THE MIRACLE I NEED SEASON 2 : Episode 11 – 20
EPISODE 12
“Wow! I guess once a cheat is always a cheat!” Wumi exclaimed in
amazement when Eric fnished telling her about his conversation with their
parents earlier on, “So you think the Kingsley guy is the guy you fought with
at the club?” Wumi deduced.
“It makes sense, doesn’t it? I heard he was asking questions about me after
that incident. So I suppose he hooked up with Amaka to get at me. Let’s just
wait for him to get here,” Eric said as he leaned back in his seat and closed
his eyes.
“And if it is true that he connived with Amaka what are you going to do?”
Wumi asked him thoughtfully.
“Let’s just wait and see.”
“What about Kim? She is very mad at you, I guess?” Wumi asked in concern.
She had called him again while he was at the club with Kimberly last night,
and he had told her what was going on.
“I haven’t seen her this morning. I guess she needs me out of her face, so I
will just do what I need to do,” Eric said as his thoughts drifted to last night.
Prisca had given him the other car key and he had hurried after Kimberly as
she drove down to the club. He had been scared that she might end up doing
something silly to herself so he had watched her from the distance just into make sure she was safe. He had been on the phone talking with Wumi while
keeping his eyes on Kimberly, and he had watched as the guy had walked up
to her. A part of him had expected her to leave with the guy, but he had been
more than relieved when she stood up to leave. And then he had been pissed
when he noticed the guy holding her roughly. That was when he dropped the
call with Wumi and decided to step in. After that, he had watched her as she
danced and kept drinking until she became very drunk. And then she had
done something unexpected. He watched her as she looked around the club
as though she was searching for him, and when her eyes fnally met his, she
started crying and raised both hands to cover her face. That was when he
decided that it was time to take her home, so he slowly made his way
towards her while not taking his eyes away from her.
“Hello, beautiful! Why are you crying?” Eric heard a male voice ask her.
“Don’t worry about her,” Eric said as he wrapped his arms possessively
around Kimberly, “I’m very sorry I hurt you, babe. I didn’t mean to. But can we
just leave now?” Eric pleaded in Kimberly’s ears as she kept sobbing.
When she didn’t say anything, he lifted her in his arms and carried her out of
the club. When they got outside she raised her teary eyes to look into his
face, “I don’t want to see you or be close to you,” She said with a sniffe as
she tried to get out of his arms, so he gently set her down. Although she
wasn’t very steady on her feet, she raised a hand to stop him, when he tried
to grab her and keep her from falling.
Although it hurt him, he understood. After all, Chuka had warned him before
he did what he did, “Okay. I will stay out of your sight until you can stand
looking at me again. But you can’t drive in this state, can I at least take you
home?” Eric pleaded.
Kimberly shook her head, “I’ll just get a bolt ride,” she said as she turned
away from him, and leaned on the car for support before taking out her
phone from her purse.
“This is my car,” She observed as she took a closer look at the car before
turning to look at Eric, “Why are you still driving my car when you have more
expensive cars parked in your house? Why are you still in my life anyway?
You’ve not had enough fun at my expense?” She asked with a snort as she
returned her attention to her phone and ordered the ride.
Eric said nothing as he watched her. He knew he deserved whatever she said
to him. He waited until the bolt car arrived and he watched as she got into the car, “I’ll be driving behind you, so be careful,” Eric told the driver before
getting into the other car. After they safely arrived at the house, he took the
other car key from Kimberly as Prisca led her inside the house, and then
returned with the bolt driver to the club so he could bring the other car home.
By the time he returned home, Kimberly was asleep, but Prisca was waiting
for him.
“We should talk,” Prisca suggested.
Eric looked at her, and was going to decline, but decided against it. Prisca
was someone he needed on his side after all, “Okay,” he said with a nod as he
joined her in the living room.
“I don’t know what happened or why you decided to pretend to be who you
are not. But having your friend make advances at Kimberly is totally
unacceptable!” Prisca started.
“I expected you to understand Kimberly enough to protect her from things
like this, not throw her into such temptations. What if she had slept with
him?” Prisca asked with a frown of disapproval.
“We were all hoping she wouldn’t fall,” Eric said weakly.
“And what if she had?” Prisca repeated.
