OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 101 – 110

Episode 107

I headed straight to the kitchen. I don’t think Dad and grandad had returned. All I could see was empty vessels. Man! I asked Sara not to prepare. I was a terrible cook.

And frankly, I wasn’t in the mood to have fruits. I felt like having something cheesy and warm.

After searching all the cabinets, I could find Maggie and a packet of pasta. Oh my!

I was breathing heavily now. I sat on the stool of the kitchen. I think I don’t have any options tonight.
“Hey! Wifey…. Are you starving or are you craving?” I was startled that I nearly jumped.

“Ansh!! Oh, you scared me twice tonight. Well… I am starving as well as craving.”

“I don’t think someone would be scared if her husband is sleeping beside her unless it is Mrs. Ahana Raichand.”

“Haha! Very funny…..”
“Good…. At least I can amuse you. So, tell me what are you cooking for me since there is no dinner cooked.”
I sat with my hands folded on the kitchen counter.

“You…..” I said, pointing towards him.
“…… Tell me where were you? Do you know what time it is?”

He was coming closer to me.
“Oh! So my wife missed me…. But Ahana… Do you know what time I returned? All I witnessed was you snoring.”

“Hey! I don’t snore. And I don’t miss you.”
“Okay… But I am hungry too. Please cook something, dear wife.”

I sat thinking. I didn’t know what to cook.
“Can we order something?” I said quickly.

He looked at me, suddenly.
“Well…. Let’s see which restaurant serves us something delicious at 12:15 am at night and, most importantly, something that my wife is craving for. Isn’t it?”

This man!
“Arrgghh…. Okay…. I don’t know how to cook. I never learned. And technically, there are no restaurants nearby serving us. McD was an option, but till midnight. My craving is not important, but fulfilling my stomach is. So… I can prepare some Maggie. Will you have some? I won’t burn it.”

“Hmmmm…..” He said, coming behind me and wrapping his arms around me.

“Well, my dear practical wife. Nice suggestion. But your cravings matter. Jaai told me you are having those now. I know you went to have cheesecake.

And moreover, I don’t want the baby to think lowly of me. So… Since you forgot, let me remind you that your husband, hey look here…” He whispered in my ears, making me turn towards him.

“…… Knows how to cook delicious food. So… It would be nice if you could tell me what is it that you want to eat, that keeps you and me from sleeping…..” He said, grinning.

“Very well….. And since when did Jaai start working as your spy too?” I asked, my face lighting up. I was damn hungry now.

“Ahana!! We are cool now… I hope you get that… I want to make it right.” He said genuinely.

“Okay… That’s wonderful. So…. I would like to have something warm and cheesy and creamy…..” I said, rubbing my hands on my stomach.

“Like what?? What do you think we have in the house at this time.”
“Look… It’s your mistake. You offered me to prepare now, it’s your headache.”

He went towards the fridge and started hunting for something. Then my eyes fell on that thing which I wanted. Something that I wanted badly…

“PASTA!!!” I said pretty loudly.
“Pasta??? Really….” He said, looking at me and simultaneously taking cheese cream and butter out of the fridge.

“Why…. What is the problem?” I said, climbing back to my place on the kitchen counter.

” Hmm… Since when did you start liking pasta? You don’t usually enjoy Italian food, right?” He says, folding his arms. His muscles tighten a bit, and I notice a bulge in his white t-shirt.

“Well… Since my husband cooked it for me. I remember… Don’t you? And anyway, it shouldn’t matter to you. It’s my choice… A change of heart…”

“I like this change… And did you forget that Ansh Raichand doesn’t forget anything?” He asks, placing the pan on the stove.

“Are you just going to stand there and keep on talking, or do I have to go to bed hungry?”

“God!! Ahana… Patience, darling… Anyway, I like this demanding Ahana…”

I give him a skeptical look, and then he starts working. He puts the pasta and vegetables to boil and prepares the pasta sauce. I look at him in awe.

Time and again, he moves his hand through his messy black hair and rolls up his sleeves a bit further.

“So… When did you learn to cook? A hobby?”

“Hmm… You can say so. I used to cook for myself when I was doing my post-graduation in London. And I cook for only special people,” he says, winking at me.

So, how should I take that now…

“And who taught you to make this delicious recipe?” I ask, looking at him. But he is busy doing something.

“Well… My girlfriend. She loves pasta.”

“What?!” I nearly choke, almost spilling the water.

Why am I so surprised? Wasn’t this expected? Of course, it was.

“What? Are you jealous?” He smirks. I hate that look.

“No… Is there a reason to be? Of course, you would have a lot of girlfriends. I don’t mind.”

“Really… Because your expression says otherwise.”

No… He can’t read my mind.

“Yes, I can. What makes you think I have them?”
