A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

? Chapter 4?

There was a long silence in the kitchen after the cups dropped.
They all had their jaws down as they stared at the pieces.

Tristan’s eyes moved slowly from the cup till they landed on me, I gave him a smile.

“That’s it.”
He said with his left hand fisted and for a moment I saw the beast inside him about to unleash, the veins on his neck and wrist scared me.

“Hey calm down, you don’t wanna do this.”
His friend held him back.

“She is just another immature girl, don’t do it.”
I eyed him at his statement.

“You have to remember why you’re doing this, you’ve gone far already. I know how much those cups mean to you, she is upset.”
Tristan gave me a murderous stare, he pulled away from his friend and walked out of the kitchen.

I stared at his friend who looked relieved for some reason, I was kinda confused but I stayed mute.

“I get that you’re upset, Chloe, but you shouldn’t have, Tristan, is gonna tell you when he is ready.”

“I just want him to say the truth. Why did he toy with my life like that? I wanna know, am I not allowed to at least know why he picked me?”

“Soon, Chloe, I promise.”
He said softly.

“Ouch!” I winced at the sharp pain under my feet.

“I’m fine.”
I held my hand up stopping him as he moved to help me.

“Morris where is my room?”
I tried to hide the pain in my voice.

I limped to my room, leaving blood behind but Morris promised to clean it.

I walked to the bathroom and sat on the toilet then pulled out the pieces of glass that succeeded in piercing my feet.

I tried to suppress my scream, the pain was unbearable. Tears brimmed at the edge of my eyes after I was done.

I whimpered as I took slow steps to search for the first aid kit but I found none.

I decided to wash the blood off and dried it with a towel but the bleeding won’t stop so I tied my feet with the extra towels and crawled to the bed.

I wiped the tear that rolled down away and stared at my room, it looked like a luxurious hotel suite.

My head was starting to ache, I groaned and laid on the bed.
I wanted to catch some sleep and forget about today.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

There was a sudden agonizing pain on my left foot that woke me up.

“Easy, stay still.”
I opened my eyes to the voice.

“Tristan?”

“Did you sleep well?”
I looked at him in bewilderment, he was sitting on my bed with my feet on his laps and a first aid kit beside him.

“The cuts are deep.”
I sat up slowly and stared at him still confused, a few hours ago he looked like he wanted to kill me.

“You stained the bed, the towels didn’t hold the blood and some tiny glass were still inside.”

“Why are you doing this?”
I asked trying to pull my legs away but he held them back.

“You’re my responsibility now.”
I scoffed lowly.

“Morris will take you to the hospital tomorrow.”

“No, thank you.”

“You will get an infection if you don’t get this checked.”

“My parents cut me off so…”

“I will take care of it.”
I winced and held my breath at the pain.

“Sorry I broke your phone, I got you a new one.”
He pointed to the nightstand.

I picked up the new phone with my old sim card at the corner.

I stared at him wishing I could read his mind, I badly wanted to understand the situation.
Like he felt my eyes on him, he looked up and I cocked an eyebrow at him.

“You looked so innocent when I saw you, but I guess you can’t really judge a book by its cover”

“Ohh now you know that? You thought I was easy prey?”

“You were at the beginning.”
He wrapped a bandage around my foot slowly.

“You know there were many women in that church who would’ve happily play your dumb game.”
He smiled, I didn’t know which smile was fake anymore.

“You should’ve picked someone your age, maybe if I was 26 people might just ignore it or maybe if you didn’t add the fake pregnancy news I’d still be home with my family.”
He smiled again and I tried everything possible not to hit his face with my wounded foot.

“Why?”

“To make it look more realistic.”
I was still clueless.

“What are you up to Tristan?”

“I will tell you soon, Chloe, I need some time.”

“You know, I can just rush to the hospital and take a pregnancy test and get your ass to court. I will demand your whole wealth if I get the chance.”

“If you want money, I will give it to you but I really need this to work.”

