The United States of American Embassy, in collaboration with the development Research and Projects Centre, has trained 100 English language teachers in translation from Hausa to English.

A statement by the Project Director, Hajiya Aisha Bello, said 10 schools in Kano benefited from the training, saying it was part of the teacher development project funded under the USAID Northern Education Initiatives Plus project.

She maintained that as part of the programme, a team of 11 leading Kano state officials worked for 3 days in Bauchi State to study the practice of teacher development for language transition of the USAID funded Northern Education Initiative NEI Plus project.

According to her, the 11-member team of officials consist of staff from the Kano State Universal Basic Education Commission; the Kano State Library Board; and the Association of Nigerian Authors.

“The programme, anchored in the American Corner of the Kano State Library Board the Teacher Development for Transition to English, aims to improve the English language competences of 100 SUBEB Grade 3 English teachers in the transition from Hausa to English in 10 government primary schools in five rural and five urban LGAs in Kano State.

‘’For Over three days from the 23rd to 26th March 2021 the training ended on March 26, 2021. The Kano state learning visit team interacted and learned from NEI-plus Bauchi State team, visited beneficiary schools in the NEI-plus program and interacted with the School Support Officers and the NEI-plus Master trainers.
