Episode 25
“Sis, I’d like to introduce someone special to you. So when you’re free, I mean when Vince eventually agrees to let you spend a few minutes with your sister that you have abandoned since she won you hands down on the snooker board, give me a call” Valerie said into her phone receiver, smiling cheekily.
She had woken up that day in high spirits. Leonard had passed the night in her room and not only was he doing the most, making her so happy, he made her see just how brighg life can be when you’re with the right person.
She needed to share her joy wit her sister. To tell her that she had finally succumbed to the pulls and the yearnings of her heart. Her sister needed to know that she had finally gotten herself a boyfriend, and she had managed to get one of the finest!
“Don’t you dare play word games with me. Who abandoned you? You know better than I do that you don’t share ice cream with people, so don’t think I don’t know why you managed to remain invincible since you grabbed one last night” Tricia replied as she picked up a paper from the floor.
She had been working on something the Head of Admin sent to her the previous night. It was something urgent and she needed to pay it attention before noon that day, so while she held her phone with her shoulder to her ears, she continued scribbling quickly on the paper.
The two sisters bantered for a while and Tricia surmised that her sister had a good news to share and wanted her in her room. She was looking forward to hearing whatever it is that she wanted to say, because even over the phone, she could feel her excitement.
Tricia and her sister were sitting in Valerie’s room a while later and it took so much self restrain to keep Tricia from hitting her sister. Valerie was playing around, but she was annoying her big sister.
“Now if you don’t tell me what’s making you this happy the next second, I’m going to hit you. Believe me when I say so” Tricia said, doing her best to appear annoyed.
Valerie had been getting her sister rilled up with her endless rigmaroles about how her life has taken a new turn. She giggled while talking about the good news she was sure her sister would like to hear.
Tricia could count the number of times she had asked her to spill whatever it was already, but the ever playful Valerie was ready to taunt her sister for eternity.
“Okay okay sis. You don’t want to beat this girl here. You don’t want your company to go scouting for a replacement for a key player” Valerie threatened.
“Okay, Valerie the key player, without whom Mcmorrit Holdings would come crumbling, can you tell me the good news? You know how I am with suspense” Tricia asked her sister
“And who told you it’s just me you’d be losing if you hit me? You need to look beyond this box” she guffawed again, sending Tricia to her wits end.
“Okay Valerie, you win. I’m asking you nicely now dear little sister, what’s the good news? What’s making you this happy? Tricia asked her sister, while rubbing her shoulder affectionately.
“Now you’re talking! You thought we were at Mcmorrit Holdings where your word is law! Were you thinking we were in Chief Mcmorrit’s home where you’re revered because the old man thinks you’re a chip off the old block!” Valerie teased her sister endlessly.
At this point, Tricia knew just what to do to her sister. She hit the ignore button and sat quietly waiting for her to come off the tantrums and let her know what’s up.
“You’re not saying anything? Are you just going to sit there and act like you’re not hearing me? Valerie asked, but Tricia kept quiet still, simply watching the television that was showing a home video in the room, even though she wasn’t really seeing a thing there.
“Okay fine! I’m going to tell you. You deserve to know that two of your top performing employees are in love. Sis, Leo asked me to be his girlfriend last night, and I gave him a big yes.
Now don’t be mad at me, I wanted to talk things over with you first, but he didn’t leave me a chance, he kssed me senseless, and my biological features betrayed me, letting him know exactly what my heart has securely held back for so long. So sis, Leo and I are together now!” she announced blushing in the right places.
When Valerie finished her speech, she was shocked to see how her sister reacted to the news she thought she’d been waiting for. She just sat there looking a her with mouth wide open.
“Sis, did you hear me when I said I now have a boyfriend? Did you also hear that the Leonard whom you have said is a pearl that would soon be discovered by a woman deserving is the man I’m seeing?” Valerie asked her sister, not quite understanding her mood swing.
Why did her sister look sad to hear that she was together with Leonard? She had always wanted her to get a boyfriend, and had on several occasions complained about how she was worried she may fall into the wrong hands since she really didn’t have any experiences with the opposite sxx.
Now judging from how Tricia had rated Leonard all along, she expected that her sister would be super pleased to hear that they’re together. Why was she then appearing sad at the news that she was now with him?
“Sis? You’re not saying anything? Are you going to say something? Is there a problem?” she kept prodding her sister, but Tricia was gazing into space. She wasn’t saying a thing.
“Valerie, you’re my only sister. You know how much I care for you, and how I want your happiness, but you see Valerie, you shouldn’t be with Leo, you can’t be with him!” Tricia told her sister, worried about how she’d convey the message to make her sister understand why she shouldn’t be with Leonard.
Valerie laughed very hard and fell on the bed. She laughed so long that her stomach ached and tears rolled on her cheeks while Tricia looked on in confusion.
“Wait, what is going on? Did this little sister of mine just pull my legs with the news of being with Leonard?” Tricia thought. Was she still trying to see if she had a thing for Leonard?
She sat there looking at her sister laugh with her hands clutching her stomach and couldn’t help but frown at the fact that she was still double checking her to see if she was crushing on Leonard.
She recalled how Valerie had asked her if she was sure she was just being nice to Leonard with no string attached.
On the day Leonard had found a man with his wife, and they had to rescue him from the hands of Mary, Valerie was sure she saw an inexplicable rage in Tricia as she dealt decisively with Mary.
So she had asked her sister why she was still with Vince if she was in love with someone else. Because according to her, she could tell that Tricia loved Leonard, even though she was trying to hold it back.
“Don’t be ridiculous Valerie. How can you say something so preposterous? How can you imagine that I’d love another man when Vince is all the man I want?” she had asked her sister.
Tricia could still remember how her sister had looked at her when she went to the guest room that night and found her cuddling Leonard.
She had called Valerie out of the room, away from Leonard’s earshot and schooled her about her attitude towards Leonard, and how it could be interpreted for something else.
Tricia could tell she still nursed the imagination that she loved Leonard, but she hadn’t expected that she’d call her up to pretend to be together with Leonard just to see her reaction.
And why was he laughing like a mani@c? Did she think it was funny that she kept annoying her with the shipping? She didn’t like the fact that her sister was joking with a thing like that, and she needed to tell her so.
So Tricia sat still, waiting for her to sister to stop her laughter for her to give her a piece of her mind. When Valerie looked up, she was shocked to see how graven Tricia’s face looked.
“Valerie, I know you’re not being serious about being with Leonard, because you can’t be with him, you know it!” Tricia said again. “And I hope for your sake that you don’t joke with things like this again!”
