Chapter Thirty Three

Erica quickly answered the call and placed the phone on her ear.
“Good morning sir”

“Oh Erica! Where are you?” He sounded serious.

“At.. at home sir?” She replied.

“Come to the company immediately! Like… Now!” He yelled.

“Yes sir…” She quickly said and threw the phone on the bed.

“What happened?”

“I have no idea, he wants me to come to the company immediately and he sounded so serious” she said and brushed her hair quickly.
She grabbed her phone and bag and stared at the mirror again.

“Is this dress okay?” She asked Ava. She was putting on a very beautiful short gown and her hair, falling on her shoulders.

“It’s nice. At least, it makes you look sxy but one thing is remaining” Ava winked and sprayed some perfume on her body.
“You need to smell nice. You are gonna receive a lot of hugs today”

“I bet…” She replied.
Erica rolled her eyes and quickly shove her friend aside and ran out of the room. She had been enjoying free rides from her boss these few days now she has to hire a cab.

Few minutes later, Erica arrived at the company. She jumped out of the car forgetting to pay.

“Ma’am?” The cab driver called her back.
She quickly turned and gave him a thousand dollar.

“Keep the change..” she said and ran into the company.

A smile crept on his face. It was his lucky day already.

Erica didn’t find the gate keeper outside the company.

“Weird.. where are they?” She murmured and pushed the door open.

Boom!!!
She heard a little blast.

“Happy birthday!!!”
Erica was scared for some seconds before seeing that it was a surprise.
She closed her mouth in shock. She never expected any of this.
A wow escaped her lips when she found a lot of cakes on the table.

She couldn’t even count them. She saw Calvin walking towards him, she could tell from him multi color suit.
She saw Kelvin standing behind wearing a simple expression.

“Happy birthday once again” he said and hugged her.
Erica didn’t expect it. She slowly raised her hands and also hugged him too.

“You smell nice… What’s the brand of your perfume?” He asked as they disengaged.

“Uh…” She tried to remember. She wasn’t a fan of perfume so she doesn’t remember.

“Uh?” He replied.

“Can’t remember” she smiled.

“Of course it’s your birthday, a lot of things are stuck in your head”

“Happy birthday Erica. Wish you all the best” the receptionist walked to her with a present.
Erica took it with a smiley face.

“Thank you so much” she replied and walked to where her presents are kept.

“How on Earth do y’all know it’s my birthday?” She asked.

“Well, everyone has to know. It’s a tradition in the company. Celebrate together” Calvin replied.

“Oh, I see” she murmured.
“Thank you so much. I never expected this at all. I’m so happy”

“Yay!!! It’s party time!” One of them yelled and they started hearing some music from nowhere.

“I hope you brought your dancing shoes” Calvin whispered.

“Oh, I don’t dance”

“Then what do you do in clubs?”

“I worked there”

“Nice…” He said and went to hang with some other people.

Erica went to inspect her gifts. She saw some shoes, gift bags, clothes, flowers and a lot more.

“I should probably call Ava” she murmured and started dialing Ava’s number.

Kelvin saw that was alone. He decided to go wish her again. As he walked pass the table where her gifts and cake was, he heard some beeping.
“Where’s that coming from?” He murmured and checked round the table but didn’t find anything.
The beeping got louder. He was the only one that could hear it because he was close to the table, together with… Erica. She was trying to call Ava.

He started looking inside the boxes, thinking it was one of the watches they got her as a gift.

He found a sealed bag instead and raised it. It was quite heavy. He drew it closer to his ear and noticed that it wasn’t a watch.

“What else could be inside the… Sht!!” He yelled and threw the bag at the door but the glass door was more stronger.
The b®mb hit the glass and fell on the floor.

The music stopped immediately as everyone diverted their gaze to Kelvin as he ran towards Erica. He jumped on her and they both fell on the floor.

“What the…” Before she could finish, a loud blast followed.

Erica couldn’t hear anything. She was in the middle of her gifts and the door before Kelvin jumped on her. The others were behind the table.

“Erica!” Calvin yelled as he ran towards the door. There was smoke everywhere from the blast.

“Kelvin? Someone call the ambulance!!” Calvin yelled. He found them lying unconsciously on the floor.

