It is more than 8 months to reveal Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S22 series and we are getting the fan made renders already.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra render images look sick and stunning as it cuts out the typical normal looking phone designs these days. After looking at the phone renders, we can see the gorgeous rear camera setup at the back. While the camera position has not shifted and set as the S21 Ultra, the camera module is totally changed.

Now coming to the overall design, the render shows more unified and refined design language. The bezels around the display are cut to the corners. That means, there are more display to play with, while the bezel has been trimmed down. We can also spot a Infinity-O type cut out hole punch front camera module, confirming the reports that the S22 series will not feature the underdeveloped under-display camera technology. The S22 Ultra will continue to have the S pen compatibility.

Following confirmation that Apple significantly increased battery capacities across the iPhone 13 lineup, historically reliable Samsung site GalaxyClub has revealed that the Galaxy S22 will go in the opposite direction and get a potentially damaging battery downgrade.

GalaxyClub states it has “concrete details” that the Galaxy S22 will use a battery with the model code “EB-BS901ABY” which has a rated capacity of just 3590 mAh. This is a circa 10% reduction compared to the 3880 mAh rated battery of the Galaxy S21.

Note, Samsung advertises the typical capacity of the Galaxy S21 as 4000 mAh, based on this metric the Galaxy S21 battery will be approximately 3700 mAh.

And the signs are not good for the rest of the Galaxy S22 line up, either. GalaxyClub notes that the Galaxy S22+ will have a 4500 mAh battery (Galaxy S21+ 4800 mAh) while the Galaxy S22 Ultra will at least match the 5000 mAh battery capacity of its predecessor.

GalaxyClub does say that Samsung hopes to compensate for these reductions by optimising other areas of the Galaxy S22 line, including a new Eco2 OLED display which debuted in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and promised savings of up to 25% versus the Fold 2.

Samsung is also expected to debut its hotly anticipated AMD GPU in the new range though, giving its ballistic performance, that doesn’t appear an obvious point for energy efficiency.

Samsung fans have lamented the battery life of Galaxy smartphones ever since Samsung stopped making removable batteries.

While Samsung used to mock iPhone battery life and call iPhone owners “Wall Huggers”, it looks like the tables have now turned.
