The Met Gala 2022, America: An Anthology of Fashion, or “Gilded Glamour” saw many A-Listers bring out their best looks. But here are the stars who we thought absolutely nailed the theme!
The 2022 Met Gala returned to the first Monday in May, after the event’s cancelation in 2020 and a delay until September in 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Blake Lively, Billie Eilish, Donatella Versace, Cardi B, Questlove, Precious Lee, Ndey Buri, Lena Waithe, Janelle Monáe, Naomi Campbell, Kerry Washington, Dwyane Wade Gabrielle Union, Winnie Harlow, Quannah Chasinghorse, Jodie Turner-Smith, Paapa Essiedu, Damson Idris, Vanessa Hudgens, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Pete Davidson, Kim Kardashian, Janelle Monaé, Lizzo, and Camila Cabello attend the 2022 Met Gala celebrating “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Blake Lively celebrates New York architecture and artistry with her #MetGala2022 look.
Arriving on the red carpet in a custom #AtelierVersace tulle column dress embroidered with crystal, metallic leather, paillette, and tri-tone copper foil duchesse, an oversized foiled bow at the waist was unraveled to reveal a second look in verdigris—mirroring the transformation of New York’s Statue of Liberty from bronze to oxidized green.
The long duchesse train features a hand painted, foiled, and embroidered celestial map inspired by the 12 zodiac constellations decorating the ceiling of Grand Central Station.
The original shape of the dress draws inspiration from American designer, Charles James, while art deco shapes recall New York landmarks like the Empire State building.

A-listers dressed to the theme of “gilded glamour” sparkled on the red carpet as the annual Met Gala returned to its pre-pandemic schedule in New York Monday.
Co-host Blake Lively wowed in a beaded Versace gown with an oversized satin bow that unfurled to reveal a light blue train while singer Billie Eilish wore an ornate Gucci bodice with green lace sleeves.
Actress Lively, whose husband actor Ryan Reynolds wore a brown velvet tuxedo, described her dress as a “homage” to New York City architecture, including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Grand Central station.
Singer Alicia Keys also paid tribute to Big Apple buildings with a black Ralph Lauren cape that portrayed the city’s skyline in silver beading.
Some 400 famous names from the worlds of music, film, fashion, sports and strutted their stuff at the over-the-top costume parade on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s carpeted steps.
Kim Kardashian stunned the Met Gala in Marilyn Monroe’s dress from her iconic performance “Happy Birthday, president”.
Monroe is said to have paid Jean-Louis $1,440 for the custom piece, which was first sold at auction in 1999 for over a million dollars as part of a sale of her estate with Christie’s. It then sold for a whooping $4.8 million at Julien’s Auctions in 2016, and was later acquired by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum. To this day, it holds the record for being the most expensive dress sold at auction.
“The truth is Kardashian only actually wore the original dress for a matter of minutes. Given the fragile nature and historical value of the dress, she wasn’t about to take any chances. In fact, her whole process of getting dressed reads like a highly sophisticated military operation.
First, she left her hotel in a dressing gown with barricades set up outside to obscure the view of any waiting paparazzi. She then arrived at a small fitting room by the Met Gala steps that was especially organized for the occasion. There a conservationist from Ripley’s was on hand to assist her in white gloves. “I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history.
I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do,” says Kardashian, who changed into a replica of the dress also owned by Ripley’s once she successfully climbed the stairs. “Everything had to be specifically timed and I had to practice walking up the stairs.” – Vogue
