I listened as the heart monitor beep slowly, my hopes going down with each beeping. I holds on to my baby’s hand tightly praying she’d just open her eyes.
My mind flashback to our conversation with the doctor three days ago.
*Flashback, three days ago*
“We tried all we could but we couldn’t revive her” the doctor said and just like that I found myself falling down.
Harry caught me in time and supported me with his arms around my waist.
“Wh-what did you say?” I asked again to confirm if my ears failed me.
“We couldn’t revive her, your highness”
I pointed my fingers at him.
“But you promised me….you said you’d save my baby” I turned to Harry. “Harry, he promised us, right?” Harry nods.
“Yes, baby…but…calm..”
I pushed Harry’s hands away from my body.
“Then why is he telling that he couldn’t revive her, do you know that Peace is my life? Do you know how much pain I went through because of her? Now you’re telling me that my baby is dead? Huh?”
“Elena, I know what you are going thro….” Mom tried to say but I cut her off.
“No, you don’t! Do you know what it takes to lose your baby”
“Your highness, you misunderstood me” the doctor said.
I paused and look at him with hopeful eyes.
“What do you mean I misunderstood you?” I asked.
“I mean she’s in coma, I tried to wake her up now but she didn’t, so we’ll have to wait for her to wake up on her own” he explained.
“So you mean my Peace is alive?”
“Yes, we can say that. She had a very hard fall, thankfully she didn’t sustain any injuries. But she had concussion, which sent her into coma, all we can do is wait for her”
I smiled. My baby is safe, she’s alive.
“When she wakes up?” Harry asked.
“Let’s say, two days later”
*End of flashback*
But it’s the third day already, and my baby is still laying lifeless here. Her skin has turned pale and her face has lost its color.
“Elena!”
That pulled me out of my thoughts. I turn and see Gabrielle standing behind me with a tray in her hands.
She puts the tray on a table and sits next to me.
“Elena, you have to eat something”
“I’m not hungry” I replied.
“But you can’t keep on starving yourself like this, if you don’t take care of yourself how can you take care of Peace when she wakes up”
I look around the ward, it’s only me and her inside, I guess everyone has gone out to eat.
“Where’s Harry?”
“He’s making pancakes” she answered.
I nod. Harry had been making pancakes everyday waiting for Peace recovery, he said she might be hungry when she wakes up, so he had to prepare her favorite food. But I know that, that is the only way he could console himself and keep his cool.
Everyone is sad and everyone has their own way of consoling themselves.
“Elena, please eat some…..”
A sound cuts her off. It’s a…. Sneeze?
Wait… Are we hearing things now? These days I’ve always seen Peace in my dreams, maybe I’m just imagining hearing her sneeze.
“Ma… Mama!” A tiny voice called.
My eyes grow wide. Am I also imagining hearing her voice too…
Gabrielle and I exchange looks.
“Mama…. Water”
I slowly turn my head back to Peace and sees her sitting on the bed.
Sitting!
I open my mouth to scream out in joy, but no words came out.
“Oh. My. God! Peace is awake!” Gabrielle shouts.
I nod. Not knowing what to do, I grab my baby and hug her very tight to myself. I feel something wet falling on my hands, that’s when I knew I was crying.
“I need to tell everyone about this!” Gabrielle said and rushed out.
“Mama, water”
I sit her back on the bed and quickly poured water on a glass and takes it to her mouth. She takes quick, large gulps.
“Baby, take it slowly” I rub her back so that she won’t choke.
Just then the door burst open and everyone rushed in.
“My grand baby, my grand baby” Mom said and carries Peace in her arms, she placed a kss on her forehead as tears pour from her eyes.
Peace simply looks at her strangely, I can’t blame her, she doesn’t know Mom. Dad also kisses her forehead and carries her from Mom.
“Welcome back, Princess” dad said.
“I’m Peace” she holds dad’s face in her hands. “What’s your name?”
