GRUMPY AND THE PRIEST : EPISODE 1 – 10

Episode 10

Nina walked into the dinnete to have breakfast with her dad and there she met him , making a call. She thought it was one of his usual business calls, but it seemed to be more interesting than the others as he laughed cheerfully on the phone.
She wandered who he was talking to.

“Good morning, dad” she said to him as the call finally came to an end.

“Good morning, darling. How was your night?” He replied and asked.

“It was lovely”.

She took out some slices of tomato-rubbed bread and munched on it. It was one of her favorite Spanish dishes and she had pleaded with her dad to have the maids make it for breakfast.

“Thanks for the Pon con tomate, dad” she told him and he laughed.

“You’re welcome, love. But I’m still wandering how you guys there in Spain get to enjoy these. It’s so gross.” He replied with a funny look and made Nina laugh.

“By the way, Nina” ha said after a while. “We’ll be having a visitor this evening”.

“A visitor? Who’s it?”

“It’s meant to be a surprise darling” he replied cheerfully and touched her cheeks.

“And one more thing,” he continued. “I’m really delighted to know you’re on okay terms with Theo. Please, I hope it goes on that way.”

“OK terms?”she thought. “Whoever said we were on OK terms?”

“I’m off to school dad” she said as she stood up wit her bag.

“Oh! Hold on. let me give you a ride”

They walked out of the house and were about going to the garage when the gate opened and a flashy car drove in.
They remained standing, wandering who it was and surprisingly, it was Theo.

He came from the back seat, looking as natty as ever and budged forward to meet Nina and her dad.

“Good morning, sir” he said to Mr Declan as he stood in front of them.

Nina kept staring at him in surprise.

“Theo! How’re you doing?” Declan asked expressively, also feeling surprised.

“I’m fine.
“Hi Nina.”

“Hi” Nina relied simply, trying not to show off her admiration.

Seriously, his outfit was killing.
He was putting on a black shiny pullover with black jeans and a pair of red sneakers. He really knew how to take care of his appearances. No wander many ladies liked him.

“Uhm Nina, I was thinking you might want me to give you a ride to school” Theo said to her.

“A ride?” She asked. “I don’t think that’s necessary. My dad was about bringing me to school l”.

“It doesn’t matter Nina” Declan chipped in. “It think it’s best you two go together”.

Nina stared at her dad and rolled her eyes at him. Well, she knew he was capable of doing something like that.

“Bye dad” she said in a frail voice as she walked with Theo into his car.

“So, how was your night Nina?” He asked as they sat next to each other at the backseat.

“It was fine. Thanks” she replied with an obligatory smile and the driver started off.

She noticed Theo was busy with his phone, but she didn’t care to know what he was doing. After some time, he made a call.

“Yes?… I told you I needed the other colors. You just ended up sending useless stuffs…well, did you ever tell me money was the problem? You better do something about it and get those shit out of my house…I’ll transfer the money to you later…better”
And he ended the call with a muttered insult.

“What was that?” Nina finally decided to ask so she doesn’t seem less concern.

“Oh its nothing to worry about. It’s just some items I ordered from a worthless company and they ended up sending wrong stuff.” He replied with a little anger in his voice.

“Okay. By the way, Theo, don’t you think you should apologize to Alvin?”she asked.

“Sorry, what did you say?” He asked.

“I said, don’t you think you should apologize to Alvin? He was also Hurt, right?”

“Hold on; are you kidding me or something? Apologize to what? To a fellow guy? That’s impossible Nina. I even had plans of having him expelled.”

“Expelled?” Nina shrieked. “Over what reason? Don’t even go there, Theo.”

“Fine, then. That’s the best I can do for him. But apologizing to him, that’s totally out of point.”

Nina sighed pathetically at his grumpy attitude. She wandered if they ever got married, if that was the kind of attitude her kids were likely to have.

They finally arrived in school and Theo escorted Nina to her class. All the students that had seen them couldn’t take their eyes away as they continued staring and whispering and giggling.

“How about we have lunch together?” Theo asked Nika as they stood at the entrance of her classroom.

“Sure. No problem” Nina replied, feeling a little uncomfortable with the eyes revolving around them.

“Okay then. I’ll be here to pick you up. Bye” He said and left with a smile.

Nina nervously walked into the classroom and rook her seat next to Emily who was also looking fazed.

“Hi” she greeted and waved at her.

“Hi. You and Theo are finally on OK terms?” Emily replied and asked.

“Yeah. Kind of”.

“Hm. That sounds great. Anyway, I shouldn’t be surprised. He’s your fiance anyway” Emily replied and nudged her.

When it was lunch time, Theo came as planned. He took Nina from the class and on their way to the cafeteria, she sighted June from a close distance.

“Hold on Theo. I need to see someone” she told him and scuttled to where June was

“Nina!” June called in excitement as she saw her.

“Hi. Wats up” replied Nina.

“I’m fine” ..

She dipped her hand into her bag and brought out the bracelet she had promised.

