OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 91 – 100

Episode 93

I don’t like it myself. I hurriedly went to take a short shower, even though I had already showered before returning to the office. Having another one didn’t bother me.

I was wearing sweatpants and a blue t-shirt. Once I felt satisfied and refreshed, I returned to the room and dimmed the lights.

Ahana remained as I had left her. She looked incredibly adorable while sleeping. I gently held her by her shoulders, and she stirred as soon as I touched her.

“Ansh…”
Was she awake? I don’t believe so.
“Didn’t I ask you to sleep?” I said, helping her adjust in bed. Her eyes were still closed.

“Ansh… You’re so late. You should at least look at the time. You knew I was alone, right?”

Was she intoxicated? No, it’s not possible. She never speaks like that.

“How do you know it’s me?” I asked, savoring the moment. I was enjoying myself.

Her hand now rested around my waist, and mine around her. Her scent intoxicated me.

“Come on… I recognize your scent, Ansh,” she whispered in my ear. Seriously, she knew it. Wow! Isn’t it even better?

You shouldn’t keep me waiting late at night. Didn’t the doctor tell you this? And you shouldn’t keep our baby waiting either…”

The last line sent chills down my spine. I know I am irresponsible, Ahana.
“Hey! I’m sorry… I promise I’ll come home early. Now, let’s sleep…”

But I don’t think she heard it. She had already fallen into a deep slumber.

I tucked her in properly and covered her with the blanket using my free hand. One hand held Ahana, and likewise, her other hand held onto me. I don’t think she noticed.

But then, she realized it. She withdrew her hand. Suddenly, I felt a pang of sadness, missing her gentle touch.
She said she misses me, right? Maybe indirectly, but she said it.

I quickly slid beside her on the bed. She shifted a bit and drew closer to me.

I reciprocated, and then I experienced the peaceful sleep I had missed for months. In each other’s embrace, we found solace.

At least I did. I wholeheartedly agree that I can’t find peace without her by my side.

AHANA’S POV

I woke up with a pair of strong arms around me. I realized they were Ansh’s.

I recognized his scent immediately. His head was nestled in the crook of my neck. I hadn’t realized when he returned last night; I was too sleepy.

All I remembered was that I was reading a novel and watching TV, leaning against the wall.

Then, I must have fallen asleep, and Ansh must have put me in bed and slept beside me.

I gently removed his hand from my stomach. He looked adorable with his hand resting on my belly. It felt nice.

I was experiencing morning sickness again. I felt nauseous and thought I might vomit. It was getting worse as the days went by.

It would be better if I stayed home. Ansh suggested that I could work from home, and it would be convenient.

After taking a shower, I returned to see that Ansh was already dressed for the office.

I was wearing a simple knee-length floral print dress that was loose and comfortable, not putting any pressure on my stomach.

I gave him a surprised look. Anyway, Ansh always looked amazing, even in the morning. He wore a light yellow shirt with black trousers and a blazer.

I wondered if he went shopping alone. I rarely saw him in jeans, except for his sweatpants, which he wore at night.

“What? Should I stay home to keep you entertained?” He said while fixing his hair.

I wished he would, but why would he? He had a lot of work to do besides entertaining me.

“Whatever… But aren’t you leaving a bit early today?” I asked.

“It’s already 9, dear. I think I’m running late,” he said, putting on his shoes.

“But you came home late last night. I don’t even know when you arrived. I think I fell asleep.”

“Hmmm… Okay then, I’ll leave. Bye,” he said and left. A strange emptiness remained. If only he had stayed a bit longer.

But work was equally important.
I went downstairs, and Dad and Grandad were already sitting at the dining table. Ansh wasn’t there; I assumed he had already left.
“Morning, Ahana,” Dad said cheerfully.

“Morning… Ansh didn’t even have his breakfast?” I said, surprised to see his untouched plate on the table.

“Hmmm… He said he had a meeting. And he also said that you’re on a short vacation and not working. So… You’re hanging out with us, right? Trust me, we won’t bore you,” Dad said, smiling.
He was a really good man.
I laughed.

“Yeah, thanks… But I insist on working. I’m just worried that he’ll overwork himself,” I said, sitting at the table and taking Ansh’s plate.

“I know, but it’s important for you to rest. The doctor said so, and your health is important. So, call your friends here. We don’t mind, Ahana,” Grandad said.

Wasn’t he sweet too? I was really lucky to have such good in-laws.

Nowadays, not many people have in-laws like them.
“Dad, can I ask you for a favor?” I said.

“Anything, dear…”
“If you can look after the business for a while, it could help Ansh. I know I might be asking too much. You’re retired, and it’s your time to enjoy, but Ansh won’t have time for himself,” I explained.

“Ahana… Come on… Just this morning, I told him that I would accompany him if he has a heavy workload. But you know how stubborn he is.

He has strictly prohibited me and Dad from working. He said that if we accompany him, then who will be with you?”

” Hmmm….” I nodded, eating my piece of bread.
He cared.

“So, when is your next appointment?” Grandad asked.

“Next week. Jaai said he’ll come with me. I have asked him to look into my work as I’ll work from home now.”

“Okay… If you need anything, we are around. Trust me, Ahana, Ansh really cares for you. And I am sure he will take out not a little but a lot of time for you.” Dad winked.

I nodded and smiled. Dad and his teasing behavior.

I knew it. But the problem was that why doesn’t he accept it? I am pretty sure that in the few days, I’ll have back that rude Ansh.

After breakfast, I went to my room. I still felt a bit weak. My cell was ringing somewhere.
“Ma… How are you?” I asked. I was speaking to her after a long time.

“I am good. Ansh called me some time ago. He said that you’ll be home now.”

Oh! Man… What is he up to? Why is he telling this to everyone?
“Aha… He cares for you…”
Yeah!! I know… Even I care for him. But sometimes caring isn’t enough.

Ansh doesn’t tell that, but I know somewhere deep down he cares.

“I am accompanying you to your next meet with the doctor. Jaai is there, right?”

“Yeah…..”
After a brief talk with Ma, I felt good. Time was crucial, and I need to be careful.
