OUR MARRIAGE IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER : EPISODES 61 – 70

Episode 62

At that moment, I understood that men aren’t as strong as they appear on the outside, and women aren’t as weak as they pretend to be.

True love knows no limits. It brings out the strength and vulnerability in everyone.

“So… What’s the news in London?” I asked after a while. We were now standing outside the car in front of my house. I could see the light on in my room. Maybe Ansh was home, but I doubted it since he never came home this early.

Oh, again I have to stop thinking about him.

“A few months ago, my private detective informed me that he had seen Zara in London. He had been tracking her since then but lost her again. She seemed to be there for some business, but damn… She never leaves a trace. I’ve been completely lost for a month. I have a feeling she changed her name and identity.

I don’t know why. I think she’s working in a good position but keeping a low profile. Why, Hana… Why? Am I being punished so harshly?” I could see him on the verge of tears.

“J… I’m so proud of you. I’m proud that you didn’t give up. It’s just that you need to overcome some of the tests set by God. I miss her too. I miss our old golden days, the three of us. I swear, J, I’m trying my best, but…”

“It’s fine, Hana… I messed up, so I’ll sort it out. Take care of yourself and Ansh. I’ll leave now.”

As he was about to leave, I saw a tear escape his eyes. I quickly held him and gave him a tight hug.

“After seeing Piya and Mir, I wonder if I’ll ever regain that happiness,” I heard J whisper in my ear.

“Of course, sooner. I know your love is enough to keep you together. Now go and catch your flight.” I said, wiping his tears and giving him a brief kiss on his cheek.

“Hana…” He called me before leaving.
I replied, “Hmmmm…”
“What if I don’t find her?” I could see the pain in his eyes. Is love really so agonizing…

I swear I don’t want to love anyone.
I didn’t know how to answer. It’s true that we are searching for her, but it’s all in vain. I didn’t want Jaai to have false hope, but I couldn’t bear to see him so helpless. Somewhere deep down, I knew he was falling apart. I wished I could help him.

“I don’t know, J… But believe me, everything will be fine. The ending is always happy, and if it isn’t happy, then it’s not the ending yet…” I said.

“Hana…. You are just wonderful… Bye.. See you.” We parted our ways hugging once again.

I looked up towards my room. The light was still on. But my mind was preoccupied. I missed those days when I used to smile with all my heart.

I Jaai and Zara.
Ahana Sehgal, Jaai Mehra and Zara Zaveri.

We were together from our school days. Everyone used to call us the “Wholesome Threesome.”

Jaai was an orphan adopted by our English Teacher, Shyam, and his wife Hina. He was always grateful to them. Both took care of Jaai as their own son. They always loved me too. We used to hang out with them after our school got over.

Zara lived near my house. She lived with her Mom and Dad. Her father was a businessman just like mine. But five years back they shifted to New York and we lost all contacts. But Zara still lived in Mumbai because of her studies and job.

No matter how rich they were, Zara wanted to do something on her own. And she worked hard for it.
” Hana….” Zara too called me just like Jaai did.

” Yup… Zar…. I know we are going shopping today. I’ll wind up my work early.” I said on my cell. We had planned a mini vacation to Maldives, so we both were going on a shopping spree.

Jaai had also started his own business. And now it was blooming. He went to do his MBA in London and Zara too followed him there to do her Fashion Designing course. Although they didn’t agree, they realized their love in London.

” Hana… I am just going for my college there. Don’t you dare think I am going behind him.” She told me when I went to drop her at the airport.

” Hmm… I know, I know….” I said smirking.
Just thinking about that day brings a smile to my face.

The day when they both left together for 2 years and returned as the happiest couple in the world. I was so happy for them.
We didn’t meet much as we all were busy in our lives, so we had planned this outing.

Jaai and Zara were dating each other for the last two years. After their numerous fights and arguments, they finally realized their love for each other.

” J… Babe…. Where are you? We have to leave in an hour.” Zara called him. We were waiting for him for 2 hours. Our flight was in 3 hours, and he didn’t show up yet.
” Coming… Sweetie.” Saying so, he hung up.

An hour turned into 4 hours. We missed our flight, and we were still waiting for him on the verandah with our bags packed. I could see Zara crying now. She was more than upset.

But then Jaai came running all wet due to his sweat. He had red and yellow roses in his hand.

” Zar…. Baby…. Look, I am sorry. I really didn’t mean it.” He came nearer, but Zara refused to look up.
He gave me one yellow rose out of the bunch of flowers and the rest to Zara.

It was a rule always. I would receive just one yellow rose while Zara could get red and yellow both. She loved roses. They both had their very first fight due to roses. A stupid argument.

He gave Red for their Love and Yellow for their Friendship.
He drew her face closer to his by lifting her chin up.

” Sorry…. I was getting in my car when an important client showed up. It was dmn urgent.

“I promise I’ll make it up to you, Love…” He was pleading now.

She finally looked up at him. Tears were streaming down her face. I was also upset, but Zara was the one who was the most excited. She secretly told me about her plan to propose to Jaai. She said it would be the best trip ever.

She got up and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. He wiped away her tears.

“It’s okay… Babe… I know work is important. But you have to promise me that you’ll make it up to me today.”
“Deal…” He replied, and they both reunited.

“And who is going to make it up to me? Jaai, aren’t you going to apologize to me? Huhh!” I said, giving a grim look.
“I am…”

“I am…”
Both said together, and we all burst out laughing.
They were deeply in love until that day when destiny broke them apart.

But in a year after they returned, I didn’t know our lives would change so drastically.

Just thinking about those days brings goosebumps on my skin. I was already crying now. My cheeks were wet, and I didn’t even realize that I was sitting on our stairs near my bedroom.

“Crying for that friend of yours. Missing him already. Didn’t you have fun drinking coffee?” I heard that familiar husky voice and stood up at once. That cologne which I can’t forget.

“I thought you were done crying and wiping his tears off. I swear he must be missing you too.” I don’t know what the heck he thinks.

But his eyes were already red.
“Ansh…….” I turned around completely now.

I could clearly see a whiskey bottle in his hand.

He was drinking alright!!

Why is he drinking??

ANSH’S POV

“Ansh…” I heard her faint voice.
Why does she always want to start like this?

I really like it when she calls my name. It sounds so amazing.
“Look… You are getting us wrong…” She was explaining to me again.

“Ahana… I am not an idiot. Do get that straight in that smart mind of yours.

I can see things clearly. And it’s not like you both do things privately. You are quite bold, I must say. I have a gutsy wife.”

“So… It was you who were spying on me again from our room.”

“I wasn’t spying. It’s my room, and it’s my wish to look anywhere I like.

I wanted some fresh air, and then what I see is my wife hugging a stranger and wiping his tears….

Wow… What a view…” I could see she was crying too. But I was really upset with her behavior.

I shouldn’t be, though. But why do they do all this in front of me?
“You aren’t home so early. And J is not a stranger…”

“….. Yeah!! He is your only best friend. I know…”

“And… Anyways Ansh, it shouldn’t matter to you. You only said we can do anything we want.”
