CRACKED LIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40

Chapter 36
“Is there a reason to love? If people have reasons to love or choose someone, what happens when that reason is no longer there? Beauty fades as we all go through life, we grow and change constantly and that is because we are human beings. Tell me, should there be another reason why I shouldn’t love her?” He replied tediously.
“Maybe because she is not all that smart and brilliant to pass her exams in flying colors so she would be given a scholarship.
Maybe because she was not brave enough to tell you that she loves you from the very first day she set her eyes on you and chose to see the bad side of you to feed her crumbling heart.
Maybe because she comes from a very poor family and is afraid to let you into her miserable life to avoid humiliations like the one she faced just now and she feels that you two are worlds apart.
Maybe because she doesn’t deserve someone like you because she might fk up one day and ruin your life with what she is known to be characterised with.
Maybe because she isn’t even as beautiful as one of the women you hang out with and she is an introvert who believes that her life will change if she buries her head in books every night and day.
Maybe because…” he put a finger on her lips and shut her up.
“Stop lying to yourself. Try seeing yourself the way I am seeing you and you will see that you are worth more than wealth. Molly, all I ask for is just one day with you. I know of a place we can go right away if you accept,”
“There are many reasons why you should not waste your time with me, I am fine if you are happy and…”
“And who told you I will be happy without you? Just accept to come with me. We will spend only one day and if you are certain you don’t want anything to do with me, I promise never to disturb you again and I will even leave this school, please?” He begged.
Molly looked at the school premises and knew that going back won’t be a good decision because the news of what happened has already escalated and her female enemies will be waiting for her in front of her classroom to tease her about it.
“I can’t go back in there. Let us go wherever you want!” She accepted without another thought.
He smiled and happily opened the car’s door for her. She got in and he rushed to the driver’s seat and sped off.

Mrs Smith looked at Justin up and down. Seeing her son adamant about going to search for Sophia, the very one thing she understood then was that he is in love and nothing can stop him.
She gave him a gvn and ordered the guards to go with him and keep in contact with her no matter what.
“I want to go too!” Alex came in as Justin was about to go.
“You have been through a lot, Alex. Let him go with the guards,” Mrs Smith insisted, but Alex refused to stay back.
“Please, my mind won’t be at peace if I don’t help in looking for her. Let me go with Justin and if possible protect him” Alex said.
Mrs Smith was at a loss of words to say to the young man. She didn’t need to be told that he is determined to go with Justin no matter what she says or how much she protests.
Just then, someone came in to report that Skyler is back, but badly wounded.
They all ran to meet him at once, many questions were thrown at him about Sophia and Celina, but he simply replied that he didn’t get a glimpse of them again after they all dispatched.
“You see what I told you? I’m sorry, but I must go and look for her! I will be on my way now and I won’t return without her!” Justin said and walked away.
“I will go with him too. I’m sorry, boss!” Alex said, bowed and ran after Justin.
“What are you two waiting for? Go after him and make sure you protect him with your last bI.ood!” Mrs Smith commanded the two guards she ordered to go with Justin.
The guards ran off too. Skyler was sent to the doctor for treatment. Mrs Smith felt bad about what was happening. She hasn’t found the spy, and can’t tell who exactly attempted to kll her son and the reason for that.
And to crown it all, the person or people behind these evil deeds are under the same roof with her. Now her son’s life is endangered by Sophia’s disappearance, no one has been able to testify that she is de.ad or still alive.
She went into her room and locked herself up. She can’t cry in front of her enemies. She does trust anyone again. She should have also warned the guards to keep an eye on Alex, who knows who the rotten egg is!