“Oh my God!” June exclaimed happily as she collected it from her. “I honestly thought you’d forgot about it. Thanks a lot”.

“You’re welcome. By the way, where’s Alvin? Is he here in school?”

“Yes. He should be around somewhere”

“Okay. Hope your mom wasn’t too harsh on him?”

“Well, she just scolded him a little, but I’m sure he’s over it.
“You know, Nina, my brother isn’t as grumpy as he looks. He’s been a very cheerful and simple guy; not until my mom brought up a crazy idea some years back. I really miss that happy brother of mine and it pains me a lot that might be next to impossible. But, I still have a string of hope somewhere”.

Nina felt bad after listening to what June said. She knew Alvin was under oppression and it hind of pained her a lot.

“Nina!” Theo called from behind, seeming impatient.

“I need to go. We’ll talk later” she said to June and quickly went back to Theo.

They walked into the hopping cafeteria together and as expected, everyone kept staring at them.

Surprisingly, to Nina, Theo held her hands and took her to a perfect place to sit.

“Would you want some privacy? I could order everyone out” Theo said as they both settled down, facing each other.

“What?” Nina shrieked. “And why would you do that? Please that isn’t necessary.”

Gosh! She was seriously finding Theo unbelievable.

He called on an attendant and she hurried over immediately ..

Nina found that amazing because every other student had to go to the ordering table to place orders for food, but In Theo’s case, the attendants had to come to him.

“What would you like to take Nina?” He asked with a soft stare.

“Uhm…just get me some chips and dips” she replied.

“Okay. Just get me some cheese fries” Theo also added and the attendance left with a nod.

“So tell me Nina, how’s Spain?” He started up a conversation, trying to dispel Nina’s nervousity.

“It’s OK. It’s cool. Made a lot of friends”.

“Really? And you speak Spanish, right?”

“Yeah, I do. And you? How was France?”

“Oh; France! It was the best; trust me. Seriously, I wish I didn’t have to leave.”

“Well, Same here. I wish I were in Spain. It was more fun over there because…I had less annoying people to deal with”.

Theo rose his brows at her and finally let out a dashing smile.

Immediately, Alvin walked in. He stared at Nina and Theo sitting together, having a friendly chat and he quickly took his eyes away, putting on a brood look.

Nina saw him And was almost tempted to run up to him. But she stared at Theo and felt he might get upset and so, she sat still.

She kept staring at him, trying to see if she could get his attention so she could wave at him , but he didn’t look her direction again.
He just nipped in and left with a drink and this got her bittered.

Shortly, the attendant returned with their orders and placed them on the table, respectively.

“What is this?” Theo asked disgruntledly as he took a look at his food. “I thought I ordered for some french fries? How come I’m getting cheese fries instead?”

“But…you did order for cheese fries…”

“Are you trying to call me a fool?” He rasped back at her before she could finish up.

“Have you become that worthless? Are you sick of your job?”

“Theo!” Nina cut in, sounding pissed off. “You did order for cheese fries.”

“I did?” He asked with a calm voice, beginning to realize he was wrong.

“Oh, okay. It must have been misunderstanding. You can leave” he said to the attendant who left with relieve.

They began eating and he noticed Nina was upset, probably over his fowl attitude.

“I’m sorry” he said to her.

“Don’t you think you’re apologizing to the wrong person? I’m not the attendant” she replied icily and they continued eating in silence for a short time.

“Look, I didn’t mean to be rude…”

“But you always being rude and find it tasky to apologize.” She cut him off.

“I dislike such attitude, Theo and I’d appreciate it if you could change it; at least whenever you’re around me.”

Theo’s attention had been taken away by his friends who suddenly came in and sat at a table behind Nina. They kept making funny gestures and signals at him and he couldn’t help but laugh, silently.

“Why didn’t you get some flowers?” Miles whispered and gestured at him.

“Give her a peck” Owen also whispered and kissed Lancelot’s cheeks as a means of demonstration and Theo busted into laughter.

Nina was muddled and turned around and that was when she noticed his three partners in crime.

“What’s going on with your friends?” She asked wit a grin look.

“Oh, it’s nothing I mean, absolutely nothing. They were just being funny” He replied with a little laughter.

Nina became tensed as she felt they were making jest of her.

“I need to go, Theo. I need to check up on something in the library.” She said as she got on her feet with her bag.

“But why? You haven’t finished your meal.”

“I’m okay. Thanks for lunch.” She replied and left the table.

His friends buried their eyes in their book as she walked passed them, trying to look serious with their studies.

“Crazy lunch ever!” She mumbled to herself as she walked out.

Immediately she left, they all ran over to Theo’s table who was laughing.

“What’s wrong with you guys?” Theo asked.
“You ruined my first lunch ever wit my fiancee”.

“You’re one of a kind, Theo. I thought you were never going to sort things out with her?”Lancelot asked as he took in some of Nina’s left over chips.

“Well, I had to. Besides, she’s my fiancee. I need to create a good foundation.”

“Seriously? So…you mean you’re beginning to fall for her?” Owen asked.