“He would have stopped. He wouldn’t have gone ahead with it,” Eric said.
“Can you hear yourself? And how would you expect her to feel after that?
How do you think she will feel? You toyed with her emotions and that is
unforgivable!” Prisca hissed angrily.
“You’re right. I was wrong. There is no excuse for what I did. I was selfsh. I
was too scared of getting hurt, but I ended up hurting her in the process. I’m
sorry,” Eric said with a weary sigh as he rubbed his temple where a headache
was beginning to throb.
“So what are you going to do now?” Prisca asked wearily when she saw how
upset and tired he was too.
“I don’t know. I don’t even know how to face her if she gives me the chance to
explain things to her. I love her Prisca. I really do. And I’m sorry I hurt her. I
just really wanted to know that regardless of her situation she would at least
hesitate to cheat on me. Maybe I’m just an insecure person, but after my first relationship, I’ve been unable to start another relationship with anyone else
until I met Kimberly. I was scared, especially when she said she wasn’t a
believer in the whole marriage thing. It’s not an excuse, I know,” Eric said with
a shaky sigh which made Prisca feel sorry for him.
“You do love her?” Prisca asked reluctantly.
“More than either of you can imagine,” he assured her.
“And you didn’t approach her because her stepmother is your ex?” Prisca
asked.
“I’m not that sort of person. As a matter of fact, if I had known that the frst
day Kimberly approached me, I would never have agreed to meet her again,”
Eric said without taking his eyes away from Prisca.
“I don’t know why I believe you, but I do. I will talk to Kim and convince her to
hear you out. You planned on taking her out tomorrow, right?” Prisca asked.
“Yeah. I wanted to take her to somewhere nice where I could tell her the
truth,” Eric explained.
“So why did you tell her tonight?” She asked in confusion.
“I don’t know. I just felt like she might fnd out before I get the chance to tell
her, so I guess I wanted it to be from me,” Eric explained.
“I see. I will come up with a way for her to meet you tomorrow. Don’t worry
too much,” Prisca said with a reassuring smile. Although she didn’t like what
he had done, knowing he genuinely loved Kimberly and cared for her was
enough reason to forgive him.
“If you speak with her and she insists on not seeing me, then don’t worry
about it. I’ll just have to stay away from her until she can look me in the face
again,” Eric said in defeat.
“Don’t tell me you’re giving up already?” Prisca asked with a frown.
“I’m not. But I don’t want things to be diffcult for her. It’s bad enough that I
hurt her this way, I don’t want her to be uncomfortable too,” Eric explained.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it,” Prisca assured him confdently.
Eric sighed as he returned his attention to Wumi, “Yeah, she is still mad, and
she has every right to be.”
“Why don’t I meet with her? I’m sure she is mad at me too,” Wumi said with a
wince.
“Do whatever you want to do,” Eric said indifferently.
“Isn’t that Kimberly?” Wumi asked when she sighted Kimberly walking
towards the police station. She was dressed in ripped jean trousers, a gray
polo top, and a pink tennis hat which matched her pam slippers
Eric quickly sat up and turned to look in the direction Wumi was pointing, and
he caught a glimpse of Kimberly before she walked inside the station, “Yes,
that’s Kim,” Eric said, with a nod.
“I should go and say hello to her,” Wumi said as she reached for the door
handle, “You’re not going to come with me?” She asked when Eric made no
move to get out of the car.
“No. I’ll just stay back,” Eric said as he relaxed in his seat and kept his eyes on
the road.
“Okay then,” Wumi said before getting out of the car. Wumi was dressed in a
short jean skirt which stopped slightly above her knee, and a black button?down short-sleeve shirt. On her feet, she was wearing red-colored Pam
slippers.
Wumi took in a deep breath before stepping inside the police station. She
saw Kimberly talking with the policeman at the counter, “Kimberly,” she called
cautiously, expecting Kimberly to snap her head off the next minute.
Kimberly turned to look at her, and although she didn’t have the usual smile
on her face which she always had for her, she didn’t look mad either, “Hi!”
Kimberly said stiffy.
“Can we talk for a moment?” Wumi asked, looking at her apologetically.
