HOUSE OF THORNS

Episode 13

Vivian and her husband spent the entire night talking about the things Mary had done to them. Leonard told her how Valerie and her sister had rescued him when he was already in the snare of the desperate woman.

She couldn’t believe the very people she had been terming ev!l were actually the ones who had made the enemy in friendly clothing fail in her plans to ruin her completely and take over her man.

They were happy that somehow, they’d been able to overcome Mary, and looked forward to being happy again. But, even though they were back together again, the spark in their relationship was gone!

Leonard had tried on three occasions to work it up while in bed with his wife, but he had real troubles getting it up each time, in spite of how much his wife tried to play with him.

“Oh God!” he lamented in frustration as he lay beside his wife on their bed, looking at her face with all the worries he had in his heart written on his face.

Vivian’s eyes were tightly shut, but tears trickled down from both corners of her eyes as she lay still, not moving any part of her body. “Its going to be okay baby” Leonard stuttered, doing all he could to sound confident, but deep within him, he was more afraid of what was happening to him than when he had waited for the doctor to tell him how his wife was fairing the night she lost her pregnancy.

What if he had some sort of erect!le dysfunction? He couldn’t think of what would become of his marriage and life if it turned out that his small man was having a permanent issue.

Vivian was crying in her heart even when she smiled at her husband, agreeing that things would be okay. She was doing all she could to save him from worrying about what she was thinking could be the problem.

Telling him about it would only aggravate it if that was truly the reason for the problem. So she could only smile with him and agree that everything will be okay. And so they kept trying for three weeks, hoping that they’d someday get it on again. But it grew worse by the day, and Leonard was beginning to get apprehensive anytime he saw his wife naked.

Leonard and Tricia’s relationship had blossomed in the past three weeks, and they were fast growing closer than just a boss and her employee. They talked about so many things, and because of the role she played in helping him get rid of Mary, and how she had been instrumental to the successful reconciliation between him and his wife, he had become so free around her, being able to tell her many personal things.

Vince her man had blamed Leonard non stop for keeping the issues he had with his wife to himself, and going the wrong lane of drinking himself to stupor. He told him how living in solitude made his father lose his life.

He told Leonard the story of his past, and how he eventually met Tricia. From Vince’s story, Leonard was able to deduce why Vince in spite of being in a love with a very beautiful and successful woman didn’t have insecurity issues.

He also had a very good communication flow with his woman and that had been the life wire of their relationship.

Vince told Leonard how he knows virtually everything that happens with Tricia as it happens and how he doesn’t make any move until he had critically discussed it with his woman.

He grew up watching his father’s lifestyle and how his parents went from one ugly experience to another, not being able to make any contribution, but after his mother’s demise, his father’s life became so miserable that he had become a shadow of himself.

His father later found out that he had actually been a pain in his wife’s life for no justifiable reason.

The whole plot that made his wife appear as a she-devil was uncovered way too late. If only he had listened to her the number of times she had tried to speak with him.

The guilt of being the one who had thrown her into the depression that eventually took her life, made the man become so lost that he went into solitude.

He was worried about how Vince’s life as he had erstwhile tutored him to be wary of women while he was growing up, but Vince had a mind of his own.

And just as if the depression that klled Vince’s mother was passed on to his father, the man followed his wife just a few moths after. Vince was only lucky that his father had taken steps transfer his estates and assets to him long before he passed on. His uncle who had been the architect behind his parents’ doom was disappointed to find no loopholes in the Will the man left behind.

The young man inherited his father’s successful business conglomerate, but his interest was in the ranch business, so while he retained the management team in his father’s haulage company, he assumed the management of the ranch. And had been bent on being without any woman, he didn’t know if he could make a good partner.

So when he had met Tricia in one of the business dinner parties he attended, he had only intended to keep a formal relationship with her. But the more their friendship blossomed, the more he knew he couldn’t be without her.

And when he became so sure that their feeling was mutual, he asked her to be his girlfriend. And they have been the best of lovers since then.

He loved how she loved him perfectly, sharing her worries and happiness with him.

So when she complained about Leonard’s sudden poor appearances, he knew the man was in distress. But he didn’t know how to help him since they weren’t close.

He was quite happy to know how Tricia had handled the issue after he was found with Mary, and when he was told he was now Tricia’s friend, he invited him to his ranch.

That evening, while Valerie and Tricia sat drinking and talking, Leonard and Vince took a walk.

Leonard had asked Vince to show him around the ranch, but he had simply wanted to get Vince alone, to be able to tell him what bothered him the most.

It was his third visit to the ranch and he had become so close to Vince he could call him his friend.

Even though he had been very wary of friends since he had that experience with Mary and his best friend, he felt safe with Vince. The dude acted too real and mature.

“What’s the hullabaloo buddy?” Vince asked as soon as they stepped out of the women’s earshot. “And why are you so sure I have something to say?” Leonard asked smiling uneasily.

“Oh common Leonard, I’ve been in this ranch business for a while now, so when I see someone who’s interested in the business, it’s not difficult to tell. Besides Leo, you’ve been here a couple of times before, but you chose to ask to be shown around today” he told him matter-of-factly.

“I’m deeply troubled Vince” he started. “Tell me about it Leo” Vince told him concernedly. “I’ve not been able to get it up since my wife and I made up our differences.

We’ve really tried but something seems to be wrong. I’m particularly afraid of the possibility of it being connected to any health issues” Leonard poured his heart out.

“And even when I try so hard not to think about it, a part of me still fears if my wife wouldn’t someday find herself in the arms of the lout she was set up with after waiting for me to make her feel like a woman without success. I’m afraid that she may walk out on me if I don’t do something about this shit fast!” He concluded.

“I’m not a professional, but you see, from the little I know, these worries of yours are enough to keep that little man from agreeing to work with you. The best bet though is to get a doctor take a look at you” Vince told him.

Leonard was skeptical about having the doctor evaluate him, but with Vince’s insistence, two days later, they were seated in front of a doctor who had carried out some examinations and assessments, waiting for him to tell them about his findings.

The doctor looked at Leonard and then at Vince then asked if he was comfortable with him discussing what he had to tell him in the presence of Vince. Leonard nodded, unable to speak as anxiety was making his heart pound too loudly.

He supported his chest with right hand, to keep the heart from falling out while he waited for the doctor to speak.
