Chapter Fourteen
GRACE POV
“The quiet devl? Seriously, I find that too offensive”.I snorted and Kyree rose his brows confused.
“Uh…why?”.He asked and I sighed.
“Well cause it’s wrong to call someone a devil. I know he is quiet but….”.
“Haven’t you heard about what he did?”.He cut me off and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
So, it was true! Dylan really chopped off the girl’s finger!
“Shouldn’t we go to the cafeteria? The bell is gonna ring soon and you know what that means… End of lunch break!”.I changed the topic while breathing out a bit heavily.
I remembered Dylan’s eyes. So dark! So cold! But almost look innocent. Why would he do such a thing, why?
“Oh! You haven’t heard. The cafeteria was closed down today and so, everybody have to stay hungry for a while”.
“Oh!”.I mumbled, knowing it must be because of the principal’s wife death.
“Uh, are you hungry?”.He asked looking concerned.
“Yeah, a little bit though”.I replied and he smiled toothily.
“I have some spicy cookie here with me and I was actually wondering if we could sha…”.
“No, thanks!”.I answered sharply.
“Why?”.
“Nothing, I just don’t like spicy things”.I said with a slight frown.
‘Of course I do, but my stupid illness makes me avoid it”.I thought sadly.
“Really? Just try it, it’s good”.He smiled, shoving some packaged cookie on my palm.
“Have told you Ky, I don’t like spicy things in fact I hate cookies”.I said handling back the cookie to him.
“Am so sorry Grace”.He shrugged taking back the cookie.
“For what?”.
“I just felt like I was forcing you to eat the cookie. I was just being stubborn!”.
“No, you weren’t forcing me to eat the cookie and you weren’t stubborn, you were just being concerned”.I said and his face brightened up.
“Thanks Grace”.He said and just then, the school bell rang meaning lunch break was over.
“Oops! Lunch break is over”.I smiled but he frowned.
“Seriously? Why did it have to ring now?”.He groaned and I giggled seeing his expression.
His face was tightly squeezed in anger and his lips were pouting, he was looking kinda cute.
I smiled widely and stood from the bench we sat on.
“I will have to leave now Ky, I don’t want to be late for lectures”.I said and he stood up but in the process, his hair did some little jumps and that was when I noticed his hair was looking so shiny today.
“Gee! I terribly wish both of us were in the same class so that I can get to see you every time in school”.He said and I scoffed.
“You should be happy you are one class ahead of me, you all get to graduate before I do”.
“And that’s the problem, if I graduate before you do, I won’t get to see you like I use to”.
“So what are you gonna do? Fail your examinations, score poorly and then what? Get demoted to my class?”.I said and he beamed.
“Wow! That sounds like a good idea!”.
“Go$h! You are crazy”.I said and he chuckled. “Whatever, thanks to you am late for lectures. Goodbye!”.
I rasped and began walking away, making sure that he wasn’t following me by staring back at him thrice.
HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 11 – 20
I got to class but wasn’t so fortunate cause well Mr Kelvin, the biology teacher was already in class and was busy calling out the names of those paired together from a paper.
He saw me and turned to me with a slight frown crossing his face.
“Ugh! You students are so insolent…look at the time you’re coming to class after lunch break. I guess food must have blocked your ears from hearing the bell ring”.He scolded and most of the students in the class laughed.
I felt embarrassed..
“Or I guess she must have spent a lot of times with boys, so much that she became deaf”.A voice yelled and the class laughed again.
I scoffed knowing the voice to be that of Allison, one of Jeanann’s friends.
“Shut up!”.The teacher yelled at Allison. “And you!”. He turned back to me. “Go to your seat and let this not repeat itself”.
I just nodded dumbly and walked to my seat taking a look at Jeanann who was secretly eating biscuits. Oh! I wish to be paired with her since she is the only one am familiar with in class.
“So, let’s go back to business!”.The teacher said, taking his eyes back to the paper on his hands.
“Rose Benson and Mirabel Israel”.
“Finns Softwood and Jennifer Williams”.
“Sophia Tim and Alfie Johnson”.
And that was when I sighed hoping really hard to be paired with Jeanann but all hope got lost when I heard;
“Angela Matthews and Jeanann Kingsley”.
I gasped with a frown. So who am I going to be paired with, huh? But then I heard a shocker.
“Grace Uc…henna and Dylan?”.
And then for once in my life, I felt my heart stop beating.
