THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 51 – 60
EPISODE 55
After Pete returned to his office he thought long and hard about what he was feeling for Kathleen, and decided that maybe it was best to approach the situation like an adult. He could start by properly asking her to have lunch or dinner with him. Pete decided as he stood up from his desk and headed out the door again. His secretary looked at him with a frown as she wondered where he was going to this time, but he said nothing and just walked past her.
He stopped when he got to the door to Kathleen’s office and overheard the conversation between her colleagues, “You know ehn, after listening to that radio program yesterday, I was just thinking about it… How do people that date their boss at the office do it?” Rosy asked.
“How would you have done it had oga showed small interest in you? Idiot, jealousy wan kill you.” Dave said making her glare at him.
“This guy normal so? Did I invite you in this discussion? Abi I call your girlfriend name?” Rosy asked angrily.
“We all know you’re referring to Kathleen, so say what you want to say with your full chest! Anumpam!” Dave cussed.
“Is like you’re mad. Do I blame you? Only God knows whether you’re taking your share from her too. Defender in chief.” Rosy hissed.
“You can’t just shut your mouth, every minute your mouth is running like it has diarrhoea, spitting sht!” Dave said making Kathleen giggle suddenly.
They all turned to look at her in surprise since she hardly ever responded to their indirect banters, “Rose, or whatever your name is, if you have a problem with me, why not speak to me directly instead of talking indirectly like a primary school kid. If I’m dating oga what is your business? Is he your boyfriend abi you be him mama? Allow us have peace in this office, please. If you are so angry I’m close to him, why not go to his office and demand an explanation from him instead of all this nonsense you’re always doing? I’ve been ignoring all your silly snide remarks, and all the nonsense you all have been spewing on the group chat, but I won’t sit back anymore and tolerate your nonsense, so better advise yourself. If it comes to fighting, you can’t beat me either. I don’t need to remind you that I’m a warri girl, and though I’m a child of God, I have natural follow come crase in my head, so don’t try me.” Kathleen warned, shocking everyone in the office since that was the longest she had ever spoken to any of them before.
Pete who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, grinned to himself before clearing his throat to get their attention. Rosy and the others looked shocked to see him standing there, and they wondered how much he had heard, but he ignored them as his eyes went to Kathleen.
Since they were already talking a lot, there was no need being discreet about what he wanted. It was best they all knew he was openly interested in her, “Kat do you mind having dinner with me tonight?” Pete asked seriously.
THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 51 – 60
Kathleen’s heart skipped a beat as she looked at him, she had not expected that. Or was he asking just for show? So she would pepper her colleagues like she had done the other day?
She was about to respond when Chuka stepped inside the office with a rose flower in his right hand, Pete turned around as Kathleen’s eyes widened in confusion. She had planned it with Chuka earlier, following Sharon’s suggestion, but she had not expected her boss to ask her out on a dinner date in front of everyone, neither had she expected Chuka to come at exactly this moment.
Pete didn’t need to ask any questions since he knew exactly who Chuka was. But he knew he had to pretend not to know, “Who are you?” Pete asked coolly.
“I’m Chuka, Katty’s boyfriend, I suppose you’re her boss?” He replied with a smile stretching his hand for a handshake, ignorant of the tension his presence was causing.
Boyfriend? She accepted already? Pete wondered as he took Chuka’s hand in a firm handshake, and looked at Kathleen and then at Chuka.
Kathleen’s colleagues watched the scene before them in confusion as they wondered what was going on. Was she two-timing? She had a boyfriend? She was dating the boss too?
Pete gave a curt nod before excusing them. He silently cussed himself for asking her out like that in the presence of everyone. He felt more than embarrassed.
“How did I do?” Chuka asked grinning like an idiot as he walked outside with Kathleen. “Do you think he believed me?” He asked, turning to look at Kathleen who was frowning.
“He believed you alright. But you came at the wrong time. He was just asking me out to dinner before you came, and you ruined it.” Kathleen said in an irritated tone that shocked her even more than it surprised Chuka. It shocked her because she didn’t even know if he meant the invitation or not. But the idea of him asking her to have dinner with him, had thrilled her somehow.
“You’ve decided you like him and want to date him?” Chuka asked looking at her with understanding.
“I don’t know, maybe I want to, maybe not. But I think I’m physically attracted to him and maybe he is too. I just want to find out if there’s more.” Katty said with a shrug.
