?Brown skin girl?
?Chapter Sixteen?
Trisha studied the school while still seated in the car that night. She had still not come over the dream she had the previous night and that day in school, everyone noticed that she was so clingy to Ryan.
The dream scared the spirits out of her. When she woke up from such horrid dream, she couldn’t sleep again. She was just shivering with fright.
But she wasn’t scared that she was killed in the dream, she was scared that Ryan was killed.
What she did the remaining hours of the dawn was to practice how to freed herself from any kind of grip so that she would use it when it came in handy.
She had told Becky about the dream after school and Becky assured her that it would be fine.
Sighting the school, the fear from the dream came back to her.
Becky was working on something in her laptop. She had gone round the school to survey the environment and placed some cameras around so she would be alerted when something weird happened.
She suspected that a helicopter would have something to do with that night, since they were planning to throw Ryan in a river.
Her eyes furrowed in concentration as the views from the four sides of the school clarified in her laptop.
“Bam!” She said victoriously. Perfect views.
She stole a glance at Trisha, whose face was thrown out of the window towards the school. She sighed.
“Trisha..” She called and Trisha turned to look at her.
“If you’re scared please, abort mission, I’ve got this.” She repeated what she had been saying since the noon.
Trisha shook her head stubbornly
“No! I’m not scared for me, I’m scared for him! I don’t want anything to happen to him and I want to make sure nothing does.” She said strongly.
Becky nodded, slowly taking Trisha’s hands in hers. She looked into her eyes.
“Trisha… Do you trust me?” Becky asked sternly.
Trisha nodded in affirmation..
“Totally.” She said
Becky smiled. “Then let’s go show them that Ryan’s taken and they can’t take him!” She said and Trisha copied her smile.
They hopped out of the car, with Becky carrying her laptop.
Becky’s red hair was packed in double pigtails decorating it with a bow and she wore a girly yellow dress.
Trisha stiffled a laugh..
Becky’s nose scrunched up at her “What?”
“You look unbelievable! You don’t look over 15.” Trisha commented.
Becky rolled her eyes roughly. She didn’t believe she would be dressed like a child to guard either.
“Yeah whatever… And you look over 50!” She said.
Trisha gasped and hit Becky’s shoulder.
“You take that back!” She said.
“I already said it.” Becky said with an unconcerned shrug.
Trisha slapped her forehead.
“Whatever! We better get going.” She said and they walked into the school.
The music was loud in the hall and there was already a crowd in the dance floor, expressing themselves.
“Is this supposed to be a party? I thought you said its a talent hunt?” Becky shouted into Trisha’s ear over the sound of the music.
“It is! They just want to shake things up.” Trisha replied.
Becky scanned the area and spotted a free table on one dark edge of the hall.
“Trish.” She called and pointed over to the table.
Trisha looked to the direction she was pointing.
“I’ll be there. Go look for him.” She said.
Trisha nodded..
“Put it on.” Becky ordered putting her own Bluetooth in her ear.
“Oh, yeah..” Trisha said and did the same. She turned to go but Becky held her.
“Be careful” she said.
Trisha nodded slightly and went into the crowd.
Becky watched her go before making her way to the spot she found.
She sat down and opened the laptop on her table..
The coasts were clear… There was nothing unusual.
She was still concentrated on it when a young kid of about 16 approached her.
“Sup girl.” He said.
Becky looked up with disgust and gave him a killing glare.
He shivered and backed off slowly.
Becky rolled her eyes. Just great!.
Trisha met the three of the boys just where they planned to meet that night.
“Hi guys.” She greeted.
“Oh hi, Tris… You’re late.” Kyle said as she took her seat on the table.
Trisha scoffed.
Yeah right, I was here earlier
“Yeah, got caught up with some stuff.” She said lied honestly.
They nodded at her.
“Ok… Guys, I won’t want to be bored or lonely or left alone so please… Would you guys not… Leave me?” She said nervously.
They gave her wierd looks.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be right by you.” Ryan assured. Jack nodded and said
“Even if we leave, it won’t be up to fifteen minutes…”
“Don’t leave at all.” Trisha cut in a little too authoritatively.
“Ok ok ok ” Jack surrendered.
“Yeah, please” she said. “Let’s just be together as a gang we are.” She added with a fake smile.
“Em… Trisha? Did someone threaten you?” Ryan asked his brows furrowed in concern..
Yes! Someone threatened me about you.
“No no not at all! I just… You know… Its my first event in this school so… ” She covered.
They nodded in understanding
“Oh, yeah. Good.” Ryan said stupidly.
“No one messes with our Trisha.!” Jack said ruffling Trisha’s hair..
“Stop it.” Trisha protested tilting her head away.
“Stop, you’re messing it up.” Ryan said..
“Oh I’m sorry, lover boy… Its her hair not yours.” Jack said cockily.
Trisha hid a smile. She caught hold of Jack’s hand that was making its way to her head again and pinned it the the table.
“That’s enough, Jack.” She said strictly.
“Ok ok… I’m sorry, mom.” Jack joked freeing his hand.
Kyle and Ryan laughed at the joke.
