?Brown skin girl?
?Chapter fifteen?
Dun! Dun!! Duuuuuuuuuu
Trisha walked into the school that night. She was earlier than she expected, the event was to begin by 10pm and she was there by few minutes to ten.
She wore a blue jeans and a black turtle necked top, which was the dance gang’s attire for the dance.
When she got to the school’s main hall, it was already full with students ready to party and to showcase their talents. Girls did a real makeover for it, it was like the girls in the hall were competing.
She stylishly searched for Chloe and Ruby. She found them on one side of the hall discussing and drinking their smuddy.
Trisha contemplated on going to meet them and know if they would need her in the dance.
She took a hesitant step towards them and stopped. She shook her head and turned around to go… She stopped again…
Come on, Trisha, they’re your friends. She heard in her head.
She swallowed a lump and turned around. She took a deep breath before she took a huge step towards them.
With her hands tangled at her back, she met them with a nervous smile plastered on her face.
“Hiiii” She greeted with a small wave and her hand went back to its position.
Ruby and Chloe turned to notice her.
“Oh hi, Trisha… We’re surprised to see you.” Ruby said in sarcasm.
“I’m not.. Kyle, Jack and Ryan are not yet in the show so she’s kinda bored.” Chloe said sternly, looking hard at Trisha.
Trisha frowned and gave a sad frown, leading her hands to tangle in front of her.
“Err… I just.. I wanted to see… I just…” She sighed and gulped.
“I dunno… But I could join you girls if you need me… I still remember the steps.” She offered, with a nervous smile.
Chloe scoffed.
“Of course we need you! We’re hopeless without you.” She said cockily and rolled her eyes.
“I think she’s trying to say… We’ll be fine by ourselves.” Ruby interpreted.
Trisha looked down and nodded her head slightly
“Yeah… I thought so too.” She said and turned around to leave.
She cursed herself for trying at first and she ended up stomping away from them.
She frowned deeply in annoyance.
Seriously?? Couldn’t they be any nice? Ok, that was expected of Chloe but Ruby? She huffed… Chloe must have poisoned Ruby’s mind because Ruby was never mean.
Arrrgh. Why couldn’t she just have respect for herself and stay on her own? She hit her head in her palm in regrets.
Fine! If they didn’t need her anymore, she didn’t care. She has Kyle and Jack and… Ryan!
She gasped.
Damn! That was who she was supposed to look for and not Ruby and Chloe.
She began to look for any trace of Ryan or even Kyle or Jack.
Where could he be? Where could they be?
The hall was already flooded and the party was about to begin.
She needed to find him before it…
“Good evening Botley high…” She groaned as she heard Mrs Hanns voice ring around the hall. She looked to the presumed stage and saw Mrs Hanns, looking as cool as ever. “Welcome to this year’s Talent hunt! By the power invested in me by…me… I announce that this party gets started.” She said into the mic and the students began to shout excitedly.
“We could lighten the atmosphere with some crazy dancing!” She said and the vibration of the music began to shake the hall.
Trisha smiled… Mrs Hanns could be so cool when she wanted to… Wait.. Not good!
Soon, the hall was filled with the students dancing to the beat.
She tried to make her way to a clear sight to avoid being hit by some dancing bodies. It was quite hard because she couldn’t even squeeze her way through.
“Excuse me…. Coming through… Excuse me… Eww..” She said most the times.
“Excuse me… Argh” she yelped as someone pushed her and she began to fall.
She felt someone catch her from behind, half way to the ground.
“Wanna dance?” He said.
She struggled to be firm on her feet.
“No… I was looking for…” Wait… That was Ryan.
She swirled around and saw him standing there with an impish grin on his face.
“Ryan!” She exclaimed in relieve. “I’ve been looking all over for you.” She added with a smile.. That came out wrong.
Ryan rose a brow in a boastful way.
“… And Kyle and Jack too” She added quickly, a blush quickly spreading on her tan cheeks.
“Ok… So you’ve found your prince charming… May I have this dance, mi lady.” He said curtly, bowing slightly with his hand stretched towards her to receive.
Trisha laughed.
“Oh, don’t be silly!” She said taking his hand. He gave her a cute smile and they began to dance.
Her heart was pounding and shyness was enveloping her! The way his hands felt in hers were so…good! She wished the song would be changed to slow beat so it would be romantic.
She mentally slapped herself her the thought! She had to be alert… Dance might be lurking in any corner. It was not a time to wish on flying puppies.
Her eyes darted to the corner and all she could see was a group of girls watching she and Ryan dance, with disgust on their faces.. She rolled her eyes.
Becky was not there yet. Why wasn’t she there yet? She scanned the area for any sign of Becky. She needed her then because who knows what was coming…
“So… Why were you looking for me?” Ryan said, semi-shouting,
Trisha looked up at him and gave him a small smile.
