OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 41 – 50

Episode 48

Mir quickly glanced at me. I heard him. How could he do that when everyone was waiting for him here?

“Ahana… It’s fine. He’ll come. I know…” Mir tried to console me, but deep down, I doubted Ansh would come. If he wanted to, he would have been here.

“He won’t, Mir. I think we need to proceed without him. We have to. He can’t hurt us any more now,” I said, anger creeping into my voice. It was disheartening to be repeatedly disappointed by him.

I quickly went to the center of the room.

“Hey! I would like to thank everyone for coming here to make Ansh’s birthday special. But since everyone knows he is a workaholic and is stuck somewhere, he’ll be here in an hour,” I announced.

The crowd giggled, but deep inside, I still hoped that Ansh would show up.

“But here we have Mir and Piya, who have some news for us,” I said, and Piya gave me a meaningful look. I knew what they were excited about.

They stepped forward into the spotlight.

“Actually, we wanted Ansh to be here too, but since he is giving us a hard time, we’ll finally tell you guys. Piya and I are soon going to be proud Mom and Dad… Piya is 4 months pregnant,” I announced.

The room erupted in cheers and applause.

Everyone clapped and came forward to congratulate them. After everyone had finished wishing them, I approached Piya.

“I am really happy for both of you. I kind of guessed it,” I said to Piya.

“Haha! I wish Ansh was here too. It’s his party, and he is not here.

But Ahana… Really, thank you for doing all this. I am sure Ansh will come to his senses someday.

You have always wished for others’ happiness, and I am sure God is busy planning yours,” she said, hugging me tightly. I struggled to hold back my tears.

“Mir, now you need to take extra care, okay!” I said.

“Of course. Piya has really made me the happiest person. A dance,” Mir asked Piya. Both happily went on.

I liked watching them dance. They looked adorable. I wish they have a healthy and lovely child.

I don’t even know where Ansh is. He really ruined everything. I can’t understand how he can do all this. He has a cold heart.

Every now and then, people were asking me about him, and I stood clueless beside the door, anticipating his arrival. It was already 11 now.

I asked everyone to have dinner. Dad too seemed agitated. We tried calling him, but he didn’t answer.

Finally, Piya and I made sure every guest had their food. How can anyone leave without that? It looks so bad. Everyone seemed upset.

They all left around 11:40, leaving behind gifts for Ansh, which he may never open.

“Yes… Ma,” I said, looking at her. I had to be strong and not let my hurt emotions take over me. I know Ma would feel bad.

“We are leaving now. I am sure everything will be fine. Dad has a meeting tomorrow. Take care. Do you need anything?” I shook my head. She gave me a warm hug and then left.

“I am so sorry, Ahana. It was my plan, and it got ruined,” Piya came towards me.

“How could you say that? It’s Ansh who missed such a wonderful evening. He missed the good news.

I am really happy for you guys. Piya, you must rest now, or else the baby will blame me for creating trouble for its mother. Isn’t it?” I said, laughing.

“Seriously, Ahana… You are one such strong woman. Thank you. And you know what? The baby really likes you already,” she said, putting her hands on her growing tummy.
I smiled.

“I will see that jerk pays for this game he has played,” Mir said angrily.

“It’s fine, Mir. You need to mind your tongue. Make sure the baby gets all the right things.”

“Yup!! Ahana… Please have your food. Everyone else has left. Only your dinner is pending,” she said.
“Yup! I will… Thanks for helping me, Piya. If you need anything and have any cravings, tell me,” I said, laughing.

“Yeah, sure!” Saying so, they both left.
“Ahana!” I turned around. It was Dad.

“I am really sorry,” he said. Grandad was also standing nearby.
He too looked upset.
He continued.

“I didn’t know Ansh was like this…”
“It’s fine. He must be busy. You must go retire for the day, Dad and Grandad. You must be tired. I’ll wind up,” I said.

“Are you sure? Please have your food, Ahana,” he asked. I nodded.
Once everyone left, I was alone in the beautifully decorated living room.

With an uncut cake lying in front of me, my plate of food was left untouched. I didn’t have a proper dinner in days, but still, I didn’t feel hungry.

I don’t have any complaints with Ansh. Now I understand that he is like this and won’t change. He really ruined everything.

All my hard work and sleepless nights were wasted. I didn’t feel so insulted. I was so tired now that I melted on the sofa. It felt like the best place.
