OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 81 – 90

Episode 86

“Ahana…”
“Dad… Ohhh!! Actually, Ansh was working here, so he slept here. I wasn’t able to sleep, so I came to check on him once,” I said quickly. I just don’t want him to know about us.

“Hmmm… Coincidentally, I am also not able to sleep.

“Would you like to take a walk in the garden? The fresh air might bring us some peace,” he asked.
“Yeah, sure. I was thinking the same thing,” she replied.

Her dad and she went downstairs for a stroll in their private garden. As she had mentioned earlier, it was beautiful. It was a full moon night, and the moon was shining brightly overhead.

She could also see some stars in the sky with patches of clouds. Although the rainy season had partly retreated, Mumbai always had certain rainfall. There were still some brief showers. She enjoyed the rain and the feeling of getting wet in it.

However, this time luck wasn’t on her side.

“Ahana… What are you thinking?”
“Nothing, Dad… It’s just so peaceful and calm here.” A cool breeze flowed, caressing her cheeks and blowing her loose strands of hair.

“Yeah, it is. I used to take walks here with Ansh’s mother, Mina,” her dad said.

It was the first time anyone had spoken about her.

She didn’t even know her name except for the huge photo she saw in their living room. Mina was a beauty, and Ansh was a perfect combination of his father and mother.

Ahana and Ansh had never had a serious talk until now. He never spoke about his family, and neither did she ask him. She thought he wasn’t comfortable discussing it.

They never asked about each other’s mothers or grandmothers. It was a sensitive topic that everyone preferred to avoid.

“Ahana… Now that you’re part of our family, you have every right to know about her. I’m pretty sure Ansh didn’t mention anything.”
“No… Like… We never talked about it.”

“Hmm… I assumed so. Please don’t judge him. He’s not what he appears to be,” they continued walking around the garden.

“Ansh has been introverted from the very beginning. Even in school, he only spoke to his close friends.

Ansh never had the privilege of motherly love, and neither did you, but you were luckier than him because you had your mom with you.

Ansh had his granny. He was very close to her, even closer than us. He loved her dearly, and she loved him too.”

Ahana had seen a photo of Ansh’s grandmother next to his mother’s. Both were absolute beauties.

“He used to share everything with her. But Ansh was devastated when she passed away seven years ago. He was only 23 at the time.

That incident affected him a lot, more than us,” her dad became emotional. She could imagine what Ansh had gone through.

Losing her mother as a newborn had left a void, but her mother had filled it. Ansh’s situation was more intense and painful.

“Dad… What happened to her?”
“She had a peaceful death. That day, Ansh had returned from a business trip or, you can say, a seminar.

He was very excited and wanted to sleep beside his granny. He had so many things to tell her.

They spoke throughout the night, and he fell asleep on her lap. But in the morning when he woke up, his granny didn’t wake up.

The doctor said there wasn’t any specific problem with her. She passed away peacefully, sleeping beside the person she loved the most.

The doctor couldn’t give a definite reason, but we were glad she didn’t suffer but saddened by her sudden passing.”

“Oh! Ansh must have been devastated,” Ahana said, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Yes, he was. It took him a long time to recover, and I still doubt if he has fully recovered.

We had to encourage him so that he ignites the passion within her. It was the most challenging situation I have ever faced.

He never reveals what is in his heart to anyone.

But after marrying you, he has a very delightful smile on his face. I am happy for him.”
