BLAZING EMOTIONS : CHAPTERS 41 – 50
By Naomi Cindy B.
CHAPTER 45
She held her nervous breaths, and their eyes locked.
“I mean… You’ll surely catch a cold, and that’d get Francesca worried” Maxwell said, and that drove her out of her thoughts.
“Huh?” She said senselessly and bit her lip immediately, inwardly cursing herself for that.
“Shall we talk now?” Maxwell asked, and she raised her lids.
“Talk right now? Like here?”
“Where else?” He asked, and she looked around.
Though there’s no one around, but the rain is still pouring, thanks to the umbrella covering them.
“We can just go into that cafe” she said, pointing at a small cafe beside the park.
“Cafe?”
“Yeah, we’ll talk better over there” she smiled.
“Wouldn’t it be too awkward? I mean… Me and you in a cafe at night, what if reporters…
“No reporter would come here in the rain, and I can bet there’s no one in” she cut in.
“What of the attendants?” He asked curiously.
“It’s a staffless cafe, self service after payment” she replied, and he nodded.
“Cool”
Three minutes later, they’re already in the cafe, seated on a table.
Jemima made the payment, and the options for their snacks appeared on their table screen.
“Care for snacks?” Jemima faced him.
“Is it gonna be a long night?” He asked, and she chuckled.
“Maybe, till the rain stops”
“Cheeseburger would do” he replied.
“I love cheeseburger too” Jemima said as she ticked cheeseburgers and chocolate cake…
“Anything else? They have cakes too” She asked.
“Tiramisu inclusive?” He asked.
“Of course!” She replied, ticking tiramisu plus a bottle of the most expensive wine available.
Immediately she submitted, they only waited for three minutes before it slid out through the food slide.
“I’ll get them” Maxwell said, taking them out to set on the table.
They settled down properly, and they began eating silently, starting with the cheeseburger.
“Hmm! It’s tasty” he said with two nods.
“I know, right?” She laughed, and he suddenly squinted.
“Wait… you’re being excessively nice tonight, you didn’t pay the runners of this place to poison the burger, right?” He asked, and she dropped her burger.
“I said I wanted to apologise to you, please believe me” she said.
“The fact that you made Frances happy is enough, you don’t have to apologise”
“Really? You forgive me now?” Her eyes widened.
“I hurt you too” he replied, and she blinked.
“What do you mean?”
“Your palms, they peeled when i pushed you that night..I know” he replied, and she quickly hid the plastered palms.
“Oh…that? It’s nothing, i hurt you more” she said.
