ALL FOR NOTHING: Episode 11-20

ALL FOR NOTHING

Episode Fourteen

Timi called me up early that Saturday morning to remind me of the movie he was taking me to see.
“Hope Toyin is coming too?” He asked me.
“Yes, she is.” I replied.
I told mama about it but she wasn’t comfortable with it.
“Mama, it’s Timi I’m going with not any other person.” I said.
Mama was aware of my close relationship with Timi and with that I was able to get her approval.
Toyin and I had agreed to remain friends without any commitments. She had been sending me some really beautiful text messages.
She agreed to meet me at my place then the two of us could go together. I told mama about it because I wanted her to know that she could trust me.
Toyin arrived with her driver at about 3:45pm that Saturday evening. Mama had gone to church and I was alone. I was spreading the vegetable seeds in the sun when she arrived. It was the first time ever that she visited me at my place and I felt really ashamed because my house wasn’t as nice as her own. There was only one plastic chair in the house and a broken bench which we made to stand by resting it on a small stool. The floor was made of cement and had some broken spots were rats now had free access.
“You can go now.” Toyin said to her driver.
“But your father asked me to stay around and bring you back safe and sound. I don’t want to lose my job.” He said.
“Don’t worry about me, you can come back around 7:00 pm to pick me up. We are going to the lights house cinema and it’s not a place where something bad will happen to me.” Toyin replied.
The driver Mr Tayo had no choice but to drive back.
“So where is your mom?” Toyin asked.
“Mama has gone to church. She was looking forward to actually seeing you.” I replied.
“You don’t mean it do you?” She asked.
“Of course I do. Just wait let me dress up so we could start going.” I replied.
I took a shirt from my bag as I was on a singlet when she came in. I called Timi to tell him we were ready and he told me he was already near our house.
Timi had the privilege of driving. He was a year older than me and could drive.

He was with Sola and I was surprised to see the two of them. I didn’t know they were now close too.
“Good evening Sola.” Both Toyin and I greeted her as we took our seats at the back of the car.
Lighthouse cinema was just a few kilometers from my place and it was safe for Timi to drive on those roads.
“Toyin what’s up?” Timi greeted as he took hold of the steering wheel. A cool music was playing from the car’s stereo.
“Have you ever been to the movies before?” He asked.
“Yes I have.” Toyin replied.
“What category of movies are your favourites?” He asked.
“Well, I like all Disney cartoons. Black American best sellers and ancient films that are based on myths and legends.” She replied.
“What about you Sola?” Timi asked.
“I prefer White American romance movies and their comic action movies too.” She replied.
“What about you Ayo?” Timi asked.
I couldn’t believe my ears. I wasn’t expecting him to ask me such a question. I’m not the movie freak so I don’t really have favs when it comes to movies.
“Any one will do.” I replied.

