CHAPTER 47
Astrid’s eyes met Sapphire’s, and he could see the hurt and anger in her gaze.
He quickly released his hands from Zara’s hold, taking a step back. Zara’s face fell, her lips pouting in disappointment.
“Why can’t I hold you?” she asked, her voice laced with petulance.
Astrid’s expression was firm. “It’s enough, you can go.”
Zara’s eyes narrowed, her arms crossing under her breasts. “But I want to spend more time with you,” she whined, her voice grating on Astrid’s nerves.
Astrid’s patience wore thin. “I need to be somewhere,” he said curtly.
He didn’t hesitate, turning on his heel and walking away.
Zara’s eyes followed him “are you leaving me” her face twisted in a scowl.
“He really left me here,” she thought, her mind seething with resentment.
“No worries, he’ll finally succumb,” she muttered to herself, a cold smile spreading across her face.
With a flick of her hair, Zara turned and strode away

Esmeralda walked alongside Sage, her feet carrying her towards Queen Nana’s chamber.
“My lady” Sage called.
“What is it, sage” Esmeralda replied turning to her.
“Can I ask a question” She muttered and Esmeralda raised a brow.
“What…..” The corridors seemed to stretch on forever, the walls closing in on Esmeralda with each step. She felt a sudden wave of dizziness wash over her, her vision blurring at the edges.
“Sage…” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
But before she could take another step, her legs gave out from under her. She felt herself falling, her arms flailing wildly as she tried to regain her balance.
A strong hand caught her before she could fall, her eyes fluttered open to see Caeser.
“Someone call the physician!” Sage screamed, her voice echoing through the corridor.
Caeser scooped Esmeralda up in his arms, as he rushed her back to her chamber. Sage followed close behind, her face pale with worry.

ESMERALDA’S CHAMBER
Queen Nana entered her chamber and rushed to Esmeralda who was awake already.
“Are you alright” she asked, worries filled in her voice and Esmeralda nodded weakly.
“Have you found out what’s exactly wrong with her” She asked the physician.
“Yes, she’s pregnant” he dropped the bombshell and Queen Nana eyes widened “she is carrying a child” The physician added.
“Oh my God, really!!” She exclaimed turning to Esmeralda who was smiling continuously.
“Yes, Mother”
“I knew it would work”
Just then, Emperor Augustus entered the suite, his face held no expression as he heard the news.
“I’ll excuse you two” Queen Nana muttered and left the suite.
“Is this part of your plan” he suddenly asked and she squeezed her face.
“What plan, I didn’t make any plan” her smile fell off her face.
“You are getting older, besides getting pregnant isn’t a big deal and I’m desperate for it and I’m sure you also need an heir” she explained.
“I didn’t ask you to provide one for me” he blurted and her jaw dropped. He wasn’t expecting him to be this cruel.
Tears spring from her eyes slowly “are you now telling me to abort it” she asked.
“That not what I mean” he shook his head.
“Then why are you not happy about it” she muttered as tears fell from her eyes repeatedly and he sighed.
“Esm…….”
“You’ve driven your attention away from me all this while, I never slept in your chamber not even once but that slave did, instead of you to punish her…you pleasure her instead, Why why……why do you chose her over me ??” She rushed at once.
Emperor Augustus twitched his lips and moved closer to her, then hugged her.
She buried her face into his shoulders crying profusely.
“You are staying here with me right” she asked.
“I need to…..”
“You want to leave again……” She flared up.
“No, I want to attend to something” He mumbled and she looked away.
“Fine” she said, calmly.