“I nuh ft dey repeat one thing two times, so go talk to your sister-in-law. She
go tell you wetin we tell she and your husband (I can’t repeat everything to
you again, so speak with your sister-in-law, she will relay the details of our
conversation to you),” the policeman advised.
Kimberly sighed before giving him a nod, “Let’s talk outside,” she said before
leading the way out of the station.
“I’m very sorry I lied to you. I meant no harm. I approached you only because
I wanted to know the lady my brother was in love with,” Wumi rushed to
explain before Kimberly could say anything.
“What did the policeman say?” Kimberly asked, ignoring everything Wumi had
just said.
“Please Kim,” Wumi pleaded.
“Are you going to tell me or not?” Kimberly asked in a dull tone.
Wumi sighed in resignation, “He said the men insisted they don’t know the
reason they were asked to do that to you. One Kingsley guy approached one
of them and gave him the job. He paid them generously, and promised to pay
them even more if they did a good job,” Wumi explained.
“One of the guys, he said his name was Kingsley,” Kimberly said thoughtfully.
“They all told you fake names. Those aren’t their real names,” Wumi
explained.
“I see. So do they know where this Kingsley lives?” Kimberly asked hopefully.
“No, they don’t. But the police made one of the men give Kingsley a call to tell
him they had done the job and needed the balance of their money before
posting the video clip online. So he asked them to meet him somewhere.
The
police went with the man, that way they would apprehend Kingsley,” Wumi
explained.
Kimberly sighed, “I suppose I should thank you. If you hadn’t shown up when
you did yesterday I would have been in a pretty awkward situation by now,”
Kimberly said with a solemn expression, and then paused when something
else occurred to her, “You weren’t just passing by that road by chance, were
you?” She asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.
Wumi winced as she shook her head, “I’m sorry I lied. Eric asked me to keep
an eye on you and make sure you were safe, so I was following you. I didn’t
go into the hotel with you initially because I thought Prisca was inside, but
when you said you were alone I had to join you,” Wumi explained.
He had asked her not to eat or drink anything and had also asked his sister
to look after her, why? “He thought I was in danger?” Kimberly asked before
she could stop herself.
“Well, when he knew Amaka was the one who told you about the job, he felt
Amaka was up to something. He couldn’t explain to you why he would think
so, since that would mean telling you about his relationship with Amaka and
also who he was,” Wumi explained, and Kimberly nodded in understanding.
“Why are you still here though?” Kimberly asked.
“We are waiting for them to bring Kingsley in.”
“We?” Kimberly asked, her heart skipping a beat at the thought that Eric was
somewhere around there.
“Yeah. Eric is over there in the car,” Wumi explained, pointing in the direction
of the car, and it was all Kimberly could do not to look at where she was
pointing.
“Oh! Okay,” She said scratching the back of her head. She just wasn’t
comfortable with the thought that Eric was in his car watching her.
“Kim, really Eric didn’t mean to lie to you,” Wumi pleaded.
“I’ll just wait in my car,” Kimberly said and walked away before Wumi could
say anything else.
Kimberly watched as Eric got out of his car and headed for the police station
immediately the police Hilux van pulled up in front of the station. She got out
of her car too, since this whole thing was about her, and she needed to be
there and get the information herself rather than ask Wumi any questions.
She tried not to look at Eric as they all stood in front of the police station as
they waited for the criminals to be brought out of the van. Kimberly gasped
in surprise when she recognized the Kingsley guy. Although his face was
swollen and bruised like he had been beaten, she could see the hatred and
anger in his eyes as he glared at her
“My fren move! Idi®t!” One of the policemen yelled at him and used his baton
to hit his head. Kingsley yelped in pain and raised his cuffed hand to his head
protectively as he walked into the station, while the other policeman led the
guy who had lied that his name was Kingsley.
They all trooped into the station behind them, “Madam do you know this
bastard?” One of the policemen asked Kimberly curiously.
“Not personally. We had a little issue at the club the other night,” Kimberly
said before turning to look at Eric, hoping he would step in and help her
explain the situation. Now that she knew who he was, he seemed like a
completely different person to her. And she could tell his presence there had
a lot to do with why the policemen were actively doing their job like this.
“What issue?” Another policeman asked.
Eric cleared his throat to get their attention, and naturally, everyone turned to
look at him, “He made advances at my wife, and tried forcing himself on her,
so I stepped in and I handled things by putting him in his place,” Eric said
matter of factly.
