CHAPTER 49

Layla stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi when she heard her name, she turned to see Gary behind her

“Hey” she waved

“You going to work?” He asked and she nodded

“I’m starting today after a pretty bad disaster yesterday”

“What happened?”

“I’d rather not say” she sighed

“Should I drop you off?” He asked and she nodded

“Sure, I’d love that”

“I’ll be right back” he said and left, few minutes later he came back in his car and stopped in front of her

She got in and he drove off

While Kai who just came out stood there looking at Gary’s car drive off

“You’re late and you’re slow” Gary had told him in the parking lot

Watching Layla get into the car without asking questions or making weird facial expressions made him believe she was comfortable around Gary

More than she was around him, the thought of that made his heart cringe for an unknown reason…

“Thank you so much Gary” Layla said when Gary stopped in front of her work place

“It’s no big deal, when’s your closing time I can come pick you up” Gary said

“No don’t worry about it, thank you” she declined politely and Gary nodded

“Okay then, see you around” he said and she waved before going inside

“Right on time” Layla heard Gina say

“Oh hi Gina” Layla said going to the changing room, she came out few minutes later dressed in her work wears

“You ready for your actual and official first day?” Gina asked

“As long as Mr Brian doesn’t barge in then I’m more than ready I guess”

“You don’t have to worry because boss doesn’t stop by frequently and for the record he hired you himself” Gina said

“What?” Layla asked stunned

“Yes, we’re obviously full and not in need of any workers but boss hired you”

“Do you perhaps have any idea why?” Layla asked again

“I have no idea” Gina shook her head before leaving

Layla was still confused as to why Kai had hired her, she could remember she hadn’t applied at óúi coffee when she was looking for a job

And she obviously hadn’t talked to him about it so how did he know, and he hired her himself?, Why?

*You should be thankful idiot and stop asking stupid question* her subconscious screamed

She would, she would thank him when she sees him even if he’s cold he still saved her ass right?

She sighed and went to work

When it was almost time for Layla to close Kai came in, he had his hand in his pockets he had his usual poker face on

“Good evening sir” Gina greeted loudly catching Layla’s attention

Kai?, He was here again?, Why?, All the other workers greeted him including Layla

“Are you done for today?” He asked

“Almost sir, we’re rounding up” Gina replied

“Alright then” he said glancing shortly at Layla before going out

“Okay people, let’s wrap up real quick so we can all go early” Gina clapped and everyone resumed their works.
