Episode 5
“I thought he loved me, I thought he loved me,” Ella was crying profusely on her way home.
She was above 30, successful and beautiful, but had no suitor. When she thought he had seen someone, Nneka had gone to scatter all the hope.
“But, I care for Chris, why did he betray me? Why was he showing that he loved when he was keeping an affair with Nneka? Maybe I will never marry, men are unfaithful.”
When Ella entered her room, the crying continued even more.
Pastor D was still with Nneka in the rooming demanding to know what was going on, “Sister, I said tell me what just happened?”
Nneka got angry and replied, “Nothing, I brought you delicious food, you ate and enjoyed it and that old wtch…abi, Ella is angry….”
“Excuse me, when did you brought…sorry, when did bring me food.”
Nneka laughed at Pastor D’s blunder.
“Sorry, it’s not funny, Sister,” Pastor D hiding his laughter amidst the confusion.
At that instance, Chris came out of the room with his bag looking for Ella. He didn’t notice that it was Nneka standing, he ran to her and said, “Auntie, help me do my belt.”
Nneka was so happy that Chris came to her, she bent low touching Chris’ waist.
When Chris noticed it was not Ella, he was scared, he never knew Nneka was in the room. The boy ran to his Dad, “Where is Auntie, Daddy?’ He said.
“She has gone home,” Pastor D said trying to hide his confusion.
Chris ran out of the house heading to Ella’s house. Nneka ran outside to call him, but the poor wouldn’t wait.
Nneka said to herself silently, “Go, go, go to that old wtch, you poor boy who doesn’t know anything. May she not do what she did to your mother?”
Nneka came back inside to meet Pastor D.
“Please, you may take your leave,” Pastor D said trying to leave the sitting room.
“But why? What have I done? Why? Am I not beautiful enough? What do you like about Ella? I have them too,” Nneka said kneeling.
“Excuse me, I don’t understand what you are saying,” Pastor D said.
Nneka moved close trying to hold his leg.
“Please, enough,” Pastor D.
Nneka got angry, “But are you aware that Ella has fibroid and that she can’t give birth? You need a fruitful lady like me.”
Pastor D entered the room, leaving Nneka in the sitting room. He sat on the bed putting his two hands on his head.
Then he heard the front door being locked and the sound of footsteps coming towards his room.
Suddenly, the picture of Delilah he watched in one Bible movie came to his mind. As if pushed by a force, he sprang up and quickly moved to the door, closing and locking it before Nneka could grab it.
Then from the inside, he looked through the door lens and saw that Nneka was nked.
He shouted from the room, ” Devil, I rebuke you, in the name of Jesus, you daughter of Jezebel, be scattered by fire!
You are scattered by fire!”
Pastor D started screaming in fear and surprise.
But Nneka refused to go back, she stood trying to open the door.
“I will shout if you don’t come out and let’s talk gently,” Nneka warned.
“You are scattered by fire in Jesus’ name.
If you don’t dress up and leave that place, I will call…”
Before Pastor D could finish the statement, Nneka picked it up. “Oya, call, you will see that you will be the one in trouble, call, I said call!”
Pastor D remained quiet for some seconds and started begging, “Please, don’t ruin my life, I won’t call,” he changes his tune and started crying.
“Come out gently, don’t be afraid,” Nneka said gently.
Then Pastor D prayed silently, “Lord, please, rescue me!”
Suddenly, it was like his brain was opened, he said authoritatively, “Leave this place now or I will call.”
“Hahaha, see you, I said call, call, you will ruin your ministry forever, you will be the one in trouble,” Nneka warned again, laughing hysterically as though possessed.
Pastor D laughed too and said, “Hahaha, it seems you are not thinking well? You are outside nked and I am inside dressed, we will see who is in trouble.”
This statement was like a bvllet on Nneka, it struck her, it dawn on her that she would be in trouble. She rushed to the sitting room, dressed and ran out.
When Pastor D heard the door open and close, he was glad but also scared. He opened his wardrobe and wore three boxers, two nickers and a pair of trousers. He was doing this praying.
He then put on about two singlets, two turtleneck clothes and a suit jacket. He held a pair of shoes and walked out of the room looking in every direction.
When he got to the sitting room, he waited and looked round to ensure Nneka wasn’t there, and then he ran out of the house.
When he got to the veranda, he waited and bent to the floor trying to put on his shoes. Suddenly, he heard a sound on the roof, some children were playing football on the estate, it was the ball that landed on the roof, but it scared him.
A boy came to pick the ball. He greeted Pastor D who barely answered him.
He picked the ball and ran to his mates and they all came and spied at Pastor D from behind. The children started laughing. Pastor D saw them laughing, he felt ashamed and hissed.
One of the boys said, “E be like say pastor don kolo?” They all laughed and continued playing their ball.
Not up to sixty seconds, the boy who spoke caught an injury and was in pain.
They all shouted again when the boy got the injury.
The noise scared Pastor D again, he left and was trying to run passing the football field, but the loose shoes wouldn’t allow him. He looked really funny in those many clothes.
The boys saw him again, it was funny but seeing the injured guy in pain, they held their laughter this time