Trisha rolled her eyes at it.
She would have just rephrased everything. Jack and Kyle could go wherever they wanted, Ryan was the main. It was Ryan she didn’t want to leave her sight.
Soon, the event started.
They watched, laughed, shook their heads in disappointment at the performances of some of them. Waiting for their turn, because it was first personal presentations before the groups in the school.
Trisha was really enjoying her self. She really loved their company.
The teachers and members of the staff sat on the high table in front of the hall.
They clapped as a boy finished presenting a spoken word and left the stage.
“That was quite touching.” Trisha said
“Yeah, I bet his heart must have broken a number of times.” Ryan said carelessly.
Trisha punched his arm playfully and laughed, oblivious to the redness of Ryan’s face.
What was funny?
Ryan looked at his friends and they began a communication with their eyes.
Trisha concentration was on the stage… On Chloe and Ruby, as they started their dance.
The smile dropped from her face, she would have been a third party in the dance, it didnt really look so cool with just two people.
She looked around, people didn’t look interested in the dance they were doing. Some even booed.
She frowned as she saw Ruby lose some confidence and the smile on Chloe’s face fell. They were still dancing either way.
She should be with them up there. They should eat the shame together if there was any and share the glory together if there was any.. That’s what friends are for
Her lips tightened and she turned to the gang.
“I’ll be right back!” She said standing.
“Huh?”
She looked at Kyle trustfully.
“Kyle, Promise me you three will stay stuck in your seats.” She said questioningly.
Kyle nodded. “Gangy promise.” He said and she nodded.
She took on last look at Ryan. Then at Jack
“Just watch me.” She said and rushed to the side of the stage.
Ruby and Chloe were still trying to gather morale and ignore comments when they noticed a third party with them on the stage. They exchanged confused glances as Trisha danced along with them.
She gave them a wink that read ‘I gatcha back’ and it seemed like their confidence returned.
The booing ceased and interest was built in the students.
Some started clapping, some cheering and others just looking amazed.
The girls were enjoying themselves on the stage dancing what they had rehearsed and a bit of what they did not.
Soon, they were done and everyone stood up to cheer them.
They happily scurried out of the stage.
When they where out of the lights, they stopped.
They just stood looking at Trisha who had her head down waiting for the worse.
She opened her mouth to speak but she was enveloped by a warm hug.
She returned the hug to Chloe and Ruby joined in.
“I’m so sorry, girls, I…” She started when they pulled away.
“Shhh…” Ruby hushed softly. “That’ll be for later.”
“Yeah, right now, I think the boys need you.” Chloe said.
Trisha smiled and nodded.
“Thank you Trisha.” Ruby said
“Thats what friends are for,” Trisha replied and hugged them again before running off, towards her seat.
Trisha came just in time to catch the boys try to act natural. She narrowed her eyes suspiciously as she got her self seated on her vacant seat.
“Oh, Tris… You were amazing!” Kyle praised.
“Yeah, you really helped those girls asses over there.” Jack added
“Hey! Don’t talk about my friends asses!” Trisha protested with a scrunched up nose.
Jack rose his hand in surrender.
Trisha rolled her eyes.
“Em… Tris, we will be right back.” Kyle said.
Ryan slapped his forehead and groaned.
“No!” She shouted.
“Yes no!” Ryan supported.
“Chill, Tris… I and Jack wanna go check something out, Ryan will keep you company.” Kyle assured and Trisha looked kinda relieved.
Ok, that would be ok by her. As long as Ryan doesn’t get to go anywhere.
“Ok. But don’t stay out too long” Trisha permitted.
“What?!” Ryan said
“She said Ok, Ry.” Jack said as of Ryan didn’t hear her at first.
Ryan slapped his head again.
The two boys stood up to leave.
“Ok, Tris… We’ll be right back. Don’t be stupid, Ry.” Jack said and they left.
“You’re the stupid one, Jack.” Ryan said after them.
Trisha stiffled a laugh. This was fine, just perfect.
Just both of them at a table, like on a date, doing absolutely nothing.
The silence between them was more nerve hitting than Jack’s annoying behavior.
“So…” Ryan blurted out after a while, stealing a glance at her.
“So…” She repeated funnily.
He laughed.
“You wanna go get some popcorn?” He offered.
Trisha’s eye widened. No! They better stay in the crowd so that those fools won’t find a chance.
She looked at him and gave him a small smile.
“No… I’m good ” She said with a shake of her head.
“Oh ok.” Ryan muttered
Silence.
“You were… Amazing up there.” He said.
“Thanks.” She replied.
Silence
“So…” He said again, sounding extremely stupid.
Trisha swiped her head to face him.
“Seriously, Ryan? You’re supposed to keep me company.” She said
His lips twitched and he got that arrogant look on his pretty face.
“Well, I’m sorry for boring you out!” He said in annoyance.
“Is it necessary?” She rolled her eyes. “Why did they leave you anyway?” She asked.
“How am I supposed to know that?” He shouted.
Trisha scoffed..
