THE EXCHANGE

Episode 40
The Final Episode…

After Ayomide’s 14th birthday, Tunji took his family on a trip to Germany for a week of sight seeing & then they went to France. Olufunke who was 9 years old was so fascinated with the places they visited that told her mum that she would learn French so that she can live in France. They spent another week in France before finally returning to London in preparation for the children’s resumption to school. This was the best holidays they ever had & couldn’t wait to get to school & tell their friends all about it. Granny was really pleased to see the children so happy & she thanked God for bringing Tunji into their lives. She embraced Tunji like a son & said he was welcome in her home anytime he was in London. Toun could not stay bcos of the babies & had to return to Lagos with her husband.

In December, Granny & the children returned home to Lagos for the Christmas holiday, they had a picnic lunch by the pool in Tunji’s house. Granny was quite impressed by his achievements & didn’t hesitate to tell him that Toun is a girl with a special grace who adds more blessings to a home that is already blessed & Tunji readily agreed with her bcos he had been promoted twice within their brief space of five years & he was now the highest paid African in his organisation. Whenever Tunji was around, he would spend some time with Granny talking on various subjects & she did enjoyed his company. Toun’s mum, known as Grandma to the children was also around for Christmas & she was also afforded the opportunity to get to know Granny better. She actually appreciated Granny for all she did for Toun all through her trying period & she had the opportunity to express her gratitude. On the 26th of December, Granny turned 75yrs, Tunji & Toun held a birthday bash to celebrate her & it was well attended. Granny felt so happy & relieved that her family was finally in good hands & on the 29th, she passed on peacefully in her sleep. Toun & Tunji gave her a befitting burial & those who weren’t really close to the family expressed their condolences to Tunji, thinking he was Granny’s son. She was also laid to rest beside her late husband.

The house in London had to be closed up & the children were relocated back home to continue their schooling & as Olufunke had desired, she was enrolled in a French school. The house in Ikoyi was also closed up. Two years later, Grandma was also laid to rest beside her husband in Abeokuta at the age of 80 & so that generation all passed on to glory.

At 45 & 51 years respectively, Toun & Tunji were blessed with their old age baby girl & immediately she was born, Toun asked that her tubes be tied up bcos she did not want any more mistake of getting pregnant again & that was how Tunji became a father of six, four boys & 2 girls. Olufunke was the happiest; finally she had a sister. The baby girl was named Atinuke…..
