INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 151 – 160

By Succie Brown.

Adriana walked toward the couch and sat down, crossing her legs and resting them against the table as she casually picked up a cigarette from the ashtray. Just like Tabitha, she had a penchant for smoking.

“I had my doubts when you said you’d reenter Julio’s life through Richard. But how were you able to convince the doctor to go along with your plan?” Adriana asked, her voice laced with curiosity.

Tabitha turned to face the window, her lips curling into a sly smile. “It was easier than I expected,” she replied, a smirk lingering on her face as she reminisced.

**FLASHBACK**

Tabitha lay on the hospital bed, feigning unconsciousness, her breathing shallow and deliberate. She waited with a patience that came from years of manipulating situations to her advantage. When she heard the door creak open, her ears perked up as a doctor and nurse entered the room.

“When was she brought in?” the doctor asked, her voice clinical yet curious.

“Three minutes ago. Her vitals are stable, but I can’t understand why she collapsed,” the nurse replied, flipping through the medical chart. Tabitha, ever the actress, kept her eyes closed but shifted slightly, just enough to signal she was regaining consciousness.

“Ma’am, can you hear me?” the doctor called, gently touching her arm. “You fainted earlier, but everything seems fine. There’s nothing physically wrong with you.”

Tabitha fluttered her eyelids open and blinked, as if confused. She took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the doctor, gauging her response. With a calculated move, she whispered weakly, “Could I speak with you alone?”

The doctor glanced at the nurse, giving a subtle nod. The nurse excused herself, leaving the two women alone in the room.

“What do you want to talk about?” the doctor asked, her brow furrowing slightly. There was something about Tabitha’s demeanor that didn’t sit right with her.

“Do you know Richard Hernandez?” Tabitha asked, her voice tinged with false vulnerability.

The doctor’s expression softened at the mention of the name. “Yes, I do. Almost everyone in Las Vegas knows him. He owns one of the most luxurious hotels in the city. But why do you ask?”

Tears welled up in Tabitha’s eyes, though they were as fake as her concern for Richard. She had perfected the art of manipulation, and now was no different.

“He’s my son,” she began, her voice cracking with false emotion. “I did something horrible to him… I abandoned him, and he hates me for it. I need your help, doctor.”

The doctor remained silent, listening. “How can I help you?”

“I’ve suffered so much since then. I’ve lived on the streets, begging for scraps. I know I’m paying for my sins, but please…” Tabitha’s voice trailed off as she took a shaky breath, her tears flowing freely now. “Can you help me?”

“With what, exactly?” the doctor asked, still unsure of where this conversation was headed.

Tabitha wiped her eyes and took a deep breath before speaking again. “I need you to lie to Richard for me. Tell him I have amnesia—tell him an accident caused slight brain damage.”

The doctor’s eyes widened, and she immediately shook her head. “I can’t do that. It goes against every ethical code I follow. I can’t lie and say you have amnesia when you’re perfectly fine.”

“I know it’s wrong, but I’m begging you!” Tabitha said, her voice rising in intensity. “Richard will never forgive me for abandoning him unless he believes I’m truly incapable of remembering what I did. He can only accept me back into his life if he thinks I’ve lost my memory.”

“What if he finds out the truth?” the doctor asked, her skepticism clear.

“He won’t,” Tabitha insisted, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “I just need time to heal the wounds I caused before I tell him the truth. Please, doctor, can’t you see how much I’ve suffered for my sins? I only want a second chance with my son.”

The doctor hesitated, her gaze fixed on Tabitha’s tear-streaked face. She sighed deeply, conflicted. “I’ll be transferring to another hospital soon,” she said slowly. “If this ever gets out, I won’t be held responsible.”

Tabitha’s eyes lit up with triumph, though she kept her expression pitiful. “Does that mean you’ll help me?”

The doctor gave a reluctant nod.
