“Nick,what’s with your expression?”asked Jenny.
“Mh,I’ve got good news and bad news”Nicolas said.
“What is the good news?”promise asked.
“The good news is that. All of us have been selected to university”Nick said and we all jumped with joy. Am happy for my friends.
“What’s of the sad news?”asked Jenny
“Due to the course I’ve chose to study,I’ve been selected to a far university where am to study for 7 years,without returning home”Nicolas said.
At once,my whole body felt weak,my head was spinning.
Jenny and promise looked at me.
“Am happy for you”I said trying to force a smile but failed.
“But you don’t look fine”Nicolas said.
“I said am fine. Go and persue your dream”I said holding back my tears.
He took steps towards me and trued to touch me,but I took a step backwards.
“I cannot be a barrier to your future,just go!”I said . I could no longer hold the tears so I run out the compound.
Nicolas run after me.
“Sophie,we need to talk”he said holding my hand.
“Go!just go!”I kept telling as he drag me to the river.
“Go!don’t worry about me,go and study”I yelled but he pulled me in his arms
“Cry as much as you want”he said and at once,I was silent..
“Nick,it’s not that I do not want you to go. But I will miss you so much”I said.
“Sophie,I don’t either want to miss you. Should I not go?”he asked.
“No,I cannot be a barrier to your future. Just that am afraid that you will change. You will forget about me. You will meet educated girls and forget someone like me. A lot of people change when they enter university,am just afraid”I said.
“Sophie,rest assured. I love you for whom you are and I cannever love another girl apart from you. remember I promised to keep only you in my heart. Remember that I promise to remember you in everything I do”he said.
“Nick,this is for our children. God and study. Become what you want please don’t forget about me”I pleaded.
“Don’t worry Sophie. By the way,whilst am away. I want you to promise me something. Promise me that you will not look at other guys but wait for me. Promise me that you will wait for me”
“Nicolas I swore to wait for you,but am afraid that you might change,If you miss me,just look at the watch I gave you on your birthday.”
“just don’t wanna …”he put his finger on my lips,stopping me from saying more words. He looked deep into my eyes and in no time,he pressed his lips on mine and to my surprise,I responded positively.