“Yeah I bet you know so well, just keeping your proud head up.” Trisha fired raising her brows
“… And you’re raising your brows so authoritatively.” He said back.
“Well I’m sorry for not appreciating your shy face.” She said, pouting her lips.
“Well, my face wouldn’t have been so shy if you hadn’t shown up with your kissable lips.!” He said and immediately the words left his mouth, his eyes widened. That came out so wrong.
Trisha’s jaw dropped in surprise at his outburst. She turned away from him and dragged her attention to the stage.
Ryan almost slapped his stupid head.
What the heck was wrong with him?
Trisha couldn’t really point a finger on what to think on.
It was a very awkward moment between them Trisha even felt like leaving him and going for some air. But she knew she couldn’t.
Ryan scratched the back of his head nervously and gulped.
“Tris, I’m sorry… I didnt mean… I was just trying to say… Errr…” He blabbed.
“Ryan?” Bella called, walking up to them.
His head snapped up to her.
“Principal Hanns wants to see you outside the hall.” She said shyly squeezing her fingers and batting her lashes.
Trisha rolled her eyes.
“I’ll be right there.” Ryan said and she left.
He turned to Trisha.
“I’ll be right…”
“We’re going together.” Trisha interrupted, not looking at him.
“O…k” Ryan muttered and stood up.
She stood up too and they strolled outside the hall.
They met Mrs Hanns outside the hall.
She rose a brow at Trisha.
“Err… I’m not feeling too good and he didn’t wanna leave me alone in there so I decided to come with him just so he would come at all.” She lied.
Ryan’s brow furrowed. “Huh?” He muttered, wondering when all those had happened.
Trisha elbowed him to play along.
“Oh… Yes! She’s not well, I just can’t leave her in there.” He agreed.
Mrs Hanns studied Trisha for a while. Trisha locked her hand in Ryan’s and acted weak to make it look real.
Mrs Hanns nodded slightly.
“Ok, then… We need to talk. Come on. The noise is too much here.” She said and began to walk along the passage.
Ryan and Trisha exchanged glances but followed her either way.
When they got to the hallway, Mrs Hanns stopped.
“Wait right here, I’ll go get some files I found concerning your previous school, Mt Anderson.” She ordered and continued the journey to the end of the hallway and up the stairs.
“My previous school? What did I do now?” Ryan wondered.
Trisha shrugged. “Don’t worry, it may certainly not be something major.” She assured and then she realized that their hands were still locked, she pulled her hand away, gently.
Ryan’s lips formed a thin line and he held his hands since they were no longer busy.
The hallway was just the two of them in it.
Trisha scanned the area detectively with her eyes. She went and leaned on a locker by the side, humming a tone.
Ryan tilted his head to the side to steal a glance at her and he looked away immediately after meeting her eyes.
Trisha hid a smile. So he thought her lips were kissable. That’s why he kissed them that day in the basketball court. And he just couldn’t help but expose himself.
She stifled a laugh.
She studied him through the corner of her eyes. The way he grinded his teeth and licked his lips. He seemed to have it as a habit. His thick black hair slightly covering his forehead..
The way he hung his head up high, it would look like it was pride but it was just his way. His Adam’s apple just never rested, jumping up and down in jubilation or something. His chest heaved after every breath he took.
He wore a black jacket that evening, they all did, covering their uniform top.
She didn’t know his jacket had a tiny red spot on it. She furrowed her brow when the red dot shifted.
Wait… That was not just any red dot, She looked to the top of the stairs and caught a figure behind the wall, pointing a gun to their direction.
She looked back at the dot and She straightened her posture at discovery.
That was not any red dot… That was a….
“No!” She screamed, jumping towards Ryan.
She successfully hit him out of the way before the sound of gunshot interrupted the silence in the area.
They both fell to the side.
Trisha’s head shot back up to the top of the stairs just in time to find the culprit run into the next floor.
Trisha groaned and forced herself off the ground..
Ryan laid there, breathing heavily.
“What happened.” He asked in panic.
Trisha turned to him and helped him up.
“I need you to stay safe, I have to go for that guy.” She said. “Go back to the hall and don’t leave!” She ordered.
“Are you crazy? That guy just shot a gun and you wanna go after him to do what? Dance?” He shouted, holding her hand.
“Ryan, I don’t want him to get away, I want you to be safe… Now go!” She yelled and freed her arm from his grip and pushing him away.
“Stay safe, Ryan! Promise me you won’t let them get you.” She barked.
“Let who? What’s going on? Tell me.” He yelled
“Just Promise me!” She shouted, feeling a will to cry.
Ryan studied her face for a while and he nodded.
“I promise!” He said.
Trisha felt a tear leak from her eyes, she ran up to him and pressed her lips to his, dragging his face down to hers.
More tears.
Don’t cry, Trisha, he’ll be ok.
Ryan wrapped his arms around her.
He didn’t understand what was going on at that point, but if that was what she wanted, who was he to protest.
She slowly pulled away and pushed him away at the same time.
“Go!” She ordered shakily, her lips trembling.
Ryan nodded and made his way back to hall.
She turned back to the stairs and ran towards the stairs.
