CHAPTER 35

“Don’t touch me, don’t try it…” He muttered hatefully.
_________

He turned again and began limping away as bloody water kept falling from his body to the wet ground.

Jemima made to stand, but her palms hurt. They peeled as a result of the fall, and they’re already bI.eeding.

She looked at Maxwell again, and she employed all her strength this time, standing with heavy breaths.

“Maxwell!!!” She screamed, but he wouldn’t stop till he was completely out of the mansion.

A car suddenly stopped beside him, and Sloane came out with an umbrella.

“Mell!” She gasped, seeing his condition.

“Mell what happened to you!” She rushed to cover him with the umbrella, and he sniffed before talking.

“I’m fine”

“No you’re not, get in the car and let’s get you treated” she said.

“But…

“I won’t release you no matter the excuse you give, trust me and just get in” she cut in.

Maxwell looked her in the eye, and she nodded, opening the car door wider for him.

He stepped in, and she shut the door. She looked at the mansion and saw Jemima standing in front of it with bI.eeding palm in the rain.

She didn’t spare a blink before getting in the car with Maxwell, driving him away.

Jemima continued standing there, hating herself so much as the rain drenched her more.

He’s obviously so hurt, both physically and emotionally, that’s why he let it all out like that.

She walked back in wetly, and Dolores rushed to her.

“Madam you’re wet!”

Jemima went upstairs without a word, straight to her room where she yanked off the wet clothes and put on a new nightie.

She sat in front of her dressing table gently and began thinking about earlier, revelling in the memories of some minutes ago.

“Don’t touch me! Don’t try it”

His hurtful words hit her head, and the look in his face when he was pouring out his emotions, his wounds.

She closed her eyes when she couldn’t think about it anymore, then she grabbed the porcelain pot of tulip flowers on the table, hugging it tightly to her chest.

Tears escaped her eyes when she remembered Darrell, and the tears fell on the pot as she continued hugging it.

“It’s not my fault, I’m so sorry” she cried slowly.

Francesca stood by her door as usual, listening to the sounds of her cries sadly with her ears glued to it.

“You’re doing that again?” Dolores appeared.

“Nanny!” She faced her, and she smiled before carrying her.

“I wonder when you’d stop carrying me like a baby” she said.

“You’ll always be my baby” Dolores laughed, taking her back to her room. It’s in different shades of cream and orange.

“Why is mum crying anytime she’s not with a man?” She asked immediately Dolores set her in bed.

“I have no idea either, and I told you times without number that it may be because of her past”

“I wish I can console her, I hate when she cries” Francesca muttered, and Dolores sighed as she stroked her hair.

“Change will come soon, I promise you”

“Did someone come here? I think I heard the sound of a car when I was writing my assignments” Francesca blinked.

“Oh…her new secretary” Dolores replied.

“Mell? It was him?” Francesca spranged up.

“Yes, the swimmer you told me about, but he’s not in a good condition” Dolores replied.

“What! What do you…mean?” Francesca’s eyes widened.

“I think he got into an accident, he’s greatly wounded”

“What!” Francesca jumped down from the bed and got her phone immediately.

She began trying his line again, fidgeting the fact that she’s still mad at him for their cancelled outing.

AN HOSPITAL

“The wounds got treated already” the doctor finally came out to Sloane after she waited out for thirty minutes.

“Oh! Thanks” she smiled and rushed in to meet Maxwell in bed.

His knees were bandaged, and his arm was plastered, then his forehead too.

“Mell do you feel better?” She asked, sitting beside him.

“I’m fine now, thanks for bringing me here” he smiled shortly.

“But the wounds… your swimming…

“I heal fast, so you don’t have to worry” he smiled again, and she sighed, touching his hair.

“What actually happened?” She asked, stylishly stroking the hair.

“It was a minor accident” he muttered.

“Was it Jemima?” She asked, and he looked at her.

“It really…

“You can’t lie to me, it’s obvious in your eyes that this is related to her” she interrupted, and he sighed.

“I’m sorry about it, my bestie can be so inconsiderate, annoying and act inhumane at times, but…

“But what?” He looked up.

“Please don’t take it to heart, there’s actually a reason for it, but that doesn’t mean I support how she treats you. I’ll talk to her” she said.

“I quit already” he replied.

“What!” Her eyes widened.
