HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
CHAPTER 34
In Another Ward
“Hello, I’m Rebecca Louise, I’m here for Miss Tasha Wood” Rebecca introduced herself to a nurse who had stopped her from entering the ward.
Tasha broke into a smile immediately she heard Rebecca’s voice, but the smile vanished and was replaced with a frown, as she groaned in pain when she felt her cheeks and jaw hurting.
She tilted her head slightly and saw Rebecca showing her ID card to the nurse, her (Tasha’s) frown deepened as she threw a glare at the doctor for pressing too hard on a bruise in her arm.
“Let her in, she’s my manager” Tasha said rudely, averting her gaze from the doctor to the nurse.
The nurse nodded and made way for Rebecca who rushed in, but her steps faltered when her eyes landed on Tasha. Rebecca stared particularly at Tasha’s face, with her mouth slightly open as though she couldn’t believe what she’s seeing.
“A-are you Tasha?” she asked.
Tasha frowned even more at her question.
“Or did I come into the wrong ward?” she asked further.
Tasha rolled her eyes.
“Don’t be so dramatic, the doctor said it isn’t that bad” Tasha told her.
“Isn’t that bad?”
Rebecca tilted her head to get a proper view of Tasha’s face, she hissed as she shook her and searched inside her bag for something.
“I can’t even see any resemblance between you now and the model version of you” she said, she pulled out a small mirror and handed it to Tasha. “As a model this is surely a big deal for you”
Tasha glared at the mirror for a moment, then she scoffed and snatched it from Rebecca. The doctor’s done tending to her bruises by now, and she’s talking to her nurse who in turn, was jotting down whatever the doctor’s telling her.
“Go on, check yourself out in the mirror” Rebecca urged Tasha.
Tasha rolled her eyeballs, before looking in the mirror. Her eyes widened in horror as if she’s just seen a ghost, her mouth hang open but no sound came out and she shook her head in denial as her reflection stared back at her.
Her once sparkling and flawless face, is now having multicolor, blue, red, black and green bruises covered almost every part of her face, and there seemed to be horns on her forehead.
The mirror fell off her hand as she released an ear piercing shriek, everyone in the ward covered their ears and her shriek lasted for a while.
“No, no, no, that’s not me, that’s not me” she denied in panic as she continued shaking her head in denial. “The mirror is an enchanted mirror, it changes people’s appearances into a mon$ter’s.. that wasn’t me” she continued denying.
Rebecca sighed, she turned away from Tasha and faced the doctor.
“Doctor, what can we do to her face, to bring it back to normal?” she asked the doctor.
“Nothing” the doctor replied. “Her face is bruised and it will eventually heal on its own”
“I know it’s gonna heal on its own, but isn’t there something we can apply to fasten the healing process?” she asked.
“Of course”
The doctor collected an ointment from her coat’s pocket and handed it to Rebecca.
“I always carry that with me in case of emergencies like this” she nodded towards Tasha who’s still murmuring. “Help her apply it on her bruises and she’s gonna recover soon”
“Is there anything else? Like is she gonna stay here under observation?”
“There’s no need for that, she can go home and…” she ripped off what the nurse has been scribbling on her clipboard. “.. here’s some painkillers I’ve prescribed for her, get them and make sure she takes them accordingly”
“Thank you, doctor” Rebecca said as she collected the prescription.
The doctor simply nodded in response.
“Excuse me, I have other things to do” then the doctor and her nurse left the ward.
Rebecca turned back to Tasha, she’s (Tasha) busy checking out every bruise inflicted on her during her fight with Rachel.
“My career is over, it’s done and…”
“Quit whining!” Rebecca snapped at her. “You’re sure very bold going to her cafe to accuse her without any evidence, you’re lucky she didn’t kll and have your body buried in her backyard”
“The note was evidence” Tasha retorted back. “She clearly wrote it”
“You’re just helpless, Tasha”
Tasha ignored her, she glared at the empty space in front of her, but in her mind she’s glaring at Rachel.
“I heard the men that came to her rescue call her Mrs Baldwin, could it be she’s really Duncan’s mysterious wife?” she questioned herself silently.
Rebecca raised an eyebrow at her.
“What are you murmuring to yourself?”
Tasha ignored her and smirked.
“She think she’s won” she shook her head. “No, she hasn’t, it’s not over yet because I’ll make her regret ever getting in my way” Tasha promised.
“She got in your way?” Rebecca scoffed. “I think you’re the one forcing your way in”
“I don’t care what you think!” Tasha snapped. “Find a way to get me outta this hospital, I have something to do outside” she said.
“What do you wanna do?”
“What I wanna do is none of your business!”
Rebecca stared at her for a moment, then sighed and shook her head in disappointment.
HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
Doctor Anderson’s Office
“Have a seat” doctor Anderson showed Mr Baldwin to a sofa.
Mr Baldwin sat down, he waited impatiently for doctor Anderson who walked towards the small fridge in his office, he took a bottle of fruit wine, two glasses and headed back to join Mr Baldwin.
