Chapter Thirty Seven

Barbie got frightened when she heard her brother’s voice. She turned from the office and walked towards Erica.

“I thought you were in there” she said.

“Stay out of there” he said and walked into the office even without glaring at Erica.

Barbie rolled her eyes.
“Always rude…” She murmured.

Erica stared at Barbie.
“I’m thirsty” she said.

“Oh, I’ll get you a glass of water. I’ll be right back” she said and left.

Erica rolled herself into Kelvin’s office.

“I said stay out of my office”Kelvin said before turning. He saw that it was Erica.

“Why are you here?” He asked in a cold voice.

“Thank you for saving me”

“Is that all?” He asked.

She cleared her throat again before opening her mouth to speak.
“When I was unconscious… Did you visit me at the hospital?” She asked.

“Why should I? I’m not your boss” he said without sparing her a glance.

“I see. Then why did you save me when you aren’t my boss?” She asked with a little anger in her voice. She was upset with his reply.

“Erica, if you don’t have anything to say to me. Please leave, I have a lot of work to do” he said.

“Why are you suddenly being harsh? You said you wanted to be nice and now…”

“That was then. I don’t want to be nice, it’s unlike me. Just leave!” He said again in that cold voice.

Erica sighed and rode herself out of his office.
She was a little bit hurt. This was the second time he would tell at her.

Kelvin watched as she left his office. He exhaled deeply and threw himself to his chair. He wished he didn’t say that but that was the only way to get Erica away from him and also get away from Erica.
He was happy when he heard that she was in the mansion. When he got the chance to see her….

“Why are you helping me?” He heard Erica’s voice. She was asking his brother, Calvin.

“Let me just say I have feelings for you” he heard his brother’s reply.

There was silent for some seconds. He knew then wasn’t the right moment for him to see Erica. He stepped back and walked away.

He leaned his head on his hand, thinking about his brother’s reply to Erica’s little question.
He never knew his brother had feelings for Erica, he wouldn’t have even gotten close to her.

He shook the thought off his head and gets back to work.

As Tee helped Erica up the stairs, Calvin stopped him.
“I’m getting some alerts from the card… Did you..”

“Ava is using it” she quickly replied.

“Oh, thought it was stolen” he smirked.

She secretly rolled her eyes and followed Tee into her room.

Kylie was on her bed, talking to Ava. It was a video call.

“Oh Erica, I wished you left with me. The mall had some nice ¢razy outfit today” Ava said, showing Erica some of the dresses.

“Too bad I don’t wear ¢razy outfits” Erica said, adjusting her hair.

“Very funny. Are you missing me?” She asked and turned the phone to her face.

“Yeah, I am. Here’s a little boring and the bodyguards scare me with their expression” Erica replied and rolled her eyes.

“I miss you too. Your brother is working overtime to cover up for the days he missed at work. He barely talk to me”

“Well, you two have fun while alone” she winked at him.

“Of course sis. You too have a good time with the crazy twin”

“Speaking of which… Kelvin is suddenly acting weird towards me”

“How?” She asked.

Erica stood up from the bed and hopped towards the balcony. She opened the door and leaned on the rails.

“He’s acting harsh and a little stubborn” Erica said. She enjoyed the way the cool breeze pierced through her skin.

“Maybe he’s tired or because of what happened to the company. He’ll change soon”

“Well, I don’t care. If he wants to act that way, I’ll also do the same” Erica tried to act stubborn.

Ava gave a mocking laugh.
“You are too good to be bad” she said.

“Well, that was then. This is now, people change”

“You know you don’t have to do that. You just ask him what’s going on” she said.

“Excuse me Ava, I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Someone’s at the door” she said.

“Sure. Good night” Ava disconnected the call.

Erica hopped back to the door and opened it.
She saw Tee at the door, he was with some of the gifts that she got yesterday.

“Hello ma’am, Master asked me to bring this to you” he said.

“Sure..bring them inside” she said and pushed the door open for her.
He walked in with the gifts and placed them on the bed. Some maids followed behind with some of the gifts.

Erica shot her eyes wide open, she remembered that the gifts weren’t this much.

“I had more surprises for you but fate didn’t let it happen”
She turned when she heard Calvin’s voice.

“It wasn’t necessary” she said.

He leaned towards her and grabbed her hand.
“A little privacy!” He said. The maids and the bodyguards ran out of the room and closed the door behind.

Erica smirked and lowered her gaze.

“Are you blushing?” He asked.

“No, I’m smirking” she replied.

“Erica I know I just know you for some days”

“Let me guess you want to ask me out?” She furrowed her eyebrows.

Calvin looked a little surprised. He coughed out some laugh and looked away from her.

“Did you see that coming? Like, did you dream about me asking you out”

Erica scoffed.
“No, I’m a good guesser” she replied proudly.

“If you are a really good guesser, then guess what is in my hand?” He asked. He hid something in his hand, behind his back.

“A necklace” she said.

He scoffed again and moved back.
“How on earth are you guessing that?” He asked.

“Well normally, guys give necklace as gifts more” she smirked.

“You are really good” he said and brought out the necklace from the red box.

Calvin walked closer to her and shoved her hair to her front, staring at her bare neck.
He wore the necklace round her neck and slowly touched it.

“It’s really beautiful” Erica murmured as she touched the necklace.

Calvin turned and stood in front of her.
“It suits you well. I’m glad you like it”

“I love it. It’s really beautiful” she said again and stared at her.

The room was silent for some seconds till Calvin broke it.

“You.. you can think about what I said. You have all the time in the world. I will wait for you Erica”

She lowered her gaze and nodded shyly.
“Sure I would” she said.

“Good night” he said and kssed her forehead. Erica couldn’t feel herself after he kssed her forehead.

