SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS IGNORED BY GOVERNMENT : Alan Jones
It is a bad day for the bedwetters.
In fact, the clothes lines of the nation must be covered in soiled laundry because, until now, the bedwetters have run the show.
Time to change the sheets because we learn today what only a handful of politicians, and Perrottet was one of them, I can’t think of others, had argued; and that is that this Omicron variant, highly transmissible but far less toxic than those before it, will eventually run out of puff.
Now the World Health Organisation, normally conservative when pronouncing on the virus, is predicting the end of the pandemic.
Even the NSW Chief Health Officer, Kerry Chant, says there is a cause for optimism and the Omicron wave is subsiding.
The 14-day average of cases is declining in Victoria; and, yet again, we have the urging by people like Dr Chant what I was arguing months ago, simply, we are going to have to learn to live with the virus.
Daniel Andrews has said the 7-day daily average in Victoria has almost halved in a week and intensive care numbers are down, hospital admissions have continued to fall.
What now can the alarmists cling to?
Along with this news, there is talk of “herd immunity”, but the very mention of that in 2020 had individuals being put in the stocks.
There are some legitimately calling for a Royal Commission into the way the coronavirus response has been handled.
Take your mind back to 2020 when alarmism and hysteria overtook the nation.
Virtually, the whole economy was shut down and the cost has sent national debt spiralling into trillions of dollars.
We will not be paying that off. Our grandchildren will. What a disgraceful legacy, because from the Bureau of Statistics figures for 2020, COVID-19 was the 38th most significant cause of death.
The 38th, in 2020.
The median age of those who died was 86; and official government figures indicate that there was a decrease in mortality in 2020.
898 people died from coronavirus, but almost 500 people die every day in Australia.
Is anyone to be answerable for the price, economically, socially and psychologically, the nation has paid.
The top five causes of death were heart disease, dementia, cerebro vascular disease, lung cancer, and chronic lower respiratory disease like emphysema.
Yet even now, because of Omicron, many people suffering from these killer diseases are not being treated as the bias and hysteria still remain with coronavirus.
Sensibly, governments have given up the notion of lockdowns; but the trouble is, because emotion and alarmism have overtaken reality, we’ve had self-imposed lockdowns.
People have not gone out; they have not shopped; they have abandoned hospitality; they have cancelled travel and holidays.
The result is that business, especially small business, is in a mess and governments do not want to admit it.
With a federal election looming, all we hear is talk about economic recovery. It is a myth and, as you know, walk around the big cities and they are like morgues.
Government must introduce a business HECS.
Just as we do with university students, give them the money to get a degree and pay it back later.
It is all too simple for government to understand.
Small business, without jumping through a million hoops, should be treated accordingly.
The modelling has already been done by Professor Bruce Chapman at the ANU.
If governments, state and federal, continue to ignore the plight of small business and fail to come to their aid, the political consequences will be savage.
I repeat, a business HECS is no cost to government. The money is advanced according to need, to keep business going, at a nominal interest rate; but given that the cost of money to government is almost nothing, government should use its common sense, get the left-wing bureaucrats out of the way and get the engine of economic growth, small business, started again.
My final comment is this.
As I have said a million times, this should never have been.
It has only come to pass because the bedwetters have been in charge.