He opened the wine and poured some into the glasses before sitting down.
“Here” he gestured towards the glass of wine he’s poured for Mr Baldwin.
Mr Baldwin nodded, but he didn’t touch it.
“How’s my wife? Is she really alright?” he asked with urgency in his voice.
Doctor Anderson chuckled at his eagerness, he took a sip from his wine and set the glass down on the table.
“Calm down, Mr Baldwin, your wife’s condition is not serious at all” he said calmly.
Mr Baldwin stared at him for a moment, he reached for his glass of wine and perceived it, then looked back at doctor Anderson wondering if he’s drunk from fruit wine.
“Her condition is not serious at all?” doctor Anderson shook his head. “Then what about Jeff’s clothes that’s almost covered in her bIood? Isn’t …”
He was cut off by doctor Anderson’s chuckled.
“Mr Baldwin, your wife is a very healthy woman and she has more than enough bIood in her system, hence she would bIeed a lot at even the slightly wounds”
Mr Baldwin frowned as though he can’t understand what doctor Anderson’s trying to say.
“Your wife didn’t sustain any big injury, it was just a tiny at the back of her head, but it’s a little bit deep because it was pierced by a brad nail”
“A brad nail?”
“Yes, she bIed only a lot because of the excess bIood in her system”
Mr Baldwin frowned deeply as he thought about the doctor’s explanation.
“Hold on, you mean Jeff’s…” he nodded at Jeff who stood outside the door, but in line of their sight. “… Jeff was almost covered in my wife’s bIood, just because of a tiny wound?”
“Yes, Mr Baldwin”
Mr Baldwin shut his eyes, he inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly in relief.
“But that wasn’t the reason she passed out, she…”
“Huh?”
“She passed out because she’s been under too much pressure recently, which isn’t so good at this early stage and I’ll advice…”
Mr Baldwin raised his hand and doctor Anderson stopped his words halfway. He tilted his head again, then gave the doctor a confused and questioning look.
“Early stage?” the doctor nodded. “What early stage? Didn’t you just said my wife is very healthy? Why is there an early stage now?”
Without waiting for Anderson’s reply, a ¢razy thought has crossed his mind and his eyes grew wide as fear gripped him.
“Don’t tell me my wife has cancer”
Anderson frowned at Mr Baldwin’s wide imagination.
“Cancer? What cancer? She doesn’t have cancer”
“Then what early stage are you talking about?”
Doctor Anderson sighed.
“I meant the early stage of her pregnancy”
“Huh?!”
Mr Baldwin stared blankly at doctor Anderson, he seemed lost and confused at his words.
“W-what did you just say?” he asked to confirm if his ears were actually working.
“I said it’s still the early stage of your wife’s pregnancy” doctor Anderson repeated his words.
Mr Baldwin fell back on the sofa, he threw his head back and closed his eyes as he processed doctor Anderson’s words.
“Alright… from your expression, I can tell you don’t know about her pregnancy yet” he chuckled.
After a few moments, Mr Baldwin lifted himself off the sofa and faced Anderson.
“Let me get this straight once more, you mean, there’s a tiny human growing inside my wife’s stomach?”
“Yes, sir”
“Are you sure? Because we’re talking about a living, breathing human here?”
“Yes, Mr Baldwin, your wife is five weeks pregnant” the doctor repeated his words and handed some papers to him. “I’m not a gynecologist, but you can trust me on this”
Mr Baldwin stared at the papers with a surprise expression at first, then he burst into a very wide grin as he continued staring at the papers.
He saw water drop on the paper and was wondering where it came from, until the doctor ask…
“Why are you crying, Mr Baldwin? Are you ok?”
He raised his head at once.
“I’m crying?” he asked back.
“Yes” doctor Anderson answered with a nod.
He (Mr Baldwin) felt something rushing down his right cheek, he quickly reached for it and touched it, then he chuckled loudly.
“I’m crying, I’m really crying!” he said in a shocked tone. “But why am I crying?” he asked rhetorically.
Doctor Anderson laughed shortly.
“I guess you’ve been waiting to be a dad for a long time” he said.
“My dream is finally coming true, I’m gonna a dad!”
“You’re way happier than most expecting dads I’ve seen” Anderson commented. “Is there a special reason for it?”
Mr Baldwin closed his eyes as he kssed the papers, imagining he’s kssing his wife at the moment.
“You won’t understand the reason for my joy right now” he paused as he got up. “I’ve gotta go see my wife”
“Uh.. I wanted to talk to you about…”
“We’ll talk about every other thing later, I’m going to see my wife right now!” Mr Baldwin cut the doctor off.
Without waiting for doctor Anderson’s reply, he snatched the results from the table and dashed out of the office.
“My wife is pregnant! I’m gonna be a dad! Someone’s gonna call me daddy soon!”
He shouted as he raced down the hallway towards his wife’s ward, luckily his bodyguards already had the floor cleared, hence there wasn’t anyone around to witness his madness.