“Good night” she whispered and watched as he left.

She closed the door behind and hopped to the bed.
Her hands were still on the necklace as she thought about what Calvin said to her.
Her intention was never to make her boss fall for her maybe it was her luck.

She quit touching her necklace and started going through her gifts.

She saw another small bag with a paper inside.

“Is this a birthday card? From who?” She murmured and opened it.

“If you reading this, that means you are still alive Erica Bruno. You just wait till I get rid of everyone around you and finally get to you. I’m watching you very closely. Watch out!!” She read slowly. The paper fell from her hand because of the shock.

“Who wants me dead so badly?” She murmured as hot tears rolled down her eyes.

“Yay, look who’s here for breakfast. Welcome Erica!” Barbie said as she saw Erica walking down the stairs.

“Good morning everyone” she greeted. She was wearing a short with a huge top. The one she stole from her brother.

Calvin and Kelvin stole glances from her and quickly looked away. Tee helped her move from the wheelchair to the dinning.

“How was your night dear?” Calvin asked.

Kelvin heard the last word her brother just called Erica.
He was waiting to hear her reply.

“It was good” she replied with a smile on her face.

“Oh my gosh, I love your necklace Erica. It look expensive”

Kelvin stylishly stared at the necklace.
“Thank you. I got it as a birthday gift” she said, touching it.

“Yeah, it’s very beautiful” Calvin winked.

The cook started serving the meal.
Erica had to eat vegetables because of her health.

“I can’t eat this” she said.

“You have to eat Erica, if you want to get well soon” Barbie said.

“I hate vegetables. It’s tasteless” she said.

“Fine, you have to eat fish then” he said.

“Much better” she said and pushed the vegetable away.
She was waiting for her fish meal.

“Get the fish meal” Calvin ordered.
The cook bowed and went into the kitchen. She came back minutes later with the meal.

“Here it is Master!” He said and served her.

Erica sighed and started eating the assorted fish.
They all ate in silent.

“I need to talk to you Calvin” she said.

“Is it important? We can talk about it here” he said.

Erica stared at Barbie and Kelvin.
“I saw a message from the culprit” she started.

“What? What did he say?” He asked, dropping his fork.

Erica brought out the piece from her pocket and gave it to him.

He read it and gazed at Erica.
“This is very bad. I should call Josh!” He said and walked out of the dinning room.

Barbie picked it up and also gazed at it.
“No… You don’t have to” she said but Calvin left already.

Barbie glanced at Erica. She felt pity for her.
“I’m sorry Erica. You need to stay here to be protected from the culprit” she said.

“Thank you Barbie. I just hope he doesn’t hurt my brother or Ava or any of you because you are helping me”

“Excuse me” Kelvin said and left the dinning room.
Erica rolled her eyes and stared at her unfinished meal.

Josh came to the mansion after some hours. He was with other cops. This time he came wearing his uniform, looking so hot.

“When did you see the paper?” He asked Erica. He was sitting pretty close to her on the foamy couch.

“Last night after Calvin left my room” she said.

Kelvin heard that again. He didn’t know his brother went to her room last night. That was when he knew that it was Calvin that have her the necklace.
He secretly rolled his eyes.

Barbie wasn’t home. She went to shoot a movie and would be back tomorrow.

“I see. It’s okay, we would find his soon. Besides that, you are going to be safe here” he said, touching her lap.

“Thank you inspector, you can leave now” Kelvin quickly said when he saw his hand on Erica’s lap.

“Yes. I will. Thank you for your time” he said and left.

Kelvin was about to turn when Calvin appeared.
“I have to go to the company. Engineer Paul needs me” he said, adjusting his cufflinks.

“Sure. Be careful!” Erica said.

“Thanks baby!” He said jokingly as he left.
Erica smiled and turned to face Kelvin.

He was looking a little bit jealous. He took a sharp turn, wanting to leave.

“Kelvin” she called out.

“What do you want?” He asked.

She tried to stand up to sit on the wheelchair.
She almost fell but Kelvin quickly caught her. They both stared each other as he helped her on her wheelchair.

“Be careful” he said in a low voice.
Their faces were very close to each other, they could exchange breaths and feel each other warmth.

“Why acting like you care?” She whispered.

Kelvin smirked and moved away from her.
“Just be careful next time. My brother isn’t here to save you” he said and turned to leave.

“You’re saying that because you are jealous right? Jealous with the way I am with your brother, huh? Why don’t you just tell me that than for you to avoid me and treat me like trash?” Erica said with a little bit of anger in her voice.

Kelvin turned and walked towards her.
“Why? Why Erica why?! How can you say I’m treating you like trash? I’m trying to be nice here but no one deserves my kindness, not even you. So it’s good if you stay away from me and I’ll also stay away from you!” He grabbed her cheek and shoved her away.

Erica smiled.
“If that’s what you want, then so be it” she said and rode away.

Kelvin wished he could stop her and apologize to her but no. He just turned and left angrily.

From that very moment, they lived like strangers in the house.
Erica just avoided Kelvin all day as he also avoided her.
Calvin came back later in the evening with a gift bag for Erica.

Erica was in her room in a call with Ava. She was returning back from work.

“Are you kidding me? He really did that?”

“Yes, yes he did. And I promise to do exactly as he said. I will stay away from him” Erica said in an angry tone.

“No. I think there’s something on his mind and he doesn’t want to say it. Just let him be for the meantime” she said.

“No…”

“Who are you? Get away from me. Don’t touch me”

“Ava? Ava? Are you alright?” Erica asked as she heard Ava struggling with someone. She could hear their voices and Ava’s struggle.

“I said let go of me! Don’t touch me! Argh!!” Ava yelled

“Ava!!!”