“Not maybe. He is. He likes you already. Did you even notice how he looked at me? I don’t think anything is ruined. This should make him feel even more desperate to have you. Why not go accept his dinner invitation?” Chuka asked, making Kathleen look at him uncertainly.
“You told him you’re my boyfriend… He’s not going to want to take me to dinner.” Kathleen pointed out. She was feeling very nervous with the whole thing, her heart was beating really fast and she had this uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.
“He will. Just give it a try.” Chuka said with a reassuring smile.
“Okay. I’m sorry I sounded ungrateful a moment ago, I just…”
“Nevermind that. If you ask me, I think what you feel for him is more than physical attraction. You like him too.” Chuka pointed out.
“Why do you think so?” Kathleen asked with a frown.
“What if you get to his office and see another lady there who claims to be his girlfriend? How would you feel?” Chuka asked, making Kathleen frown.
“He doesn’t have a girlfriend.”
“What if he does?” Chuka asked again.

Kathleen thought about it for a moment, and the more she thought about it, the more her heart felt like it was being squeezed,”I don’t think I would like that much.” She answered honestly.
“You’d be jealous because you don’t want someone else to have him. And that’s because you want him. So go for it. I’m going back to my office.” Chuka said with wave as he headed for his car.

“Uhm… Sorry about that. I didn’t realize you weren’t in.” Ken said with an apologetic smile, and for a moment she forgot she was mad at him and just stood there admiring his handsome face, before she remembered what he had said the previous evening.
“Then you should have called, that’s why you have my number.” Ella said with a frown. She wasn’t sure she wanted to have any form of conversation with him, since she knew her day was bound to be ruined by whatever he was going to say.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think you would take my call.” Ken said looking very embarrassed now as he turned to the secretary, “I’m sorry.”
“Why not? And why are you here? Are you feeling better now?” Ella asked when she remembered he had been sick just the previous day.
“Yes. Can we speak? Privately?” He added
Ella looked at him for a moment like she was contemplating it, “Let’s go into my office.” She said before walking past him. Ella’s heart was beating really fast as she wondered why he wanted to see her and what he wanted to say to her in private.
“Are you going to just sit down there and stare at me, or do you have something you need to say?” Ella asked impatiently, when Ken didn’t say anything after they were seated for a while.
THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 51 – 60
Now that he was seated across from her, Ken didn’t know where to start from or what to say to her, “I’m sorry. What I said was very stupid and annoying. I wasn’t thinking right.” Ken said apologetically.
“You could have texted. You didn’t have to drive all the way here just to tell me that.” Ella pointed out.
“I needed to see your face as I talk to you. I’m sorry for hurting you or annoying you. It was never my intention. I swear it.” Ken said, looking at her earnestly.
“I thought we were done with this conversation already? I said I’ve forgiven you and we can go back to being acquaintances. I see no reason you’re here apologizing again.” Ella said with a sigh as she turned on her laptop and pretended to be busy with work.
“Are you still mad about the kiss?” Ken asked, making her glare at him, even though she was actually feeling more embarrassed than angry.
“Can you not bring that up again? I’d rather not talk about it.”
“Fine. Can I take you out for lunch? I’d like to talk to you about something.” Ken said, making Ella look at him with a slightly raised brow.
“I just returned from lunch, and we are alone in my office. You can say whatever you want to say here.” Ella said making Ken wipe his face with one hand. He usually had the right word for every lady he meets, but some how he always ended up being tongue-tied whenever he was around Ella.
“It’s something really personal. About why I decided to become the kind of lawyer I am, and how it relates to the actual reason I left that morning, and tried staying away from you.” Ken said, making Ella laugh humorlessly.
“I see you’ve had enough time to come up with a good story.”
“Just come with me to my house for dinner, and I’ll fix us both dinner and tell you everything. As well as why I’m so drawn to you.” Ken added making Ella narrow her eyes.
“Ken…”
“Please don’t say No. I promise not to touch you. I’ll completely keep my distance from you. I promise.” Ken said making Ella sigh. What was wrong with him all of a sudden? Why was he acting so devoted? If she didn’t know better she would think he had feelings for her.
“It’s just past 1 PM. It’s still work hours. I need to work. So why don’t you go home or return to your office? I’ll join you once I’m done for the day.” Ella suggested, but Ken was skeptical about that since she could easily back out of it once he leaves.
“I’ll wait for you. Then we can leave together once you’re done.” Ken suggested making Ella roll her eyes.