“Wait, is this about that video that was going viral on Saturday?” The only
policewoman who was seated by the counter, asked as she looked at them
all with interest, “No wonder you all look familiar,” she said with a smile at
Eric, and then glared at Kingsley.
“So because the man say make you nuh touch him wife you come plan this
kind thing for her? (So because the man refused to let you violate his wife,
you decided to set her up?)” One of the police guys asked rudely.
As they were talking the phone of one of the policemen rang and he quickly
picked it up and moved to the side, but not before they heard him refer to the
person at the other end of the line as “oga”. Soon he returned and scratched
the back of his neck awkwardly, “Make una go, we go take care of this
criminal,” he said to them, making Eric raise a questioning brow since he
could guess what had just happened.
He hated to use his name to instill fear in people, but he wasn’t going to
hesitate in using it this time, “Hey! Look here,” he said in a cold and arrogant
tone which surprised Kimberly.
“Do you know who I am? Maybe I didn’t introduce myself to you properly. I am
Eric Tunde Obasan. The only son of Chief Obasan, and my wife here is
Kimberly Abamba, the daughter of senator Abamba! I don’t care who called
you right now, but you’re going to call them back and tell them that this
young man here isn’t leaving here. He is going to be prosecuted, whether any
of you like it or not!” Eric snapped angrily startling every one of them.
“This is our job, we just said go, we will handle it,” Another policeman said,
trying to cover-up for his colleague.
“You are Chief Obasan’s son?” Kingsley who had been about to gloat, asked
in h®rror as he looked at Eric.
That bch hadn’t mentioned anything about
Kimberly’s husband being from such a wealthy home, so what was this? As a
matter of fact, she had said he was a nobody who wanted to climb to the top
using Kimberly. Had she tricked him?
“You shut up!” The frst policeman said as he used his cap to wipe the sweat
on his forehead. He was feeling very nervous now. Who was he to listen to?
His superior who had just asked him to release the senior policeman’s son,
or chief Obasan’s son?
“I should probably call aunty,” Wumi who had been quiet the whole time said
when she saw the indecisiveness on his face. She took out her phone and
dialed their Aunty’s number, while Kimberly watched them nervously.
Honestly, if she had been alone here she would have left the moment the
policeman asked them to leave. But seeing how both Wumi and Eric weren’t
ready to leave, she decided to stand her ground too.
“Hey! Don’t call anybody if you don’t want us to…”
“To what? I dare you to stop her or touch her,” Eric said in a challenging tone.
“Good morning Aunty… Yes, we are at the station right now, and they are
trying to get us to leave so they can release the culprits… Okay, aunty, we are
waiting,” Wumi said before hanging up.
“She said she is coming,” Wumi whispered to Eric before crossing both hands
in front of her as though daring the offcers to do anything stupid.
“Okay, let’s stay outside while we wait for her,” Eric suggested and turned to
leave, but his eyes met Kimberly’s eyes instead.
“Let’s talk outside,” Kimberly said coolly as she walked outside.
“I need to ask him if my… If Amaka is involved in any of this,” Kimberly said
the moment they got outside. Both Wumi and Eric noticed that she didn’t
bother to look at either of them as she spoke.
“Yes, she is,” Eric said confidently.
“How can you be so sure? Don’t use your bitterness towards her as a
yardstick to…” She stopped talking when Eric handed her his phone, and her
eyes widened in surprise when she saw the picture of Amaka walking in and
out of a hotel with Kingsley. Tears gathered in her eyes, as she fnally had to
admit to herself that her father’s wife had tried to hurt her this way. She
blinked off the tears as she returned the phone to Eric and squared her
shoulder.
“Let them go,” Kimberly said, surprising both Eric and Wumi.
“What?” They asked in unison.
“You heard me. Let them go. I appreciate your help, but things would become
messy if the police should probe in further and fnd out my stepmother was
involved in this.
It could cause serious problems for my father’s political
ambition. He loves her and this could really hurt him too. I’m not sure I want
him to know about any of this. So just let them go. I will resolve my issues
with Amaka myself,” Kimberly said and walked away before either Eric or
Wumi could say anything else.
