He released me, one hand going to his lip as he stared at me, surprise and something darker flashing in his eyes.

The taste of his blood lingered on my tongue, and I forced myself to meet his gaze, ignoring the way my heart hammered in my chest, betraying my attempts to appear calm.

“Don’t ever… don’t ever think you can touch me,” I spat, my voice low and steady, even as my chest rose and fell with rapid breaths.

For a moment, he didn’t move, didn’t speak. He just watched me, his hand still resting on his lip, where a faint smear of blood marked where I’d bitten him.

There was a tension in the air, thick and crackling, as if any second now, something would snap.

Slowly, he lowered his hand, and a wicked smile curled at the corners of his mouth. “So, you have claws after all,” he murmured, his voice a low purr. “Good.”

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. “Don’t act like this is some game, Lucifer,” I said, my voice harsher than I’d intended. “I’m not a toy for you to play with. I don’t care what you think you’re entitled to.”

He took a step forward, closing the space between us once again, but this time, I didn’t back down. I stood my ground, lifting my chin as he leaned close, his eyes glinting with something that made my stomach twist.

“You can pretend to hate me all you like, Selene,” he whispered, his voice soft, yet laced with a dark amusement. “But your body tells a different story.”

I felt a surge of anger at his words, but I forced myself to stay calm, not to let him get under my skin. “Believe what you want,” I replied coldly. “But I will never give you what you’re looking for.”

Lucifer smirked, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “We’ll see.” He reached out, his fingers brushing against my cheek, the touch so soft that it left me disoriented, unsure of where this was leading.

A beat passed, then another, and I felt my heartbeat slow, as if lulled by his presence. I hated that he had this effect on me.

Hated that, no matter how much I resisted, part of me couldn’t deny the pull he had, the way my body responded to his touch, to the heat in his gaze.

He leaned down again, his mouth hovering close to mine, as if daring me to give in once more.

I could feel my breath catch, my body betraying the anger that simmered beneath the surface, and for a moment, I thought he would kiss me again, that he would ignore every word I’d thrown at him and take what he wanted.

But then he pulled back, his eyes dark and knowing. “Consider this a warning, Selene,” he murmured, his voice a low, menacing whisper. “I won’t be so forgiving next time.” He smile ” come downstairs for dinner”

With that, he turned and stepped away, leaving me standing there, alone, my pulse still racing, my mind reeling. As the door closed behind him, I exhaled shakily, clutching at the bedsheets, struggling to regain control.

I wanted to hate him. I wanted to feel nothing but anger and defiance. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t ignore the way my heart had betrayed me, pounding wildly, refusing to let me forget the way his lips had felt against mine, the way his touch had seared through me.

And I hated myself for it. Hated that, despite everything, he’d managed to leave me shaken, questioning, wondering.
