okay” I uttered, understanding he doesn’t want to talk about it and we walked back to the hospital.

We entered the room she is in and she was lying on the bed, her eyes closed.
I walked closer to her bed while Hayden followed behind.

“She looks so much like you” I confessed staring at her.

“Got my awesome looks from her”

I scoffed. “Cocky much”

“You know it’s true” he said.

I huffed. “I won’t agree with you” I said while he smiled and I could swear it, that made my heart skip a bit.

“Uhm, have you had breakfast?” I asked.

“No” he replied.

“Why don’t we grab breakfast ?”

“Sounds like a good idea” he agreed.

10 minutes later, we are in an eatery sitting opposite each other eating pasta and chicken.

“You know you should be in school right now. It’s first week. You shouldn’t be missing classes”

“Just for today. Stop being so serious” I rolled my eyes.

“Anyways, Thanks”

“For?”

“For coming”

“Oh that’s nothing. I hope your mom wakes up just fine”

“She would. Don’t worry” he said even though he looked worried.

I nodded and we ate in silence afterwards. I could feel him stealing glances at me but I just ignored.

We finished eating and left the eatery.

“Are you going back to the hospital?” I asked him.

“Yeah, want to be there when she wakes up”

“Okay. Will go with you”

We went back to the hospital and sat on the chair in the ward.

A disturbing silence sets in and I proceeds to break it.

“Hayden” I called and he looked up at me.

“Yeah?”

“Why didn’t you answer my question? Why you married me” I said and he looked away.

“Because I don’t want to talk about it” he said.

“Why?” I asked in curiosity.

“I…will tell you about it later” he sounded uncomfortable.

“Okay?” I arched my brows.

Andy and Brenda’s call came in in the afternoon. They were asking why I wasn’t in school.

I can’t possibly tell them. “My husband’s mom is in the hospital and I’m staying with him at the hospital to show my support”

H’ll No.

“I’m down with fever” I lied.

“How are you now? Have you gone to the hospital” Andy asked.

“I have used drugs. I would be fine”

“Where do you stay? Let Brenda and I come check on you”

“No, no, no” I hurriedly said. “There’s no need for that, I will come to school tomorrow. Gotta go, bye” I dropped the phone immediately and took a deep breath.

Hayden was in the Doctor’s room having a word with the doctor while I was still in the ward.

I glanced at the bed and noticed his mom’s hand moved. I walked closer to her and watches her. Her eyelashes blinks and it seems she was trying to open her eyes.

I was about leaving the room to call the Doctor’s attention but stopped when she opened her eyes.

“Oh my God!” I uttered happily.

She looked at me confusedly and then around the room and back at me.

“Where am I?” Was the first thing she asked.

“Wow, I will get the doctor” I left the room immediately and bumped into Hayden who was heading towards the room.

“She opened her eyes and…”

Hayden didn’t allow me finish as he walked past me and entered the room.

He walked up to the bed and held her hand.

“Mom”

“Hayden?”

“Wow, you remember me” he said with a shocked tone.

“What are you talking about?”

“Never mind. How are you feeling?” He asked instead.

“Weak. Where am I?”

“Hospital. I would get the doctor” he said but I stopped him.

“Stay with her. I would do that” I offered and he nodded appreciatively.

I left the room in search of the doctor and found him in no time. I told him she have woken up and he followed me back to the room.

“The doctor said she would spend a few days at the hospital and would get discharged afterwards. She has recovered but still need to be observed carefully” Hayden explained to me.

“I’m happy she is fine” I said truthfully.

“I’m too. I thought I had lost her”

“Not been with her for a year must have been really tough.” I uttered and he nodded.

“I would call the driver to take you back home”

“What about you?” I asked.

“I will stay with her.”

“When would you come back?”

“Before dinner.”

“You sure?”
Why am I acting weird.

“Yeah. I promise” he said and I nodded.

The driver came over and took me home. I kept thinking about Hayden.

“You are just feeling pity for him, that’s all” I assured myself.

EVENING

The maid came to inform me dinner is ready. Hayden wasn’t back and I was contemplating whether to call him or not.

It was at that moment he arrived. I felt happy, don’t know the reason tho.

He said he wants to take a shower and he would join me.

I nodded and went to wait in the dining. He came back shortly and we had dinner together in silence.

When we were done, we retired to the bedroom and both laid on the bed. There was tension in the air and I wondered why.

Hayden started. “She didn’t know about the accident. To her, it was yesterday she boarded the plane coming from Canada. She wasn’t aware of anything and the doctor said to let her recover fully before letting her know”

“So she didn’t know we are married” I said and he nodded positively.

“I would tell her when she is discharged and introduce you to her”

“What if she doesn’t like me” I wanted to ask but decided not to. It will make me seem nervous which I am But Hayden doesn’t have to know that.

We both look at ourselves silently and I gulped down nothing.

He started moving his head closer to mine and I hate to admit it but I really want to kss him right now.

I made the first move and kssed him. He seems shocked and didn’t move his lips for a while but he later recovered and kssed me back.