“This is my office not a waiting room. Go home and I’ll meet you once I’m ready!” Ella told him harshly.
Before he could respond to her, her phone started ringing and she quickly picked it up guiltily when she saw it was a call from Pete, “Good afternoon.” She greeted, since she wasn’t sure of what Pete wanted to say hence there was no reason letting Ken know she was on the phone with Pete.
“Yeah, sup? I just left Ken’s house. He finally told me why he doesn’t want to get married, so you don’t have to ask him anymore.” Pete explained making Ella stand up from her seat, since Ken was watching her keenly.
“He did? What were his reasons?”
“I’m not sure it’s in my place to tell you that. But I think he might want to talk to you, so please give him listening ears, okay?” Pete pleaded.
Ella sighed, “I’ve heard you. Let’s talk later, I’m busy.” Ella said before hanging up. Hearing the concern in Pete’s voice, Ella became even more curious about Ken’s reason.
“I don’t want to do dinner with you, so let’s just go over to my house instead so we finish early.” Ella suggested as she picked up her handbag.
“What about work?” Ken asked in concern.
“I’ll do it tomorrow. Let’s just go over whatever you want to say. That way you won’t be showing up randomly at my place of work anymore.” Ella said with a slightly raised brow as she waited for him to move.
“If you say so.” Ken said as he stood up and walked over to the door. He opened it, and held it open for her to pass, whether she knew it yet or not, after today he was going to be showing up at her office even more randomly.

______________
“What do you want?” Pete asked Kathleen immediately she stepped into his office without knocking. She had ignored the secretary and hadn’t bothered to tell the secretary to inform Pete that she wanted to see him.
He was still a bit miffed and embarrassed by what had just happened in her office. He couldn’t believe how he had made a fool of himself by asking her on a date in the presence of everyone only for her boyfriend to show up. From the way they had been behaving during lunch the previous day, he should have guessed that something was up between them. He was pretty positive that she had come to rub it in.
THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 51 – 60
Kathleen stared at Pete not knowing what to say or where to start from, “Well, you were asking about dinner before we were interrupted earlier.” She said finally.
“Before we were interrupted by your boyfriend, you mean? Forget it, I know the answer already so I don’t need to hear it from you.” Pete said sarcastically.
“And what do you think is the answer?” Kathleen asked curiously.
“Kathleen, just forget I ever asked that, okay? You should return to your office, I’m sure you still have so much you need to do before the close of work.” Pete said, and returned his attention to his laptop.
“But did you really mean it? Or did you ask only because you overheard the conversation in the office before you came in?” Kathleen asked stubbornly making Pete sigh.
“What difference does it make?”
“You never can tell. So just answer my question.” Kathleen insisted.
“Why? Why do you want to know?” Pete asked with a slightly raised brow.
“Because I want to.” Kathleen said simply.
“You want to what?” Pete asked impatiently.
“I want to go out for dinner with you.” She said, looking at him hopefully.
“And what about your boyfriend?” Pete asked,
“He’s not really my boyfriend, he is just a friend. He just likes introducing himself as my boyfriend.” Katty explained.
Pete watched her for a while while she held his gaze. He then decided to put her to test, so he stood up and walked towards her. Kathleen stood there, looking at him and wondering what he was about to do. Her heart skipped a beat when he stopped in front of her. Even though her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest, she didn’t step back or look away from him.
Pete brushed his right thumb over her lips and watched as she swallowed nervously and flicked her tongue over her lips. As he lowered his lip down to hers, he was no longer sure if he was standing in front of her to test her, or to test himself. Knowing the kind of person she was, he expected her to push him away or stop him, but to his surprise she opened her lips and kssed him back.
Kathleen let her curiosity get the best of her, and even though she knew she should stop him, she just didn’t want to. She wanted to see if kssing him in reality was anything like it had been like in her dreams. She only prayed that thunder would not strike and fire her for what she was doing. She was a Christian and wasn’t sure kssing a man she wasn’t married to was right in God’s sight.
Kssing wasn’t f®rnication right? Fornication involves sex not kssing. Besides the apostle in the Bible had said, ‘Welcome your brother with an holy kss’. This Kss was holy enough, and she could say she was welcoming him even though they were in his office. Oh God! Were these the kind of thoughts she was supposed to be having while kssing? Maybe she was just going to ask the youth pastor if kssing was a sin. The last thing she wanted was to go to hell because of ordinary small kss. Instead of that to happen she would just commit all the sins and go to he.ll.
