Brown skin girl

?Chapter one?

Her were eyes fixed on the wide mirror in front of her as she danced to the loud beat of the music player on her cabinet.

Dancing was what made her happy. She had full control of her bones, her joints, possibly her blood too. And every element in her body obeyed her every command.

Trisha danced whenever she was sad, happy, angered, excited… It seemed to cool her off.

Right then, she danced to cool off her anger. Her dance steps were so aggressive and her bones looked like they were begging her to stop.

It seemed like she was getting ready for war because the expression on her face was… Killing.

She tried to keep her mind off the damn news her dad broke out to her.

Leaving Detroit? How could they leave Detroit? Why? Her life was founded in Detroit, Her friends, memories… Of her mum…

She screamed and hit down the lamp on top her side table, still dancing like she couldn’t stop. She was breathing hard and sweating profusely as she kept moving her body like her life dapended on it.

She heard her dad’s knock on the door but pretended like she didn’t

“Tris, are you okay in there?” She heard him ask but pretended like she didn’t.

Damian opened the door and came in slowly. Trisha stopped dancing and sharply faced the door, standing hands akimbo

“I didn’t tell you to come in, dad!” She said. Damian nodded
“I…I know, I heard something and I had to come check on you.” He said and his eyes rested on the broken lamp on the floor.

He pointed at it
“Em… Tris, do I have to keep replacing your lamp every week?” He said rhetorically.

Trisha rolled her eyes and crossed her arms
“What do you want dad?”

Damian giggled nervously “What do I want? Ha… Do..do I need to want something before I come to see my cute baby girl?..” He commented and faked a laugh
Trisha rose a brow at him. He cleared his throat and wore a serious expression

“Okay…em, Can we talk about… Err.. The whole ‘moving’ stuff.” He said taking a seat on her bad. She took her towel and began to dab the sweat off her body while she stopped the music

“What do you want to talk about in it..? I totally understand! My dad is such a woss in love that he wants to take away his daughter’s happiness he wants to move in with his girlfriend!” She said carelessly

“He..ll, no! Tris!” Damian exclaimed and sighed “You have to understand… Every thing I do, I do it for you.” He said.

Trisha scoffed and went about arranging the books on her study table.

“My every action is just to make you happy” He said again
“Yup, Leaving Detroit totally makes me happy… Hurray, can’t wait!” She said, sarcasm loathing her tone.

There was silence for a while, except for the ruffling papers on Trisha’s table.

“Tris… Ever since your mum passed two years ago, you changed a lot. There is a vacuum in your heart and although it’s a space, it is heavy. You got the feeling of insecurity…”

Trisha turned sharply to cut him off “I have never for once felt insecure. I’m fine by myself!”

“_I’m your father, Tris, I know! The burden of her leaving weighs you down!

Trisha felt tears prick her eyes. She turned back to her table and blinked rapidly to stop them from falling

Damian stood up “The memories you shared with her lies within these walls… You can never move on when every single day you go through, you live your life wishing she never left because the memories are fresh.”

“Well… I don’t want it to fade!” She snickered

“_That is why the pain is fresh and it seems like she died when you turned 17”
Trisha felt the stubborn tears come back again and she cursed it.

“That vacuum may not be filled again, but you need someone to continue the journey with…” He said softly “… You need a mum!”

Trisha gave a painful laugh “Like I would ever call that red haired bitch my mum” She said and cleaned her eyes with the back of her palm.
“You’ve never even met her!” Damian complained

“I wish I don’t have to!” She replied. Damian rolled his eyes at the back of her head.
“Whatever… And don’t call her a bitch, she’s my wife.”

“Psst… She’s your white witch!” She commented. Damian spread his hands in horror.
“And you are my brown coconut!” He said

“Seriously, dad? Thats the best you could come up…” She was interrupted by Damian’s tickles. She was laughing uncontrollably and running round the room simultaneously, telling him to stop

“Say ‘I’m a peanut!'” Damian told her while tickling her and chasing her round the room
“You’re a peanut” she replied admist laughter.

“Well, I guess you are not ready to stop laughing!” He said and raced her to the bed. They grabbed the pillows and engaged themselves in a pillow fight with Trisha winning.

They heard a ripping sound and paused to see a pillow pouring down snow. They exchanged glances and continued playing like 5 year olds.

When they had played to exhaust, they laid down on the bed letting out waste in breaths and sweats. Trisha’s black curly hair was decorated with pillow feathers.

“I guess I’ll have to replace a lamp and four pillows then” Damian joked and she giggled.
They laid in comfortable silence. Her dad was right.

Detroit did bring back memories of her mum and yes she needed someone to help her heal. But he was doing fine. She didn’t know what she would have done without him

“Thank you, dad” She broke the silence with her eyes fixed on the chandelier. Damian tilted his head to the side to look at her. He gave her hand a little squeeze.

“And thank you too… For being my daughter.” He said. Trisha looked at him confusion written on her face

“I want you to know that wherever you find yourself, if no other person appreciates you, I do.

And except you appreciate yourself, no one else will.. When you appreciate yourself, any other motherfucker that doesn’t appreciate the wonderful person you are should…”

“Fk off” Trisha completed with a smile. Damian smiled back at her and ruffled her hair.

“That’s my peanut!” He praised and placed a kiss on her forehead.

“And now its time for me to scold you…! Your music was too loud!” He said and she laughed. He laughed too.

“Okay dear… So start packing up, we’ll be leaving next week!” He said climbing off the bed.

He went to her study table and saw her phone ringing.
“Hey peanut! Your crush is calling”

Trisha’s eyes widened and she turned sharply to him. She rushed to him and snatched the phone from his hand
“Ok dad, you’ve overstayed your welcome” she said hurriedly, pushing him out.

“Why would you save someone’s name as ‘my crush’? That’s so dumb” He said allowing her to push him outside
“Yeah, I know right? More reason you have to get out!”

She said and successfully pushed him out the door “Bye dad… Later!” She said and slammed the door.

She rested on the door and answered the call
“Oh Gab… Hey hey!” She said totally changing her voice.
