“Erik, what’s up?” I said through the phone.
“I just called to inform you that with all that is and has happened between us we need to talk. I think it’s better if I talk to you personally than through a phone call.” He said. I could hear the sadness in his voice.
“Yeah sure,” I said.
I needed to talk to him. A lot had happened and it is better that he found out sooner than later.
“So how does tomorrow sound.” He paused his voice high in excitement. “Meet me at the cafe at nine a.m.”
I paused a moment trying to recall if I had any lectures tomorrow around that time.
“OK see you there,” I said.
“Bye, I have another call. ” I said looking at my phone’s screen.
“Good night.” He whispered before hanging up.
I looked at my phone’s screen to see Michael’s name.
What did he want this time?
I answered his call reluctantly.
“Michael, what do you want?” I said getting to the point. My voice somehow sounded more aggressive and annoyed than intended.
“Oh, I’m sorry I was disturbing your make-out session with my brother.” He said. For the first time, I couldn’t tell whether he was being sarcastic or not.
“Why would you think that?” I said.
“Why else would you have answered the phone like that?” He said letting out a laugh.
“We weren’t. I’m just under stress right now.” I said.
“Give me one reason why I should believe you weren’t making out with my brother.” He said in a challenging tone. I bet he had a smirk right now.
This was one of his game. If I didn’t answer he would pester me forever.
“Charles said i should stay away from you and you’re not the nicest guy i think you’re” i said.
He remained dead still for a while as if he was processing the words.
“You kidding right?” He said in a cheerful tone.
“No, I’m not, he told me that himself,” I said.
He might not have said it directly but he hinted that.
“OK, I believe you. You just gave me an idea.” He said.
“Don’t do anything stupid,” I said.
Charles would probably kill me for this.
“I won’t, good night.” He said.

I’d be meeting Erik today.
This time I made sure I was on time.
By the time I woke up Charles was already gone, sometimes I just didn’t have the strength to deal with him. I was too tired for his sarcastic comments.
I ordered an Uber to take me to the cafe. It was the cafe Erik and I first met, that’s why it’s so special. We have had many memories in that cafe together.
When I got to the cafe he was already there. He always made it a point to arrive twenty minutes prior, he said it gave him time to prepare.
“Erik,” I said in excitement walking towards him.
“Please take a seat, I think you and I really need to talk.” He said.
My smile dropped at his words. Usually, he would greet me or welcome me with a hug.
I took my seat as he said.
I noticed the bags under his eyes and how messy his hair looked, he always bushed his hair back never allow anyone to touch it.
We sat in awkward since.
I finally broke the silence.
“Yes, we do need to talk,” I paused. “Something has been going on with you, you have not been answering my calls or replying to my messages and now you just expect me to play things cool. What is going on with you?” I scolded.
Maybe I was overreacting because I too am keeping something from him.
How do i tell my boyfriend that my parents arranged someone for me to marry?
“What is going on with me? You are the one that left me for a rich guy just because your mother didn’t like me. Do you know how much it hurts to find out from someone else you were engaged? I guess our love meant nothing at all to you. Did you even love me?” He said.
I’ve never seen Erik this broken before.
“Yes I did and I still love you. I didn’t leave you. I’m just facing a lot of things right now. It’s not that simple for me!” I whisper yelled.
“It’s not like that, I wish I could give you a better explanation but I can’t,” I said.
“Then I guess this is goodbye.” He said and stromed out angrily.