We got to the cinema and joined the queue. There were two movies to be seen that evening and we just had one to pick. There was a Walt Disney movie titled “The Chronicles of Narnia”. It was everything Toyin ever wanted. I had made provision for the money to pay for mine and Toyin’s ticket. I didn’t really want to be a burden to Timi. I had to work for madam Fatimah that week so as to be able to pay for my ticket and Toyin’s.
We sat behind Timi and Sola who happened to be really happy together. I didn’t know what Timi was up to, but he was so into Sola that I almost forgot about the Movie.
At a point, Toyin rested her head on my shoulder. My heart was beginning to increase in it’s beating and I could feel like Timi was trying to stir up my emotions with Toyin on purpose. I didn’t know when I wrapped my arms around her making her have a comfortable posture.
I turned to look at her and she was staring at me. I had completely forgotten about the movie and was caught up in an emotional tug of war. I was having a wierd feeling to kss her but I was also trying to fight it.
I decided to look away but it wasn’t working.
“I love you Ayo” she whispered in my ears.
“I love you too” I found myself saying without intending to. She raised her head a bit higher as I kept staring at her. I didn’t intend to but our lips brushed across each other’s and it was a kss. My very first kss.
She smiled and I did too. It was against what my pastor normally preached in church. It was against Mama’s principles as a child of God.
The rest of the movie was just like that. We stole glances and smiled.
“How was it?” Timi asked.
“Not bad. I really enjoyed the movie.” I replied even if I didn’t follow it up till the end.
“See how real the lion looked in the movie. When will our movie makers in Nigeria upgrade to such standard?” Sola asked.
“They can’t ever! This country is just too backwards in everything. Thank God I’ll be studying overseas after my final exams.” Timi replied.
I was speechless as I kept remembering my first kss with Toyin.
The movie ended earlier so Timi suggested we go to a nearby restaurant and grab a bite.
I was not comfortable with the idea but he insisted. We got to the restaurant and all along my hands were clinched to Toyin’s.
We sat down to eat and it was all on Timi. He ordered for some alcoholic beverages which I don’t usually take.
“I don’t take alcohol.” I said to him.
“Me too” Toyin replied.
“Come on, stop being an old school guy. It’s just 23% alcohol and it won’t kill you.” He replied.
I tried saying no but he insisted that we take it. I had to go out as I was beginning to have a bad feeling about the whole stuff. Toyin came out to meet me and told me she wanted to call her driver to come and pick us up. I agreed with her but the driver’s number wasn’t going through.
We went back inside only to find out that Timi had replaced the alcoholic beverages with non alcoholic ones.
“I shouldn’t force my will on you guys. I had them returned. This is what you guys want right?” He asked.
I was having a really bad feeling about Timi’s behavior that evening. He was sounding and acting different. The drinks he brought were already opened by the time we got there and I was having second thoughts about drinking it.
Toyin took a sip and I watched to see if something different might be noticed in her but nothing of such happened. I took mine too and I felt normal. What was I thinking? Timi couldn’t possibly harm me for any reason.
We talked about other things until I suddenly felt dizzy.
I didn’t know what happened after wards but by the time I woke up, it was a different story to tell.
I woke up to find myself nked with Toyin in a room. Timi and Sola were not there. Toyin was crying.
I found my clothes on the floor and I didn’t know how they got there.
“What happened here?” I asked Toyin.
“What are we doing here? Where is this place?” I asked.
Toyin was still crying. She had been deflowered but I wasn’t sure it was me.
“Why did you do this Ayo?” She asked me.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“So this was your plan with Timi right? I thought you said you wanted us to give it time for us to be sure of what we were feeling? Why did you have to take advantage of me?” She said still crying.
We were still in the place which is thought was a restaurant unknown to me that it was a club and that we were in one of the rooms. Timi and Sola had long gone and I didn’t understand what was happening.
“You should have asked me if I wanted to. I didn’t expect to lose my vrgnity in this manner. You betrayed me Timi.” She said and walked out. I had no idea what the time was but I knew it was in the middle of the night.
I couldn’t run after her because I was not yet able to understand what was happening. I didn’t do that. I couldn’t have done that. I may not be really born again but I had principles and I was against $ex before marriage.
I couldn’t have done something like that especially not to Toyin. By the time I came out, Toyin was nowhere to be found. It was past ten and I knew mama was already worried about me.
I tried calling Timi but his phone was switched off. I still had some change with me so I took a cab and went home. I tried calling Toyin but she wasn’t picking my calls.

“Ayomide, what kind of movement is this na? And where is the Timi that you went with?” Mama asked.
I couldn’t say a word to mama. I was speechless and was hoping that what had happened earlier was nothing but a frightful nightmare.

“Mama, I’m sorry” I managed to reply. I couldn’t sleep that night. I logged into Facebook but Toyin had blocked me already. I tried calling her again but it appeared she had black listed me as I couldn’t get through to her.
I felt like just sleeping and not waking up. I knew I was in trouble and I didn’t know how to tell mama about it.
I knew Timi was behind what Happened but the fact that Toyin was deflowered was what troubled me. Could it be me? I wasn’t sure. I just couldn’t do something like that to Toyin. I decided to look for Toyin the following day and tell her I was innocent and had no idea what happened between the two of us….
