?Brown skin girl?
?Chapter fourteen
With her bag hung on her left shoulder, she made her way out of the school. She couldn’t help but smile at Ryan’s attitude earlier that day.
Seriously?? Why was he even claiming so tough? So, he would rather not ask her out than have her laugh at him.
She rolled her eyes mentally and adjusted her bag on her hand…
She had to go to Becky’s house and tell her of her latest discoveries, whether she would appreciate it or not.
She also needed to apologise for her stupidity. Of course, Becky would be so angry at her for messing her life up. Great!
She stepped out and the flash of a red car reached her sight.
Becky.
She came? She came? She came!. Trisha was so excited, so Becky was not angry with her anyway.
She saw Becky leaning on the car, busy with her tab and felt the urge to run up to her and give her a huge bear hug. She couldn’t hide the wide smile on her face as she walked out of the school, towards the car.
Becky looked up and saw Trisha coming towards her. Her lips formed a thin line and she got into the car, turning on the ignition.
Trisha frowned, reducing her pace. She didn’t like the look Becky gave her. And why did she get into the car? She furrowed her brows. Wasn’t she here for her?
Oh right! She’s here for Ryan.
The furrow in her brows deepened when she heard the ignition of the car go on.
Sht! Dmn Becky! She was not going to let her drive off.
She ran towards the car and just as Becky was about to make a move for the road, Trisha jumped in front of the car and stood there.
“Well, hit me down if you can!” She shouted.
Becky narrowed her brows in annoyance. She hit the horn for Trisha to get out of her way. But Trisha was more stubborn than that.
Becky angrily whined down her glass and tilted her head out to look at Trisha.
“Get off the road or I’ll run you down!” She threatened.
Trisha felt her vision grow cloudy as tears blurred her sight.
“I dare you, Becky! I dare you!” She yelled.
The attention they were drawing to themselves didn’t even seem to bother them.
Becky bit her lower lips.
She tried her best to keep the tears behind her lids. Trisha wasn’t making it any easier.
She fired the engine threatingly but Trisha held her ground.
She hit her horn effortlessly for Trisha to get out of the way until she gave up.
With a sigh, she switched off the ignition. She stayed in the car, staring at Trisha, who stared right back at her, with teary eyes.
Becky took her sunglasses and put it on, so that when the need arises to force some stubborn tears back to their abode, it won’t be too hard..
She got off and stood hands akimbo, not taking her eyes off Trisha.
Trisha let out a breath of relief. There was a debate in her mind whether Becky would run her down as she threatened or not. But she knew Becky wouldn’t do such, even if she was angry at her for spoiling her relationship.
She took slow steps to Becky and stood few inches away from her, wearing her most courageous look. She held her hands at her back and danced with her legs.
They stayed that way for few minutes, looking at anywhere else but themselves.
“What are you doing here?” They asked at the same time.
“What am I doing here? This is my school!” Trisha answered hilariously.
“What am I doing here? My job!” Becky answered coldly.
“Yeah, right.” Trisha said, the disappiontment the her voice failing to stay hidden. Of course! Becky wasn’t there because she missed her or because she wanted to say goodbye and stay out of her life. Her job!
“Your dad told you to stay away from me.” Becky reminded.
Trisha scoffed. “Yeah right! I’m not always obedient.” She said with a roll of her eyes.
Becky hid a smile. Obviously.
“What if he comes and sees us now?” She asked.
“Not happening. I told him that I’ll be back home late and he shouldn’t bother coming to pick me up.” Trisha said.
“Were you expecting me to be here?” Becky asked
“No, but actually, I planned on coming to your place.” Trisha admitted and Becky nodded slightly.
Trisha took half a step forward, studying her hands in front of her.
“Becky, I’m so sorry, I didn’t expect…”
“Don’t.” Becky cut in, raising a hand.. “I’m actually grateful you told him. If we were going to get married, it won’t be necessary keeping secrets from each other. He would have known sooner or later. And later would have been worse.”
Trisha studied her face for any sort of emotion, but she found nothing.
Dmn! Becky was so good at hiding. She must have done a lot of hide and seeks when she was younger.
“Yeah, but I still feel guilty.” She confessed, looking down at her shoes.
“Would you have preferred us getting married and then him finding out and then… Boom… A divorce?? I really owe you… Big time.” Becky said. “I didn’t even tell him because I’m secret and we don’t tell. I never knew that he wouldn’t want to have anything to do with me if that was my job.” She said casually.
Trisha thought for a while.
“If situations changes, would you come back to us?” She asked softly.
Becky’s features softened
“I never left Trisha… He broke up with me, I didn’t with him. Besides, its ok to be scared… I put his only treasures’s life in danger…”
“You didn’t put my life in danger!” Trisha cut in. “I wonder how these past weeks would have been without you.” She looked down and lowered her voice.
