OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 51 – 60

Episode 56

Since I couldn’t sleep, I only had a short nap of an hour or two. I woke up at 6:30.

I had to be happy today. It was my birthday, and I wouldn’t let anyone ruin it at all. I had to be cheerful and enjoy it to the fullest.

When I entered the room, the sight I saw was something I don’t get to see every day. Ansh was sleeping on the extreme corner and could fall any moment. I wonder why he slept like this.

On one hand, I couldn’t sleep, and on the other hand, this guy is having a sound sleep, making me envy him.

I tried to ignore it and move to have a shower, but just then Ansh turned, and I had to rush to catch him. Or else, he would fall. Yeah! He deserved it, but I was a bit kind towards him.

I tucked him in properly and covered him up. He grabbed my hand, and I had to free it. By the way, his grip is really firm. He was actually sleeping very deeply. I rarely see him like this.

I quickly brought my cell phone and clicked a picture of his sleeping form. One rarely sees things like this. He was clutching his pillow tightly too.

No matter how much I try, I don’t get angry at him. Although he had forgotten my special day, I sighed and went for a shower.

I dressed up in formal attire as I was headed to the office, and I packed the dress I planned to wear in the evening. I had bought it during a shopping trip on Ansh’s birthday, while he was still asleep when I left.

He truly meant what he said yesterday.

Dad and grandad were already seated at the breakfast table when I came down.

“Hey! Birthday girl. Don’t tell me you’re working today,” Dad said as I grabbed my coffee.

“Well, actually, I have to urgently review some files, and later we’re going out. I wish you could come too, Dad,” I replied.

“Yeah, I know we’ll be missing it, but you know Dad has his check-up today, and even your family won’t be able to join you. So it’s better you kids have fun today,” Dad said.

“Anyway, Ahana, where is Ansh? Is he not coming with you?” Grandad asked.

I wasn’t sure how to answer. I genuinely didn’t know.

“Um… actually, I don’t know,” I replied.

“And what present did you receive?” He asked again. I wished he would stop. I had no answers.

“Nothing yet. I’ll leave. Bye,” I said, getting up.

“I didn’t know my grandson was such a… Let it be. Happy birthday, Ahana.”

“Thanks. Take care, and please update me about the reports, Dad.”
“Sure, enjoy…”

I left soon, trying to keep my emotions in check. They were so kind, and I wished Ansh could be more like them. I was overthinking about us now.

After work, I called Piya. We had planned to go see the latest movie featuring Shah Rukh Khan. They would pick me up in 10 minutes.

They were truly enjoying themselves. I wondered if Piya had called Ansh or not. I wanted to ask but didn’t want to sound desperate.

We arrived at the theater, and Mir went to buy the tickets.

I changed into my movie outfit at the office, which had a luxurious restroom.

I wore a two-piece dress—a white cropped t-shirt that fit perfectly, and a light grey floral print midi skirt with timeless elegance.

The colorful flowers—pink, yellow, purple, and dark blue—brightened up the skirt. It hugged my curves, and I wore low-heeled sandals.

The skirt fell just above my knees and looked perfect. It even had side pockets. Since it was a crop top, a bit of my stomach was exposed, but it looked great.

With a touch of eyeliner, glossy lips, and a sweet-smelling fragrance, the look was complete.

I grabbed my pink sling bag and wore delicate jewelry—a matching bracelet and my all-time favorite watch—and I was ready to go.

Mir and Piya picked me up from the office, and Jaai was going to meet us at the mall.

“Mir,” I called him from the back seat.
“Yeah?”
“I wanted to ask you about Ansh. Is he coming?” I asked.

“Oh, already missing him. I think he’ll come any moment. Piya called him yesterday,” Mir replied.

So he knew beforehand, but why didn’t he say anything? Mir bought the tickets, and we waited for Ansh.

It was already time for the movie, yet there was no word from him. I was getting upset now, especially since Jaai had arrived on time.

“Hon, please call him,” Piya told Mir, and he nodded.

“Hey… buddy, where the heck are you? We’ve been waiting for you,” Mir asked Ansh, putting the phone on speaker.

“Hi… What are you waiting for me?” Everyone gave surprised looks at each other.

“Ansh… We were going to meet to celebrate Ahana’s birthday. How could you forget?” Mir answered, a bit annoyed.

“Oh!! I am busy now. I will not make it. You guys carry on.”

“But… Ansh, you said you would come, and we have bought the tickets too.”

“It’s okay… I’ll pay you later…”
“Heyyyy….” But he had already hung up. We were waiting for me on the couch, and I stared blankly at something.

I knew he wasn’t busy. Today, no meetings were scheduled. He was lying just to avoid us.

“Ahana….” Piya called. Her eyes showed pain, and I was in no mood to intensify it more.

“Come on, guys. Everybody knows him. He’s typical Ansh. Let’s not spoil our mood. I don’t want to miss the beginning.

Come on, Piya… Let’s buy popcorn. I am hungry now.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me. Suddenly everyone’s mood brightened.

All these circumstances had made me an excellent actress now. I was flawless in hiding my pain. I was really expecting too much.