“Nothing much!” She shouted back over the sound of the music. “Just missed you.” She added.
Her eyes widened. Where did that come from? She mentally scolded herself for that stupid slip of her tongue when she saw the look on his face.
“Missed me?” He said unbelievably. “You should have said something.” He said and pulled her to close the distance between them.
Her heart picked up a race at that point. She looked up at his face that was just few inches away from hers. She gulped.
She looked into his eyes and saw affection in them..
She gasped as his hands strolled over to circle her slim neck, pushing her hair aside. Trisha’s lips parted in surprise.
Her eyes traveled around them and saw the amount of attention they were getting. Was Ryan actually publicly displaying affection? Her gaze jumps up to his face and she made to protest.
“Em.. Ryan..”
“Shhh… Sh… Shh…” Ryan hushed, his right hand leaving her neck to her face. He traced her lips with his fingers.
She gasped again.
He slowly leaned down to kiss her, Hus eyes not leaving her lips.
“So… Enough dancing enough dancing!” Mr Cameron said with the mic, getting everyone’s attention to the stage and interrupting the awesome moment between her and Ryan.
Ryan left her face but gave her a wink before looking towards the stage.
She felt a wave of disappointment wash over her at that moment. She shook it off immediately!
She looked to the side and noticed some girls glaring at her and having an ‘obvious’ gossip about her.
She rolled her eyes and looked to Mr Cameron that seemed like the organizer of the party.
Everybody took a seat and soon the hall was quiet and the event started.
Trisha sat with Ryan, Jack and Kyle as they began to watch the acapella doing their ‘thing’.
Trisha noticed the boys arguing about something beside her but she decided it was better not to come in without being invited.
Aft er a while of their whispers beside her, they turned to her
“We’ll be right back, we’ve gotta go check out something” Kyle requested.
She furrowed her brows.
“No… Check out what?” She protested.
“Mmmm.. Boy stuff!” Jack said and grinned.
Trisha rolled her eyes.
“No! Don’t go anywhere.” She ordered. Her reason because, she didnt want Ryan to leave her sight.
They sighed.
“Come on, Tris… Ok fine, time us, we’ll be back in five minutes.” Ryan assured.
She rolled her eyes at the puppy looks the boys were giving her.
She slapped her head.
‘I better not regret this’.
“Fine! Fifteen minutes.” She permitted..
They threw their thank yous at her and Ryan suddenly planted a kiss on her cheek and her eyes widened
“Don’t miss me too much, babe.” He said and they scurried off.
What was wrong with Ryan? Was he high on something or what? Wasn’t it him that was too shy to ask her out two days ago?? Did Kyle and Jack inject him with something?
She shrugged and dragged her attention back to the acapellas as they rounded up their presentation.
Cool.. If in fifteen minutes and he was not back, she’ll go check on him… On them.
Shit, she didnt even ask them where they were going to be.
Trisha was bored out her skin even before the fifteen minutes exhausted..
For fucks sake, this was a talent hunt in high school and not kindergarten party. She thought as she watched some kids in a lower grade dance some steps she’ll tag ‘stupid’. It was comedy to the rest of them there but to her, she didnt see it funny.
She looked at the time in her wristwatch. It was just two minutes to the fifteen minutes that was agreed between them.
She heard laughters and looked. It was Kyle and Jack coming to their seats with popcorns.
She looked towards the door, Ryan was not with them.
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“We got you pop…” Jack started to say.
“Where’s Ryan?” She asked almost shouting.
Kyle and Jack looked taken aback.
They looked at his empty seat and around them.
“He’s not here yet? He left us a few minutes ago… We thought he was already with you… He should be here already, or maybe he went elsewhere.” Kyle said suggestively and they took their seats, looking totally unalarmed
Trisha’s eyes widened in fear. Her heart felt like ripping the doors on her chest apart and flying out.
She abruptly stood up.
“Where did you guys go?” She yelled, dragging some attention to herself.
‘Shh…’
‘Keep it down!..’
‘You’re distracting…’
‘Shut up, brownie!’…
And some other comments were poured from the students that noticed her outburst.
Kyle and Jack looked damn surprise.
“Calm, Tris… The back of the school, but we…” She stormed off before Jack could finish.
She was already sweating, the turtleneck was giving her no damn comfort.
She got outside the hall and her legs had a will of its own… To run.
She began to run as fast as she could.
The janitor!
The bad guys!
Ryan!
No! No! No!
She got to the main hallway and ran to the end, all the while thinking of what was wrong.
She bursted out of the school through the back door. The breeze brushed her hair to her face and she hastily pushed it aside, surveying the surroundings for any sign of Ryan. None.
