Nneka was running away from the security man chasing him.

She thought she could escape but nemesis was faster. You would think she was a madwoman.

She escaped the church premises and was on the street, still running.

When the security man saw that, he stopped chasing and was jogging back to the church.

The other lady caught was the unlucky one who would suffer, he thought.

But Nneka was still running thinking she was being chased. There were many cars parked on both sides of the street, this obstructed her view, she ran across the street.

“Gbuaaa!” She was hit.

She ran into a bike on speed, she was scattered on the street, her shoes flew to the air, her bag flew up and landed in the gutter.

She screamed in fear and pain!

The Okada man didn’t even wait to check, he ‘japa’.

Another car was coming from the opposite, speeding. Nneka shouted Jesus.
The car could have run over Nneka if not for God’s mercy.

The security man heard the noise and returned to the scene. Because of fear, Nneka stood to run again but her eyes rotated, she fell.

The security man moved closer and carried her from the street, but she thought he wanted to arrest her, she attempted to run again, this time, she didn’t only fall but also fainted yakata. She was scattered on the street.

People were gathered and they poured water on her. When she regained consciousness and saw the security man, she started begging, “Please, help me, please, I don’t want to die, please.”

The man didn’t even know what to do but she was totally helpless.

Back in the church, the wedding was over. The couples had danced out of the church and their cars were moving out;/the first car was out heading for the reception.

The other lady was locked inside the church gate man’s room.

When they narrated the incident to Ella’s father, he didn’t understand because he didn’t even know who Nneka was.

They were trying to avoid a scene, the couples were in the car, the story was related to them. Ella was still shocked and couldn’t say a word.

Pastor D managed to talk, “Allow the girl to go, today is our day of joy, please. Leave them all to go.”

Ella still couldn’t utter a word but tears were rolling down her cheeks. They went to the reception. The day was almost spoilt, but Ella coming from the car at the reception camouflaged and faked a smile.

The reception was a big event with dignitaries and moguls in attendance. The first gift drove Ella to tears. Her father gave her a brand new Jeep. Another friend of his father gave her a car. They received heavy cheques among other items.

Ella was crying the more, people thought she was emotional because of the gifts, but her heart was heavy for what happened in the church.

The wedding was over.

The honeymoon didn’t start well, the shock of what happened was still in her body.

“Dear, we are done with that church!” Ella said frankly. “Why was Nneka bent on destroying me?” She added.

“It’s over now, we are together,” Pastor D said, drawing her close, “we are hated and rejected, we have to move forward in this pain and hurt.”

The church lost two vibrant people to jealousy. Though some youth wanted them, especially, Pastor D’s ‘fire fire’ ministration.

Their honeymoon was not sweet as expected: tears, pain, hurt, emotion.

They managed and it was over. They were back home to begin their family life.

They had high expectations for a glorious family but the family didn’t appear sweet. Ella was still full of hatred, for Nneka especially. They heard that Nneka had been bedridden for days after the incident.

Pastor D suggested, “Should we visit Nneka?”

“I don’t want to see that witch called Nneka!” Ella replied angrily.

“Okay, let’s forget about her. But, their new pastor is even worse. We served in the church with all our strength, but they repaid us with evil. God will judge. He didn’t even send us wedding greetings ”

The pain of the new couples developed into hatred and it affected their happiness.

For months, Pastor D couldn’t get a new church to pastor. In all the interviews he attended, none was positive. He started feeling like a figurehead in the family. Though Money wasn’t their problem, Ella had enough money, but Pastor wasn’t happy being fed by his wife.

After three months, they had no specific church and Ella didn’t conceive either. It seemed they had not really been enjoying the marriage. Because of this, they had to send Chris to a boarding school.

The family was not as sweet as expected. They have lost all their friends from the other church and are sceptical to trust anyone.

Ella didn’t want to see Nneka. Pastor D also had a reserved hatred for the church especially, the pastor.

Things fell apart, Ella was unhappy, she couldn’t let go of the past. She didn’t conceive either…

Pastor D was getting tired. Ella appeared to be proud to him. They started to have arguments everywhen.

There was a day Pastor D said, ” I feel we should join The Cross Orthodox church? After all, they were kind enough to allow our marriage?”

Ella: “No, no, what are we going to be doing? The church is old, I was born there, I can’t join. They have issues too.”

Pastor D, “But I feel God may have work for us there. We have to move on, we can’t get a perfect place.”

Ella: Are you saying you want to join because they have money?

Pastor D got angry, “Are you saying, I want to join The Cross Orthodox church because of money?”

It was a heated argument that night and pastor D went to sleep in the other room.

He still couldn’t sleep so he started arranging Chris’ clothes. Suddenly, he stumbled on one of Chris’ shorts, it appeared to have been left for a long time.

When he checked it, he found a letter. That was the old letter written by Nneka given to Chris that night.

In curiosity, he quickly unwrapped it. He only read the first paragraph when he burst into tears…
