WHAT A JOURNEY: Chapter 1 – 20
She was staggering like a drunkard who drank more than he used to, dirt all over her body as if she just came out of a pit of shit, her hair looked like it exploded in a microwave, her left shoe was torn beyond recognition and repair, her face has no definite definition, it’s just in a freaking god damn mess.
She staggered to the net demarcating the basketball court from the tiled road, she held the net like her life depended on it, like if she let go off the net her death follows.
I heard Ruby whistle with his mouth, he only does that for three reasons, to signify the end of our street match, or to inform the guys about the presence of an extremely hot girl or to tell everyone that crazy trouble is lurking around.
I calculated immediately, the game has already ended, there is no hot girl around and Kira and her friends are not yet back, theirs is only one reason that can explain his whistle, the girl.
The rest of the team raised their heads to know what the whistle is all about and when they saw her, they burst into laughter. I didn’t see anything funny, I only see a hurt girl, someone who has had an extremely bad day.
Although everyone keeps saying she’s jinxed or something but I find it hard to believe, there is no such thing as a ¢urse, I never believed in it and I won’t start now, I can only say that she gets bad luck sometimes.
I used to see her in school, but after she broke a toilet bowl and two sinks, which I have no idea how that happened, the principal asked her to stop coming to school “…..Before you wreck the whole school, stop coming here, go home and live your jinxed live and stop jeopardizing innocent students’ lives.” He had yelled at her in front of the whole school, and she left and I haven’t seen her again until today. Well that was a month ago.
As she was staggering to get balanced or to be able to walk properly, I looked few feet away from her and dmn she’s gonna fall, there’s an opening on the net , a big opening and with the force she was using on the net, I think she will fall into the court. I tried to warn her but before I could speak, she was already rolling into the court, my team were now laughing hysterically, I was tempted to yell at them to stop but I couldn’t for fear of being shamed too. So, I just watched her, tears, crazy hot tears flowed from her eyes like a river, I was so tempted to bend down and clean them and assure her that everything is gonna be alright, but I just stood there watching them make fun of her, I was afraid to speak for her.
“jeez, look what the cat dragged in” I heard that high peached annoying voice of Kira.
“what cat, where’s the cat, what did the cat drag in” the cute Kiwi asked looking around. let’s just say this one is the dumbest girl I’ve ever seen, but funny too.
“Kiwi, it’s just a figure of speech” Bethany said to Kiwi.
“oh ok” she said feeling slightly embarrassed.
Kira bent towards the girl.
“hey jinxed bch, what are you doing here, I thought you’ve been warned to stay away from everyone in this Estate hmm” she asked as she stretched forth her hand to touch her face but Kiwi stopped her.
“Kira don’t! my mum said that if you touch a jinxed person then the cur$e will be transferred to you”
“like I was going to touch this dirty cur$ed excuse of a human being, even if I was going to touch her, I’ll only end up plucking her eyes” Kira said with utmost disdain.
“I also heard that if you insult and make fun of a jinxed then the curse will be transferred to you” I heard myself say, I just couldn’t take it anymore, the girl’s cries was breaking my heart, how can they be making her cry so much and not feel any atom of remorse.
“Dave where did you hear that trash from” Kiwi asked with her cute voice, seriously I almost asked this girl out if not that she became friends with this devil, she just manages to drive me insane with her cute voice, her cute face, her dumb ¢razy self, her…. David! Snap out of it.
“you don’t need to know but it’s true” I managed to reply with a soft voice I didn’t want to use. Yep that’s the effect she has on me.
“well in that case I apologise, I’m sorry miss jinxed for mocking you” she said to the girl, and I smiled inwardly at her innocence. She stood up and turned to Kira.
“what” Kira asked
“well do you wanna get cursed, if no then apologise” She said to her
“whatever, sorry jinxed”. Kira said dryly and walked to Michael.
“well I owe no one any dmn apology” Michael said and left with Kira and the two girls followed, but Bethany turned back and looked at the girl with an extremely sad look of ‘I’m sorry’ before she walked out. I guess this one still has a heart.
“neither do I” ruby said and followed them.
“dude you coming, cause I’m atta here” Henry asked me as he walked away too with the rest of the team.
I looked at the girl, she looked so tired, so I decided to help.
“no, you go ahead, I’ll catch you later” I said to him. He looked at me then the girl, then me again, shook his head before walking out.
I turned to the girl and stretched forth my hand for her.
“common, get up”
She stared at me like I’ve gone bunkers.
“hey, I know I’m cute and all but you really don’t have to stare that much” I tried to make her laugh by my words but no, she was just sitting on the floor staring at me as if I’ve grown a dk on my forehead.
“don’t you speak, are you mute” I asked her. She stared.
“don’t you want to go home”
“I don’t need your help, thanks” she said as she struggled to get up but unfortunately, her right shoe lace got hooked on something on the ground, I looked down to know if I can unhook it but to my greatest astonishment, the shoe lace wasn’t hooked on anything, it was just on the ground but still hooked, but to what, this is insane. I hovered my hand on the ground to know if there is an invisible nail there but I felt nothing.
“let me go you stupid ground” she yelled at the ground as if it can hear it.
“ok, you wanna go through the hard way, fine let’s go through the hard way, if you look at me very well, you will notice that I’m not in the mood for this shit right now, I’ve gone through a lot today so don’t make me unleash my anger on you” she yelled and sprang up immediately but the shoe lace was still on the floor, what the he.ll! She forcefully dragged the shoe lace only for the shoe lace to release immediately making her bum land fiercely on the floor with a loud thud, she burst into another round of tears, I wanted to laugh but I decided against it. I ran to her.
“hey are you ok” I asked. She nodded like a baby.
“do you now think you need help” she nodded again.
I bent down and swooped her into my arms, bridal style and I walked out of the court.