“Erica, Kelvin.. please wake up!!!” He yelled again, touching their faces. But they didn’t respond. Their eyes were still shut.

Calvin sat with Ava outside the theater. They were waiting for the doctor’s final say.

“Why are they going after her lives? What the heck are they gonna gain?!!” Ava yelled. She had cried enough, even Calvin tried to calm her down.

“This has gotten too far!” Calvin added.

Suddenly, the light turned from red to green. They both sprung up when they saw the doctor walking out of the theater.

“How’s she? How’s Erica?” Ava questioned.

“What of my brother?” Calvin asked.

The doctor sighed and slipped his stethoscope into his coat.

“Your brother is fine. He just sustained some minor injuries. He will be fine”

“So… What about Erica?”

“She..”

“She what? Can’t you speak up! Cat got your tongue!!” Ava yelled.

“She isn’t responding to the medical care we are giving her. We managed to remove some of the glass that pierced her skin. She also dislocated her ankle, due to the way she fell” he said.

Ava started laughing. She didn’t want to believe what he just said. She walked back to the bench and sat quietly.

“Doctor, you have to keep doing all you can to take care of her. Nothing.. I repeat.. nothing must happen to her” Calvin said with a serious voice.

“Yes master… Right this way to see your brother” he said and led Calvin to his brother’s room.

He turned and saw Ava still shocked with what she heard.
He turned his head and continued walking.

After taking some few walks he got to his brother’s room and flung it open. He saw Kelvin buttoning his shirt. Some bandage was in his palm.

“Kelvin? Where are you headed to? You are not well”

“As long as I’m standing, I’m fine” he replied and grabbed his jacket.

The doctor shook his hand.
“What about the drip? You have to take about two pint because you lost a lot of bI.ood” the doctor said.

“Does it have to be injected through my veins? Why can’t I just drink it since it’s going into my body?” He rolled his eyes.

Even the doctor started to imagine what he just said. He was right, why inject?
He quickly snapped out his thoughts and faces Kelvin.

“You have to take some drugs then and also have a lot of rest” he added.

“Sure, let me have them” he said and sat on the bed, waiting for him to be back.

“Thanks for saving my assistant” he said.

Kelvin was also looking for a way to ask about her.
“How’s she?” He asked.

“Not good…” He replied softly. Kelvin quickly diverted his gave to his brother.
He tried not to look too interested.

“What happened?”

“I can’t even explain it. She…” His phone call interrupted him.

“Excuse me..” he said and sprung up from the bed.

“Yeah, have the engineer arrived?” He asked.
“Put him on the phone”

“Hello Paul.. it’s nice to talk to you again”

“And you too sir” Paul replied.

“So, how many days will it take to fix the damages?”

“A week” he replied.

“I want it lesser than that. It’s a very busy company, we can’t just be off for seven days. Four days or less”

“We’ll try our best sir”

“Get to work immediately” he added. Paul handed the phone back to the MD.

“Sir!”

“Tell everyone to be off work for the meantime, they’ll be told when to resume”

“Yes sir” he said.

Calvin disconnected the call and went through his phone for some seconds.
“It’s all over the news already. A bomb blast in one of Greg’s company. Weird caption!” He murmured.

“Did anyone get injured apart from us?” Kelvin asked.

“Yeah, but they were just scratches and bruises. They were treated at the spot” he replied.

“Oh, that’s good” he replied.

The doctor walked in with the drugs and handed it over to Kelvin.
“The subscription is in the bag. Please take them carefully” he said.

“Thank you. I’ll see at home bro” he said and left.
He wished he could see Erica before leaving but no, he can’t let his guard down.

Calvin went back to where Ava was. She was trying to call George. She hasn’t heard from him since he left.

“What are you doing?” He asked Ava.

“Trying to reach George. But his… Hello!” She quickly answered when she heard his voice.

“Is Erica okay? Was she in the company when the b®mb explode?”

“Yes, she was. And I think it’s the culprit again” Ava broke into tears.

“We are still having a hard time finding my grandparents house. But I’ll be back as soon as possible. Can I talk to Erica?” He said.

“I wish it’s possible. She isn’t responding to the treatment at all. She is badly wounded and with a broken ankle”

“What?!! Why didn’t you tell me at first? I’m on my way there right now!” He said and disconnected the call.
