Danica
I swear, I felt my heart stop beating as I stared at him. My lungs completely became dry.

What’s he….what’s he talking about?

The…the lady he’s looking for??

“M….My prince?” I stuttered nervously, trying as nchh as possible to stop my lips from shaking. My eyes were already dilating in surprise.
Oh my God! Just tell me I didn’t hear him properly or something.

“Why did you hide it from me all these while, Danica?” He asked again, increasing my anxiety.
I gulped hard.

“You knew i waa looking for you; I was looking for the lady that saved me. Yet, you said nothing. Why?”

My mouth were agaped as conniption gripped me.
I was obviously shocked.

The prince knows??? He knows I’m the lady he’s been looking for??

But…but how? How possible? How did it happen??

Oh my God! How did he find out?? What do I do??

I was completely gob smacked as I lowered my gaze to the table. My hands were shaking so I couldn’t hold my pen anymore.

The prince was silent as well, for a long time.

Then,,he came close and sat in front of me.

“It was you, right?” He asked calmly, his eyes on my face.
But i couldn’t bring myself to respond.

“I need an answer, Danica. Or am I saying the wrong thing?”

At a point, I thought of lying, lying and denying every single thing. But she felt it was pointless. For him to had said it so openly and boldly, she felt hs had concrete evidence.

So, slowly, she shook her head.

Prince Nathan sighed and leaned back on his chair as he saw that as a confirmation signal. Indeed, she was the one.

He stared into her shy face,,her shy face which looked so cute from it.

“So,,why have you been hiding, then?” He asked, but she was speechless again
If only he knew the gravity of nervousness she was passing through at the moment.

“Is there a problem? You can talk to me”,, he persisted and I finally decided to find my tongue.

“I….I …I was…” I paused and gulped hard.
“I’m sorry, my prince. I was just…scared”,

“Scared?” He scoffed. “scared of what exactly?”

I bit my lower lip as I felt my heart growing big. It was growing big out of anxiousness.

“I was just….I didn’t want to be exposed. I’m sorry”,I bent my head bashfully.

Though, I wasn’t looking at him, I felt him smile.

“You didn’t have to be scared of me, Danica”, he said calmly.
“I had no intentions of hurting you. All I wanted was to see you – nothing more”.

I bit my lower lip again. G©sh! I felt so nervous and wished he’d just let me go. I wanted to go home now.

“The day you’d saved me, did you see who the attempted murderers were?” He asked and I responded to that quickly. I shook my head.

“I was actually on my way to a friend’s place through the woods. And…I’d found you unconscious, on the floor. That’s the only thing I know, my prince.

“I’d quickly rushed back home to get the first aid kit, I treated you with it and when I noticed you were awake, I…..I had to run away”, I explained and he stared at mr with rapt attention.

He stared downwards and carassed his lower lip with his thumb, seeming to be in deep thoughts.

“Okay, then”, he said, anyway.
“Thank you”.

For the first time in minutes since we began talking, I lifted my eyes to look at him, feeling relieved.

“You’re welcome, my prince”, I muttered in a tiny voice and lowered my gaze again.

He smiled and stood up.

“Come on, I’ll drop you off at home”. He walked over to a wardrobe in the room and I lifted my eyes to look at him.

Since he was now backing me, I decided to use the opportunity to admire him.

He walked like the Royalty he was, everything on him looking so expensive.

G©sh! What’s wrong with me? This isn’t the first time I’m seeing him, is it?

He opened the wardrobe, took out what he wanted and when he was done, I quickly looked away before he’d turn around.

I stood up with my bag, fiddling with the rope and asked he returned from the wardrobe, I started walking towards the door.

I opened it and got out and the prince followed immediately.

Her daughter served the drinks, but I’d only taken a sip from mine.

“Has there been any news on your mother?” She asked as she dropped her glass.
A flash of anger ran through me.

“Not yet”,I growled a reply.

“Oh, dear. I wonder where could she be at the moment. I’m sure she….”

“Stop talking about my mother”, I snapped in, unable to stop my voice from being harsh.

She nodded in understanding and lifted her glass again.

“So, son, what can old Kathleen do for you?” She asked I exhaled sharply.
That was what I came for.

“Its about the disciples, ma’am”, I began.
“I want to know about them”.

“The disciples” she repeated sensitively.
“All the disciples are dead. None of them can be found alive”.

“None?”,I asked and she looked at me with scrutiny

“Oh….well, one of them had gone missing back then – the 12th disciple”, she told me what I’d been craving to hear.

“The story of that lit go child is a little complicated. What I know is,,her mother had been in jail at the time of her delivery. So…I don’t know what her agreement was with the father of the child, but it seems they’d decided to give up the child to the palace. They brought her to become a disciple and of course, we accepted.

“But when her father was killed, her grandmother had gotten angry and demanded for the release of her grandchild. When we refused, she found a way to smuggle in and steal the child. So, we strongly believe the 12th disciple is with her.

“We’d searched an combed the entire city for her during that period, but it seemed she’d gone far away and couldn’t be found. Its been 18 years already, my prince. We have no idea where could she be” she concluded, enthrailing me the more.

It was more difficult than I thought.

“This grandmother…what’s her name?” I asked and she replied:

“Ha-nuel”.

“Do you…perhaps, have any picture of her?”

“Y….Yes, I think so. During the search, her pictures had been produced. Wait here for me, my prince. I think I’d kept one somewhere….”

She stood up and I watched her climb the stairs.

My eyes followed her until she couldn’t be seen anymore and I waited for a very long time.

“Found it!” I heard her voice and turned to see her climbing down the stairs.
She had a picture in her hand.

“Sorry I took so long, son. Finding the old picture wasn’t an easy one’.

I didn’t pay attention to what she was saying as my eyes were just focused on the rusty picture in her hand.

She got to where I was and handed it to me.

“There – that’s Ha-nuel”, she added.

I collected the picture and stared at it with scrutiny. It was a young woman, a woman who was probably too young to be a grandmother.

Hmm.

Ha-nuel. I guess she’s my target now.

The drive home was very silent as I didn’t say a word to the prince, and he didn’t either. The car’s FM just did the talking.

“Um….you can stop here, my prince. Thanks a lot”, I told him as we got close to the house.
I couldn’t have him taking me any further.

He stopped the car and unlocked my door with a button.

“Thank you, my prince. We’d um…see in school for the final presentations”, I told him but he didn’t say a word and I tried opening my door.

“Here”, he stopped me and I turned to look at him.
He brought out an envelope from his side and proffered it to me.

“You can use this for your T-fare to school tomorrow”.

Whaaaaat???

My heart jumped into my chest.

“My…My prince” I stuttered.
“There’s um…no need for that, my prince. I….”

Before I could finish up, he dropped the envelope on my legs.

I gulped nervously and picked it up, fixing it into my bag.

“Thank you, my prince. Thanks a lot’,, I bowed repeatedly.

“Bye”, he muttered slightly and I opened the door and left.