We all laugh at her question. I miss this, I miss Peace.
“I’m grandpa”
“Grandpa?” She asked.
“Yes, and this is grandma”
Peace doesn’t know what they mean but she nods and give them a cute smile. Gabrielle takes her from them and twirl around.
“And I’m your Aunt, Aunt Elle”
Peace nods again, just then my Aunt walks in.
“And this is your grandaunt” Gabrielle introduced my aunt to her.
Aunt looks at Peace with tears brimming in her eyes.
“I thought I’d never see this” she turns to me. “Can I hold her”
I think about it for a moment. Now that my baby is alive why not let bygones be bygones, it’s a fresh start for me. I nod and my aunt carries her.
“Baby, I’m so happy you’re alive. I’m your grandaunt, don’t forget to come visit me all the time, ok”
Peace smiles. Then she starts to look around and her face falls. My guess is she didn’t see who she was looking for.
“Mama, daddy?”
Oh, so she was looking for Harry.
“Daddy is making pancakes for you”
“Wow, and chocolate chirp?” She asked.
I laughed. Instead of chocolate syrup, she said chocolate chirp.
I nudge Gabrielle’s shoulder.
“Did you tell Harry that Peace is awake?”
“No, I just sent someone to inform him”
“Ok…. ”
The door open and Harry rushed in with the pancakes.
“Daddy!” Peace exclaims and jumps into Harry’s open arms.
“My Princess is back” he said.
Peace giggle and nod.
“Do you know how worried you made me and your mama? Don’t do that again, ok”
“Yes” she replied.
Then we heard a low growl and all eyes turned to Peace.
She chuckled.
“Hungry” she said.
Harry sit her on the bed and put the pancakes and bowl of chocolate syrup in front of her.
“Help yourself princess, or do you want me to help you?”
She shakes her head quickly and starts to eat.
We watch as she eat bit by bit.
I sigh in contentment, my baby is back to me what else do I need.
Harry stands up and clears his throat.
“I wanted to say this after Stephano’s arrest, but unexpectedly, my daughter was injured so I decided to wait until she’s ok. Now that she’s fine again, I’ll say it” he paused and look around, everyone is looking at him curiously. “Elena and I will have to abandon Peace with you guys for two weeks”
I gasped loudly. What is he trying to do… I can’t leave my daughter now that I almost lost her.
“Why do you want to leave her with us?” Gabrielle asked.
Harry locked gaze with me and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Elena and I are going for our honeymoon” I hear awwwn all over and I feel myself blush. “we didn’t have time to go on our honeymoon before due to the situation then, but now everything is settled, I think it’s the best time to enjoy ourselves and rest too” he said.
“wow! That’s so sweet Harry” aunt said.
“Don’t worry, you guys can stay as long as you want, we’ll take good care of Peace” Mom said.
“But… ”
“No buts baby” Harry cuts me and wink at me.
I feel everyone’s eyes on me. Maybe this honeymoon will help me calm down and rest from all these.
“Daddy, water”
We all suddenly turned out attention to Peace. Harry takes the water and gives it to Peace. But my little devil has another plan, she rubs chocolate syrup on Harry’s face instead.
“Oh, Princess you didn’t just do that” Harry said in an intimidating voice trying to scare Peace, she simply laugh.
“I did”
Then Harry packs chocolate and runs it on her face, Peace tries to get away but Harry didn’t let her.
“No, daddy no”
“No princess”
“Daddy, mercy! Mercy!”
Soon everyone, including dad is fighting with chocolate syrup.
“Please take it easy on my daughter, she’s still recovering!” I screamed on top my voice but no one listens to me. They continue playing and running around.
If they continue like this, this ward would soon turn into chocolate parlour. But I didn’t stop them…. I watch them play happily.
This is the kind of family I want… A carefree family…. Living everyday as if it’s the last…I pray everyday will be like this.
This is my perfect happy ending…..