She felt tears come to her eyes. No no.
“Ryan!!!” She called out.
And looked all around the back.
“Ryan!!!!” She shouted again, the wind blowing her voice away.
“Ryyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaannn!” She screamed, ignoring the crack in her voice.
She sniffled a little.
Basketball court.
She dashed back into the school and made her way in speed towards the basketball court.
‘Holy blessed baby Jesus, I know I’m a dmn sinner with no fking brain, but please don’t let them get him’ she muttered in her mind.
The closer she got to the court, the faster her heart beat. She was racing with her heart and the winner would get a prize.
She saw a girl standing with her phone in the hall way.
“Please, have you seen Ryan?” She asked, reaching her.
The girl turned to her slowly. There was something about the look on her face. It was…evil.. Trisha frowned in fear when the girl wore a wicked expression.
“Too late, Trisha.” She said and began to laugh..
Trisha took slow steps back, shaking her head vigorously. Stop hallucinating! She hit her head twice to stop herself from seeing things.
The girl’s laughter was echoing in the hall way.
Trisha looked around her and a lot of students that were not there before were there, with the same look that was on the girl’s face… And they were all saying.
‘Too late… Trisha’ and evil laughters erupting from every corner.
Trisha shut her eyes tight
‘Its just my imagination’ she repeated in her mind, taking a deep breath.
The noise she was hearing in her head were distracting and scaring the spirits out of her.
She let out a high pitched scream and it all subsided.
She opened her eyes and the hall was empty again.
Just her imagination.
She continued towards the Court, her mind still filled with fear.
She flung the doors open and screamed his name again, stepping into the Court.
“Ryan!”
She could only hear the echo of her voice and some crickets chirping.
She looked round the court again before stepping out and thinking hardly on where else he may be.
She was breathing heavily. She leaned on the wall and closed her eyes.
“Ryan.” She muttered..
“Hello her naughtiness!”
Her head snapped to the side and she screamed in frightfully at the sight.
The janitor was there… With Ryan…
Holding a gun to his head..
Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened in shock. Her skin grew pale and her lips grew numb.
She felt a hard grip on her hand and soon she was captivated by another man, his hand in her neck and a gun to her head too.
She gasped slightly.
“So… Her naughtiness… Remember me?” The janitor said and laughed wickedly.
“Let him go!” Trisha cried, hot tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Calm down, Trisha!” Ryan said softly but she could see clearly the fear on his face.
“Don’t tell me to calm down! I told you guys to stay with me!” She yelled at him, not minding the gun at her head.
“I’m sorry, ok? How did you even know?” Ryan asked, doing so well keeping the panic out of his voice.
“I felt it!” Trisha answered amidst tears.
“Liar! You knew all along!” The janitor said… “Do you really need to lie to him even in your points of death.?”
Trisha looked away..
She glanced at Ryan. He was sweating profusely and his Adam’s apple was jumping up and down in fright.
She looked back at the janitor.
“Don’t hurt him… Please… I’ll do whatever you want!” She cried. She would to anything to be sure Ryan didn’t die.
The janitor laughed heartily.
“You are useless to me, girl! He’s the one we need killed but you’ll go too because you just couldn’t mind your business”.
Becky! Where the fuck are you?
Trisha’s heart felt suddenly heavy.
“I’ll give you any amount of money you…” She tried to say.
“Shut up!” The janitor snapped. He pointed the gun threatingly at Ryan’s head. Ryan’s eyes closed, awaiting his fate.
“Another word from you and I’ll blow his head off… But no matter what, I’ll still blow it off. Haha” The janitor threatened
Trisha’s shoulders slumped in defeat and the tears knew no limits.
“I brought him here, to kill him in front of you, so you’ll know you failed.!” The janitor said and croaked the gun.
Trisha shook her head weakly, it felt like all blood was drained out of her.
“No…” She muttered
Ryan opened his eyes and looked at her.
She saw tears in his eyes.
“Trisha… “He called out in a shaky voice. “Whatever happens, I just want you to know that I love…” The janitor pulled the trigger.
Trisha screamed as Ryan’s lifeless body hit the ground.
Blood spilled on the ground and Ryan limb.
The janitor laughed.
“In every story, the Villain loses… But in this story, the villain wins” he said and pointed the gun at her.
She looked up at the gun pointed to her direction and she was damn ready to go. With Ryan gone, why should she live.
She glared at the janitor.
“Do it!” She dared.
The janitor croaked the gun.
“Say your last prayers…”
The sound of the gunshot was heard in the hall.
Trisha jolted up from the bed with a scream… Breathing heavily and sweating profusely.
Her eyes darted around. She was in her room, on her bed. Her eyes jumped to the side table, to her clock.
2:19am.
Its a dream!