“You made my life in California. Minus you, the reason for leaving Detroit would never have been accomplished.” She confessed and began to pace.
“Dad thinks he’s trying to protect me but Minus you… My life makes absolutely no sense.” She said, letting out the tears in her eyes
“You took my mind off my mum these past weeks. I can’t really remember when last I cried for my mum.” She admitted. “Yes and I mean it, although I don’t enjoy admitting it out loud.” More tears.
“Becky, you! You gave me a reason to really want to go to school. You put some fun in my forsaken life. Dad doesn’t understand but minus you…” Trisha stopped and looked at Becky, feeling free to let out the waterfall. “… I’d want me dead.”
It was then that Becky realized that a tear had escaped her eyes, and another and another.
“I know that you’re not the perfect example of a mother but you are exactly the type of mother I need. You’re always looking out for me.” She cried
“Before my dad came back, I noticed what you do every night when you think I’m asleep… You watch me sleep…. Yeah, I caught you couple of times. You put off my TV, you switch off my light, you adjust my covers.”
“I know you love me, Becky. I know you do. Do you think I want to jump into danger because I’m so brave? No way… I want to do it because I am sure you won’t let me get hurt.”
Becky placed a palm over her mouth to stop a whimper from escaping.
“You told me that you’re not sure you have a heart but I want to tell you that you do… A huge heart full of love and although you don’t want it to show, its still there.”
“You’re the toughest person I’ve ever met. The coolest. You have no Idea how much impact you’ve made in my life, Becky. And I… I… I just don’t want you to go…” Her voice trailed off as she gave into the cries she kept in her throat.
Becky was not stronger than the atmosphere. The tears in her eyes had no restriction as the flowed freely looking for greener pastures on her jaw.
All Trisha said was so true. The love she had for Trisha was even more than the one she had for her father. She was not a mother yet but Trisha was her daughter.
Trisha pulled herself together and stood to face Becky.
“If anyone told me that I would get this bonded to you last three months, I would have doubted. But now, you’re like a vein in me…” She said. “…mom.” She added.
Becky’s eyes widened as she heard the title fall freely out if Trisha’s mouth. Her jaw dropped and before she could see it coming, Trisha crushed her with a hug.
The feeling in Becky’s chest was called joy. She returned the huge slowly and let out her tears on Trisha’s hair.
It was a moment she was sure she wouldn’t forget in a long long time.
Trisha tightened her grip on her. She couldn’t even imagine life without her. She had gotten so bonded in just some weeks.
They stayed that way, enjoying the comfort of their confessions.
Becky pulled back slowly, holding Trisha’s shoulders.
She gave her a sweet smile and reached beneath her glasses to clean the tears that remained on her cheeks.
“Ok… Ok… This is so touching. This is unbelievable.” She said quickly, looking away and taking off her glasses to clean her tears appropriately.
Trisha giggled a little.
She felt like she had poured everything out of her.
“I thought you were so tough.” She teased and Becky laughed heartily.
“Yeah right.!” She said.
They spent the next few minutes cleaning their tears and brightening up.
Becky folded her arms.
“Hungry? We could go eat in a restaurant.” She offered.
Trisha thought about it for a moment
“I thought my dad told you to stay away from me.” She said jokingly.
Becky scoffed.. “I’m not always obedient.” She copied and they laughed, getting into the car.
??????????????
“You what??” Becky exclaimed in unbelieve.
“You should have see me… And I kicked him into the office and locked him in… Ha!” Trisha boasted, feeling so good to narrate the day’s experience to Becky.
“Tell me you’re just kidding and that you didn’t go to eavesdrop and that you didn’t get caught.!” Becky said expectantly.
“No kidding, Becky. You should have seen his face… He was like… ‘I’m on fire’ and I was like ‘you should get quenced’ and I was like ‘vuuummmm…’ And he was like ‘arrrrrrghhhh’… And I was like… Take that you bad guy.. Gbish! Bang! Punch! Kick!… And I caught him by the collar and rose him up with one hand and he was like… ‘Please, I’m so sorry o mighty agent.'” Trisha demonstrated excitedly, changing her voice from time to time.
Becky rolled her eyes
“Now, you’re exaggerating.” She said and Trisha laughed.
“Yeah, I am. All the punch and kicks didn’t happen.” She said
Becky felt her forehead in worry.
“Trisha, we talked about this. I told you to abort mission.!” She scolded
“Hey, I almost heard what they were planning for talent hunt.” She defended taking a sip of her juice.
“But you didn’t! Urrrgh! Why the fuck do you have to be so annoyingly stubborn??” She exclaimed, suddenly losing her appetite.
“Look, at least I found out that they planned to carryout their plans during talent hunt… Throw Ryan in a river and stuff.”
Becky looked at her like she was insane.
“Throw Ryan in a river??” She repeated
Trisha nodded
Becky thought of it…
“Does that even make sense? What else did you hear?” She asked
“Wow… Look who was against my bravery.” Trisha said cockily.
