Nicholas stared at the man with wide eyes as he folded his fists tightly.
“Son..” Steven called with tears in his eyes as he slowly approached Nicholas.
“Don’t touch me” Nicholas said and he abruptly stopped.
A drop of tear fell from Nicholas’s eyes as he glared at Steven.
“Why? Where have you been all these years? You allowed mom to suffer under the hands of that monster” Nicholas said raising his tone a bit.
“I’ll leave you two to talk but love, please hear him out” Brittany held Nicholas’s hand.
She touched his cheek and released him before going to Valerie.
“Come, let’s give them some privacy” Brittany said and they both left..
“Start talking” Nicholas said.
If not for Brittany who asked him to hear him out, he could have left long ago..
“I didn’t abandon your mother, no! Back then, when we were young she was my first lover and I was hers too.
We loved each other very much and was planning a bright future together. Unfortunately, Xavier came into the picture.
He fell in love with your mother and since he was rich and I was poor, your mother’s family forced her to get married to Xavier.
Our love was so strong that we kept seeing each other in secret..
I knew it was wrong since she’s already married but I couldn’t stop.” Steven said and cleaned his tears..
“We kept seeing each other till one day, your mother found out she was pregnant for me. When Xavier found out, he was really furious..
He was h’llbent on klling me and that’s why your mother begged me to leave the country which I did through the help of my rich cousin..
Little did I know that Xavier turned that love to hatred.. I had no idea of what she was going through..
Believe me!, I could have flew back here and taken her away from Xavier even if it means my dé..ath.”
“When your fiancé successfully located me and she told me your mother díed years ago because of Xavier, I was heartbroken..
It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have left when she asked me to do” Steven bent down, crying like a baby.
Nicholas cleaned his tears as he stared at him. It all makes so much sense to him now..
Nicholas took slow steps towards him and then touched his shoulder. Steven looked up.
“It’s not your fault.. You were just a man in love, I’m sure mom wouldn’t like you being like this. She’ll have asked you to be happy.”
“It’s impossible.. Your mother is the only woman I’ve ever loved and I will ever love”
“I know, and… I’m sure she loves you too,,, dad” Nicholas slowly said.
Steven’s welled up with tears and wasted no time in hugging Nicholas as he began crying again.
“I’m sorry son.. I’m sorry for leaving you two behind, if you give me a chance I promise I’ll fixed what’s broken” Steven cried
Nicholas smiled as he fought back his tears.
“Brittany is right.. Being cry babies really runs in our blood” He said and Steven chuckled.
Brittany and Valerie who were watching them in the car smiled.
“See? I told you he’ll forgive him” Valerie said.
Brittany chuckled and looked back at them while smiling..
“Now his happiness is complete” She muttered..
