Episode 15
“Urrgh” Vivian frowned as the nauseous feeling came again. She had been feeling so sick since they got to the hotel they had chosen for the vacation. She rushed to the bathroom for the fourth time, trying so hard to throw up again, but nothing came out.
“Are you alright baby?” Leonard asked as he rushed to her sides to help her. She was retching with so much effort, still unable to spill anything. “Oh Lord, my chest hurts so badly” she complained and Leonard was rubbing her chest lovingly, wishing to make me hurt go away.
Vivian spat into the wash basin and washed her face under the running water to take off the tear stains on her cheeks. “You may be reacting to the change of food baby, you’re going to be okay” Leonard consoled her.
“I don’t think so. I’ve also been feeling very hot. I just hope it’s not something serious, because I feel very sick” she cried as she walked back into her husband’s waiting arms.
“I got you baby, you’re going to be fine” he kept reassuring her as he carried her out of the bathroom, placing her gently on the bed and rang the room service for a glass of milk. Leonard quickly dressed up and strode out of the room.
“My wife is sick Vince. I just hope I haven’t added to the problems we’re having already” he complained.
“What do you mean, added to the problems you already have?” Vince asked his friend looking very worried.
“I think she’s reacting to the food or some other thing she’s had since we got here. Now, how the hêll am I going to be able to get on with her if she’s so sick? My leave is just for a week!” Leonard complained.
“Have you thought about the possibility of your wife being pregnant?” Vince asked his friend still trying to see how he could help.
“Oh she can’t be pregnant Vince. Since she had that miscarriage, we’ve been at loggerheads, I haven’t touched her. And if you’re thinking about the god forsaken loser that Mary arranged to r@pe my wife, that also has been ruled out” Leonard told Vince.
“How do you mean Leo?” Vince asked him, not quite getting what he was saying. Was Leonard afraid to accept the fact that the dude may have gotten his wife pregnant?
“Vince, the doctor said my wife may not be able to get pregnant again after the evacuation they performed on her when she fell that day. He had given us the option of getting a surrogate or adopting, but I’ve not really had the chance to speak with my wife as a couple since that day. So the truth is, my wife can’t be pregnant, medically, she’s unable to do that” Leonard explained.
“Oh I see! That means we need to see a doctor immediately Leo. We need to be sure of what is going on with your wife. But my guy, you need to calm down, let’s worry about one person. The way you’re getting all worked up will only end up making things go the other way for you!” he advised.

A few hours later, they were all seating in the hospital lobby. Valerie and Tricia were doing their best to convince Vivian that everything was going to be okay, but Vivian kept telling them about how she was sure something huge was wrong.
Eventually, it was their turn to see the doctor, and Vivian went in with her husband while the others waited for them.
“Congratulations Mr. Leonard, your wife is pregnant” the doctor announced cheerfully, and the couple looked at each other sharply.
Vivian looked at her husband, searching his eyes to see how his heart registered the news. Then hot tears burned hotly in Vivian’s eyes as she got up to leave the doctor’s office.
The doctor smiled on, he had seen couples react in different ways to the news of pregnancy, and from what he was seeing, he was sure these people have been expecting this good news for so long. ”No wonder none of the could speak, the woman could only shed tears of joy” he thought.
But when Vivian walked out of the door and her husband sat still, looking so lost, the doctor began to worry about him. “Could something be wrong?” he thought as he got up and circled the table to get to Leonard’s sides.
“Are you okay buddy?” he asked, worried that the news that was meant to give every married couple joy had made the wife cry and run away, while the husband sat still, looking so forlorn and lost.
“Yeah! I’m fine. Just not expecting this” he told the doctor and walked out to find his wife. He needed to tell her what he had in mind.
In those few moments he’d been seated there, he had come up with a decision, he needed to let her know his stands on this precarious situation they’ve found themselves.
“What’s going on Leo. Why did your wife run away like that? She didn’t even stop to respond to a single question we asked” Vince complained.
“Where is she?” Leonard asked between clenched teeth. “She hailed a cab before I got to her sides” Tricia replied.
“Then we should all go” Leonard said and walked towards the car, not waiting for anyone to tell him otherwise.
Leonard didn’t say a word as they drove to the hotel even when Tricia and Valerie kept bombarding him with questions. He didn’t speak, he couldn’t.
How could he tell them that Vivian had allowed Mary make them lose the first fruit of their love, and let her get someone else implant a seed of betrayal and infidelity in her.
How could he tell them that she was having the seed of the very one whose memory was already making it difficult for him to get it on with his wife?
As soon as car stopped in the hotel’s parking lot, he ran out of the car like one chased by a ghost. He needed to tell Vivian what he had in mind before he lost the rage that he needed to speak to her the way he should.
“Now, what are you going to do about that sht in you?” Leonard fumed as soon as he shut the door to their room.
“What do you mean Leonard? What am I supposed to do? You’re not in any way suggesting that I …” she was saying, looking offended.
“The he1l I am. You do not expect me to live all my life having to look at a child who’d only remind me of the day you so shamelessly lay beneath a man in our house, screaming while he screwed you!” he screamed in extreme anger.
“Say that again Leonard!” She dared him, looking more upset than a woman whose husband had just taken a new wife.
“Vivian, you were screaming like a lvnat!c under that s!cko. It’s true that Mary got you set up, but I know what I saw, you were enjoying what you were getting when I got in there. And you want to know the truth? I’ve been trying so hard to forgive you, but if you’re obstinate about keeping that bstard, then…” he was saying
“Save yourself that stress Leonard. For how long do you think I was going to wait for you to work it up anyways? You must be a clown to think that I’d tamper with this pregnancy when I never imagined I’d ever be pregnant again, all thanks to you and your depr@ved ex” she retorted as she resumed packing her stuffs.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” Leonard asked wide eyed. He had his lips pursed and his eyes were glistening as he looked at the woman he has done nothing but loved perfectly.
“I’m done Leonard. I’m done waiting for you to wake that stuff up. I can’t trade the joy of being a mother to having to stay by the sides of a man who at this young age is already having problems getting it up. I’m too young to do that Leo, so I’m taking a walk. I’m sorry it has to be this way, but I’ve been contemplating this since that night in the kitchen. Even if you’re able to get your erecti0n back, how sure are we that you’d be able to sustain it? Do you think that’s what I want to live with for the rest of my life? And now this? Forget it Leo, I can’t stay even if you asked me to stay. It’s never going to be okay between us again” she told him as she finished packing.
Leonard looked at Vivian in shock. He had been so sure she’d be asking him what they’d do. He had imagined she’d want nothing to do with a pregnancy that would keep reminding them of a supposed r@ppe. He had been so sure she’d be broken and very remorseful for what she had brought upon them, but here she was, sounding like she’d been waiting for this to happen.
“Goodbye Leonard. Take care of yourself and move on with your life, there’s never going to be us ever again!” She said and made to walk out while Leonard stood there, crying like a baby. “Don’t forget to try that stuff to see if it’ll still work. The earlier you do, the higher your chances of recovering from that ailment I’ve known to be seen in only older men” she taunted him, and walked out.