Sophia opened her eyes slowly, too weak to blink, she shut it again. After somewhile, her eyes stuttered open again and she looked around her.
“Oh, thank God you are awake!” A deep voice exclaimed. A handsome face appeared and smiled most infectiously at her.
“Who are you? Where am I?” Sophia asked weakly.
“Don’t worry, you are in safe hands. I was worried that you would not make it, you keep drifting from conscious to unconscious since yesterday. Are you okay?” The young man said most tenderly.
“My head hurts. My eyes are heavy, I feel so weak and…I’m famished. My back…it is paining me, I feel like dying,” she mumbled as tears filled her eyes.
“You will be fine. I made you a herbal soup, something I learnt from my mother. You will have to sit up, drink it, it is good to quench hunger, thirst and also best for healing wounds. Come on, let me help you” the young man assured her and helped her sit up.
He gave her the bowl of soup and helped her drink it. “Easy, you will be alright. Do you feel any better than before?” The young man asked worriedly.
Sophia looked at the guy’s face, he looked gentle, looked too fresh for someone living in a house as good as wrecked, maybe responsible and respectable, and most of all, very handsome.
“What is your name?” She asked, her eyes wandered around the cracked walls. That reminded her of how her life was at that moment.
“Weston Meyers, but you can call me West,” he smiled at her. “You can lie down now and rest, you will be able to stand on your feet soon,”
“West? Are you a photographer?” She smiled painfully.
“No, but you have a clue on how much I love this…” he lifted a camera to her face and snapped once, then twice, “honestly, I have been doing this since morning, I mean…taking pictures of you, I have never seen a woman so beautiful and full of strength” he praised.
“Thank you. I meant to say that it is…kinda an old name as far as America is concerned, and the two Weston’s I know are photographers. One I read about, a United States popular lensman years back and some guy I used to know” she said.
“Who told you that Weston is an old name? There is nothing like an old name as far as I am concerned. You have not told me yours,” he raised a brow.
“Sophia Williams,” she replied sharply.
“I’m glad to meet you. Thanks for not dying on me, I would have felt bad!” He winked at her.
“Where did you find me? I mean, how did I end up with you? I remember…being shot from behind by… well, I fell at the…”
“Are you an a$sassin?” He asked, looking her straight in the eyes.
She opened her mouth, clamped it and swallowed. “Actually…”
“You are an a$sassin, judging by your dressing. I saw your gun too and it is branded with the a$sassinators logo. I’m just wondering why a beauty like yourself will indulge into such a dangerous organization, you surely don’t fear de.ath. And to think that you broke into a military zone,” he shook his head.
“Why did you help me if you knew? And what were you doing there to have found me?” She asked and gave him a blank look.
“Let’s say, I watched you climbing the wall and there was one other girl too, I don’t know, but I guessed she is maybe an enemy and she was chasing you and then caught up with you and shot you. That was what I thought. But I figured out many other possibilities on my own. I will give details some other time, just rest now, you need it,” he said and stood up.
“Thanks for everything. I owe you my life” she said and squeezed his hand.
“Don’t mention, you need rest. I will go hunt for dinner,” he stretched himself and left.
Sophia’s eyes didn’t fail to notice his height, the movement of his veins and muscles, and how wonderfully built the man is. As young and good looking as Justin.
That’s it! Just the thought of him and her heart is fluttering? What has gotten into her? He was in her dreams when she was unconscious and kept telling her to stay with him. How dare her try to compare him to this amazing man?
She did a little survey in the single room that served as her hospital. There is a sleeping bag, a traveling bag full to the brim that the zipper looked like it really suffered the owner to close it.
The walls was nothing to write home about, the painting is peeling off, the four corners are as cracked as her life and the floor is so dirty. The young man…West, he didn’t bother to remove the cobwebs falling from the ceiling.
The door hung loosely as if waiting for the slightest touch to fall down. The room looked big enough to contain two Queen sized beds and a couch.
The place that served as the hospital bed was a pavement, the guy just spread a bedsheet, and there was the pillow. He must be on his way somewhere and got distracted by her.
“Probably a deserted temple,” she mumbled. She stood up and went to look outside, she was almost blinded by sunlight directly glaring at the frontage.
There she saw a river peacefully flowing West. It was really peaceful in that place at that moment. She sat down on the floor and watched the river as if it was a television for minutes before she finally got tired and went to lie down.

“He is my best asset for now, when I am done with him, I needn’t tell you what to do,” Mr Smith said to his right hand man, Flying Dragon.
“Leave that to me, sir,” he bowed and they went into the car, Fred was already seated inside the car waiting for them, Lee guarded him and Mr Smith’s driver seated at the driver’s seat.
Fred knew what he just got himself into, a very hot soup. He is playing with fire, and still determined not to let the fire burn him to ashes.
This man thinks he is smart, he will show him that his years as an investigator has taught him a lot, and he didn’t waste six years in college for nothing.
“You don’t trust me enough to hand over my phone to me and yet, you accepted to make a deal with me,” he said and met the man’s gaze immediately he came into the car.
“Are you about to trick me? Don’t even think about doing something stupid, unless you want to be with the gods soon,” Mr Smith threatened.
“I know better than to act funny. And stop panicking about that, I love my family and I don’t want to drag anyone else into this,” Fred said earnestly.
“You don’t even have a chance, I’m giving you this phone so you can call those attorneys you sent those documents for them to delete them and never mention a word of it to other ears,” Mr Smith said and gave him the phone.
“I will send them general text messages to save us time” Fred said, and hurriedly typed a message to his friend with stenography and hoped the man doesn’t understand it.
