“Madam na Tokunbo Avenue we dey so o. na whichnumber you dey go?” her driver asked, “take me to number 17” she replied as the driver rode down the street slowly looking left and right, trying to find number 17.Finally, he pulled up in front of an ash coloured building with a black gate, “na number 17 be this” he announced, “okay just drive past and park further down about 3 blocks away, I’ll walk back to the house” Aunty Fanny ordered. “Ahn ahn! But we don already dey for front of house; why you wan come do Israelite journey come dey walk back again when you no be Moses?” the driver asked looking confused, “Silas, have you gone mad?” Aunty Fanny asked giving him a stern look, “sorry ma!” He quickly replied movingthe car away and parking 3 blocks down as she had instructed, “I’ll be back soon” Aunty Fanny said getting down from the car, “but if you don’t see me in 1 hour, raise an alarm immediately”“Alarm ke? Madam I never even get phone, talkless of the one wey get alarm clock wey I fit raise.
My phone don spoil since last week” Silas replied, “why are you suchan air head?” Aunty Fanny replied getting irritated, “If you don’t see me, call the police” she hissed slamming the door. She walked back to no 17 and was about to knock on the gate when she realised it was open; she let herself into the compound.
It was a small compound with flowers beautifully planted by the side walks. she studied her surroundings carefully, to make sure there was no danger and went ahead to ring the door bell.
She didn’t get any response after a few seconds so she rang again, this time, she heard a voice that sounded like omnipresent’s shout, “come in, the door is open”She slowly pushed the door open, poppingin her head to see who was inside and wasgreeted by a short man rushing down the stairs to meet her; he wasn’t quite the person she had expected to see, his voice had been so husky and commanding on the phone that she’d imagined he was bigger and much more frightening.
“Welcome to my humble abode” he said taking a bow, “please sit” he said motioning for her to sit down.“Would you care for a drink? I have wine, juice, soft drinks or beer if you prefer” he said with a wide grin,”no thanks,I’m fine” Aunty Fanny replied, “I’d rather we get down to business.”“Okay, if you insist” he replied clapping hishands together,“I guess you must be Omnipresent” Aunty Fanny said, “you guessed right” he replied, “it’s nice to finally put a face to the strangename” she said with a chuckle.
