ALL FOR NOTHING…
Episode twenty five
During my second year in school, the big news came that uncle Kayode was dead. The news was really shocking as I had least expected.
I had call mama that day to know how she was doing when she broke the news to me.
“Ayomide your uncle Kayode is dead.” Mama said to me over the phone.
“What happened? How come?” I asked.
“He had a heart attack three days ago and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors tried all they could to save him but he couldn’t make it. Your aunt Ifeoluwa is here at our place. Their son Darasimi is no where to be found and it’s really painful.” Mama said.
“May his gentle soul rest in peace.” I said.
“When is the funeral?” I asked.
“No date yet. We are still waiting for Dara to come so we could start planning his funeral. He is the first son and his presence is highly needed.”
“Alright mama, please keep me posted on any updates regarding the funeral.” I said.
Lola and I had been having issues and it was because of Toyin. I was beginning to get confused because both girls were special to me. I had called Lola up that day and she had heard Toyin’s voice in the background.
“Who is there with you?” She had asked.
“It’s Toyin, she is here in the states too.” I replied.
“I can see you have got someone to keep you company over there.” She said.
“Yes dear, Toyin had been visiting me since my days in my first year. She is the only friend I have here.” I replied.
“Is that the reason you don’t come online to chat with me? I noticed you only come to drop offline messages.
“Why didn’t you tell me Toyin was close to you there? At least it would have relieved me the stress of thinking you are alone and need someone to talk to.” She said.
I could feel that she was speaking with so much emotion already.
“It’s not like that Lola. I didn’t see it to be necessary to tell you about it. That was why I didn’t say anything about it.” I replied.
“You are lying Ayo. It’s obvious you still love Toyin. Just admit it.” She said.
“Lola, it’s not what you think.” I said but the call got disconnected and we couldn’t continue.
“That must be Lola. How is she?” Toyin asked.
“She is fine.” I replied. I was already feeling guilty and wasn’t comfortable.
“Are you still spending the weekend at my place?” She asked.
“Yes I will.” I replied. Toyin had invited me to a family dinner at her place. She had earlier told me that she still had feelings for me and will do anything to have what we once had.
“I know I was unfair to you back then but I hope we could start afresh this time around.” She had said.
The truth is, I still had feelings for Toyin especially after meeting her again. I thought those feelings had been killed and buried but I was wrong.
That evening as we took a stroll down the meadow which led to the train station, I grabbed Toyin by the hand. We had gone to see a movie and was returning home. All through the movie, she had rested her head on my shoulder.
“Tell me you don’t feel anything for me anymore.” She said looking into my eyes. She reminded me of what had happened when we had also gone to see a movie back at Utti.
“Toyin, I can’t lie to you, I still have feelings for you.” I replied honestly.
“Then why don’t we start again? This time around no more childish behavior. I promise to trust you now and never doubt you again.” She said.
While going back to the train station, I grabbed her hand.
She turned to face me with head slightly below mine. Her eyes were the same beautiful eyes I once stared at. For the past one year, she had been really good to me. She had brought back to life those feelings I thought were dead.
“Hold me.” She said taking my hands and wrapping them round her waist.
I was kind of shy but I had to.
“How do you feel?” She asked.
“I love you Toyin.” I replied.
“I love you more Ayo.” She replied.
She gently raised her head and then we settled for a kiss. It was passionate unlike the one we had about four years ago.
By the time we detached our lips, it was a different feeling. She took my hand and then we headed towards the train.
When we got to my place, she reminded of my promise to go with her to her family the following day.
As I looked at Toyin that night, I agreed that she was indeed a beautiful lady. She came to me and asked me to dance with her. She was wearing a pair of leggings and a mini blouse. She looked really wonderful.
“Stop staring at me like that.” She said smiling.
“You look wow!” I replied.
“You like it?” She asked.
“I love it.” I replied.
We danced and as we danced to the cool music on the music player which she connected to her mobile phone, the situation was becoming out of control.
“It’s okay Toyin, let’s end it here before things get out of hand. I’m losing my self control.” I replied.
“Me too, I love you so much Ayo. I really do.” She replied.
She kissed me on the cheek and left to sleep in the room.
After she left, I took my phone to see if Lola had dropped any message for me but she hadn’t and she didn’t.
I was in love with Toyin but I still wanted Lola to be around. She seemed to understand me better than Toyin. I decided to drop a message for her but I didn’t know what to type. After typing and deleting so many times, I finally got a message.
“Lola, please reply my msg. I am caught in a web with Toyin, the feelings of old came back. I want you to know because I need your advice. Hope you are doing great? I miss you. Have a good night rest and sweet dreams.” I was happy and sent it to her.
I was happy but had no idea that God’s plan for me was more than what I was thinking.
“I love you Toyin.” I whispered to myself..