Becky rose a brow at her.
“Well, nothing much, That was all I heard anyway.” She said.
Becky stroke her jaw in thought…
“Is there any way I can come to the party?” She asked.
“Well… I dunno… We are permitted to invite our friends. I don’t know about moms.” Trisha said stressing the mom.
“Oh come on… I’m not looking like a mom, I look young enough to be 17. Right?” Becky said and wore a cute look.
Trisha laughed at her
“Yeah right, you look too mature right now. With your makeup and your hair and your dressing… But we’ll work on that.” Trisha said excited.
“Great.”
“You really want to come so low to do this? Boys my age will even try to ask you out that day.” Trisha said, raising her brows.
“I’m undercover Trisha. Everything I do is actually lower than my standards… And besides, if they’re planning to end it that day… You can’t do it on your own.” Becky said with a slight smile.
Trisha gasped.
“So you’re gonna let me do it after all… Thank you so much, Becky.” She said, jumping in her seat. Becky rolled her eyes
“Yeah whatever..” Becky said with a roll of her hand. “You really need to be careful. You know you’re going against you’re dad’s orders.”
Trisha nodded. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine on my own.” She said.
Becky smiled.
“I owe you, you know? Big time! I don’t know what I would have done without you in the mission.” She said calmly.
Trisha smiled sheepishly
“Oh stop… I wanted to. Besides, I wouldn’t want Ryan to die.” She said quite flattered.
Becky rose a brow in understanding.
“Of course! Ryan…” She said teasingly.
Trisha cheeks colored slightly and she couldn’t hold back a shy smile.
“Stop, Becky.”
???????
Trisha got into the house and shut the door. She made her way straight to the wine cabinet. She pretended not to see Damian in the sitting room. She opened the cabinet and took out a bottle of red wine, Becky thought her to drink. She poured some for her self into a glass, all the while humming a beat.
Damian stood up to face her..
“Hey, Peanut.” He said so she could notice his presence.
“Hi, Mr Robbins” Trisha said.
Damian spread his arms in hrror
“Mr Rob… Look at me, Trisha.” He said unbelievably.
“I don’t want to! Don’t bother me dad.” She snapped, and sipped on the drink in her hand, pressing her phone.
Damian exhaled softly and went to meet her.
“Trisha is this about Becky?” He asked, knowing fully well it was.
Trisha rolled her eyes and concentrated on her phone.
“No, its about the cat I met last night.” She said sarcastically.
Damian stopped himself from groaning.
He looked round the sitting room for what to say.
Trisha headed for the stairs.
“Trisha wait.” He said.
She turned to look at him.
“What dad?” She snickered
“I’m sorry you had to see all that this morning.” He apologised looking down
“I’m not a child. Its not a nightmare.” She said, surprisingly sounding like Becky’s cold self.
“Ok…” Damian said nervously
He rubbed the back of his neck
“Ok… I’m sorry I was hard on you…” He corrected
Trisha scoffed.
“You know what, dad? I’m tired. It was a long day today, and I need a nap!” She said.
“What’s wrong, Trisha? I thought you never liked Becky.” He said worriedly.
Trisha laughed sadly and studied her dad for a while, with an amused look on her face.
“You really think you’re doing me good by breaking up with her?” She said rhetorically. “You’re bringing misery into my life, dad.”
Damian furrowed his brows in understanding.
“I’m trying to protect you.” He said softly
“From what?” Trisha snapped. “Becky is not dangerous.”
“She’s not. Your connection to her brings you danger.! You have no idea the magnitude of her job.” He said, raising his voice a little higher.
Trisha shook her head.
“Becky serves America. A loyal citizen.! If she works as a secret agent, I think she’s brave and not prone to danger. She’ll be saving lives and stopping villains, she’s my superhero! You feel you want to protect me but I think I’m more protected with her around.” She cried.
Damian’s features softened a bit and he lowered his voice, taking slow steps towards her.
“Trisha… I just want you to be safe.” He placed a hand on her shoulder. “I trusted her to take care of you when I needed to live and instead… She put you in danger. I don’t want anything to happen to my peanut! Just stay safe. I don’t want to lose you.”
Trisha’s expression turned into a glare.
She hit off his hand from her shoulder and glared fully at him. Damian wore a surprised look.
“No offense dad…” She said “But I never knew you were such a coward. You want to let go of the love of your life because you’re scared? You love Becky so much to leave Detroit and this… Stuff!..makes you want to leave her.”
Trisha shook her head vigorously.
“This isn’t you dad! My dad, Damian Robbins owns the trait that I inherited… We are brave… Confident… Fearless… Not scared and cowardly.”
There was a short pause. A thick silence. Exchange of glances.
Trisha sighed.
“I can’t change your mind, dad… But I won’t forgive you if you’re decision ends my fun!” She dropped and walked away.
