Episode 27
“Hey Leo, where are you?” Vince asked over the phone. He needed to know where his friend was, to be able to discuss a very crucial matter.
“I just stepped out with Valerie. What’s up?” Leonard asked, sensing the urgency in Vince’s voice.
“Nothing much, just need to see you. There’s something important we need to talk about…oh ok, come over to my room as soon as you can” Vince told his friend before he hung up.
“Are you okay now? I’m going to speak with him. I’ll let him know what he’s up against and I’m sure if we work as a team, we should be able to overcome whatever storm Vivian may come up with. Though I doubt she’d be fighting to get back to him” Vince assured Tricia.
“Are you forgetting about Mary so soon? Have you forgotten that Valerie won’t be up against just one of those villains? I’m worried about Valerie, I don’t think her fragile heart would be able to weather the storm” Tricia lamented again.
Vince knew what Tricia was talking about, but he was getting tired of explaining the same thing to her, over and again.
“Sweetheart, I’ve told you before, and I’m saying it again. The fact that you already know a river that is expecting a storm and where the possible storm can rise from doesn’t mean the river is more dangerous than other rivers.
Those other rivers may have an ocean billed to have a tsunami, capable of overflowing it, cooking silently besides them” Vince said.
“I know you’re trying to look out for your kid sister, but you should also know that being over protective has it’s own down sides. Leonard is a good man, and I know he loves Valerie as much as she loves him. So why would we want to be an obstacle to their union?” he asked his woman, trying to make her see his logic.
Tricia thought about what he had just said and she could tell he was right as always. What she couldn’t tell was how he meant to keep her sister from harm’s way. She’d be the worst of sisters of she sat by and watched Valerie get hurt right under her nose.
After she left Valerie’s room, she had come to her room, fuming. Vince spent a good amount of time petting and persuading her to tell him what the problem was.
She had planned to come get him to talk to her sister, but when she entered the room, her rage had already built up so badly that she was at the brink of shedding tears. So she shut her lips for some time, to suppress the tears that were almost falling out.
When she had calmed down considerably, she poured it all out. Telling him about how Valerie had insinuated that she was trying to make her leave Leonard because she had interest in him.
Vince listened to her tell him about her grievances and worries, while holding her to his bossom, and rubbing her shoulders affectionately.
He had calmly and repeatedly told her that Leonard’s relationship with Valerie would definitely yield positive results if they are properly guided.
“These two people we’re talking about are deeply in love with each other. And even though Valerie isn’t experienced in relationships, Leonard is! And if you ask me, seeing how he blames himself for not being able to shield Vivian from Mary’s schemes, he’d certainly not allow Valerie in the open. He’d take care of her emotional and physical needs, I’m sure” Vince had told Tricia.
“We can’t just assume my love. We can’t just sit here and draw inferences, making rational and logical conclusions that everything would be okay when we know how much Leonard loved and committed himself to Vivian. What if she shows up later? What if she does get Leonard back when Valerie is already neck deep?” Tricia argued
“Sweetheart, I can bet with our future that it’s not going to happen. Yes my dear, Leonard can never be back with Vivian. She knew they were never going to be okay as a couple ever again, not with Leonard being unable to get the picture of the punk he had met with her off his mind.
I’m a man baby, and the number of times I put myself in his shoes, imagined meeting a dude with you, and how I’d have faired, I have on those occasions come to the conclusion that Leonard is a man with a lion heart, for him to have thought of working things out with her.
But you know what sweetie, as much as he tried, his biological features weren’t that magnanimous. He was unable to get it on with Vivian, and from what I know, it would have taken a long time, if not forever to have him erase that memory. So you see, Vivian won’t be missing Leonard, and he also would certainly not want a woman whose presence was ruining his masculinity, long before the pregnancy resulting from the ugly incident came up” Vince explained in clear terms to his woman.
“Oh I see!” Tricia had replied, but looked worried still. “Look baby, I give you my words, I’m going to make sure your kiddo sis is okay. I’m going to speak to Leonard to give you double assurance, but trust me baby, your sister is going to be okay” he had assured her before he dialed Leonard’s number.
Sitting quietly besides Valerie by the pool side, Leonard was thinking about what could have made Vince sound the way he did, and he told Valerie.
“Vince sounded a bit agitated on the phone. I really can’t place what could have made him sound that way” he said.
“Maybe he’s found out that his girlfriend wants you for a sidekick” Valerie said nonchalantly.
“Don’t be ridiculous Valerie. Your sister is deeply in love with Vince. Her heart is too occupied with him to have any space for any man but him” he told Valerie, trying not to sound as annoyed as he was to hear that Valerie could say such a thing about her kind hearted sister.
“Why are you sounding as if you’re angry with me? Do you know why I said what I said?” she complained, rubbing her right eye as though she was about to cry.
She went ahead to tell her man about how she had told her sister of their relationship, with the hopes that she’d rejoice with her for finding love, but ended up getting a rejection from her.
She told him how she had insisted that she must not be involved with him, and how she had hit her when she told her she’d never let her have her man for a sidekick.
“Oh baby, you have just been very unfair to your sister. If she had anything for me my dear, she’d have made that move even before I knew you. And though she cared a great deal for me while I faced the storm with Vivian, I could differentiate between how she cared for me and how your care was laced with tender love and more” Leonard told her
“You must be kidding me! Oh lord, you’re saying you’ve always known what I feel for you!” she asked covering her face with her two palms
“Common darling, there’s nothing to be shy about. We’ve both felt strongly for each other since the first day we met. Remember how I lost my cool sitting in the car beside you that day, I almost couldn’t breathe while you kept looking at me” he told her, holding her left hand.
“Oh please! If you had the same feelings I’ve always had, why didn’t you approach me since then?” she asked
“The same reason you were working so hard to conceal the feelings you’ve always had. The same reason you had to keep calling me a big brother when you know I meant more to you!” he told her, pinching her nose lovingly.
“You know my love, nothing is as energy draining as keeping your emotions in check. I’m glad I didn’t have to fight the feelings for too long. Who knows, maybe the force of our love made those complications arise in my marriage with Vivian to enable us have our fated union” he told her.
“So if what you’re saying is correct, then I’m in for a long period of penance. Tricia is going to make me pay for accusing her wrongly” Valerie lamented, almost crying.
“Don’t worry so much my love. I’ll talk to her and make her forgive you. But it would cost you” he told her playfully.
“Name your price!” she responded quickly. “A sweet kiss for a starter, and an hour long dance session” he demanded straight faced.
“You asked for it!” she told him as she pounced on him unabashedly, kssing him so sweetly, that Leonard almost didn’t hear his phone ring.
When he managed to pull out from the kiss to take the call, it was Vince, calling to remind him they needed to see