“What to work? And FYI I don’t need your money.”
He went mute and kept his eyes on my foot.

“You just destroyed my life, the least you can do right now is tell me why I’m involved in this shit.”

“I will, I need some time. I promise I will tell you everything, Chloe.”

“How much time are we talking about here?”

“A month”

“A…what?”
I gasped.

“You want me to stay away from my family for a month, what if Grey finds another girl?”

“Then he never loved you.”
He said coolly.

“No, I can’t wait for a month. You want me to put my life on hold for you? I’m trying to keep my sanity so you won’t end up dead, so think.”

“Three weeks then.”

“No.”
He looked away from my right foot and gave me a frustrated look.

“I have a life to live, you’ve enjoyed your twenties let me enjoy mine.”

He sucked in a breath and stared at me.

“Two weeks and that’s final.”

“Dude, you don’t get to make that decision. I can expose you and put you behind bars but I’m in a tough spot right now, so I will take it.”

“But within these two weeks, you have to promise not to destroy anything in this house.”

“Sorry, I’m not good at keeping promises.”

“Chloe?”

“I will try but you’ll end up disappointed.”
He wrapped the second foot and It looked like someone cut off my feet.

“Can you walk?”

“No, I had to crawl from the bathroom to the bed.”

“I brought some painkillers.”

“How thoughtful of you.”
I said sarcastically, he packed the first aid kit and gave me the pills with a bottle of water.

“I’m sorry it had to be you and sorry it turned out this way.”

“What were you expecting to happen? For a baby bump to suddenly appear and me proclaiming my love for you?”
I mumbled and took a sip.

He stood up with the first aid kit and headed for the door.

“Tristan,” I called sitting upright.

“Yeah?”

“Two weeks, if you don’t fix this after two weeks I will bring this beautiful house of yours down and I will haunt you day and night while you rot in jail.”
I threatened.

“You’re ¢razy.”
He said and walked out of the room before I could make a comeback.

I gasped and looked around, he was underestimating me, I thought after destroying his valuable paintings and favourite cups he would find me as a threat.

“Moron.”
I mumbled taking a look at my surroundings properly, the view outside the ground-to-ceiling glass was spectacular.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

The pool glowed in the dark under the moon and there was a beautiful garden a few feet from the pool. If only I could move, at least not everything was built-in glass, there was shiny wood joining some parts of the building for decency I guess.

There was a knock on the door.
“Come in.”

Morris walked in with his fingers folded together, as usual, his white gloves still on.

“Good evening Miss Simpson, how are you feeling?”

“Please call me, Chloe.”

“I’m sorry I can’t, Miss.”

“Whatever, do you need something?” I groaned in frustration.

“Mr. Sanchester sent me to get you for dinner.”

“I’m not hungry.”
My stomach decided to betray me by grumbling.
I forced a smile and nodded, he moved closer to carry me.

“What are you doing?”
I asked when he reached for my legs.

“I was asked to carry you.”

“No, I’m good.”
There was no way I was allowing the old guy to carry me, I was worried about his age and health.
He looked fragile and I was not going to take the risk.

“Tell Tristan I want him to carry me to the dining, not you.”

“I assure you I won’t drop you.”

“Thank you but no.”

“I insist Miss.”

“No.”
He gave up and left.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

It took some minutes before Tristan appeared, he scowled and moved to the bed.

I opened my arms with a wide smile, he scooped me up bridal style and left the room.

“How old are you again?”
He asked as we descended the stairs, I wrapped my arms around his neck scared he might drop me.

“Six,” I replied and he grunted.

He looked down at my face and I smirked at him. He shook his head and mumbled something under his breath.

I stared at his Adam apple that bobbed then my eyes trailed to his face, he didn’t deserve such beauty.

“Stop with the look.”

“What look?” I asked still staring.

“You’re creeping me out.”

“Can I feel your stubble? I have never felt one.”
All the guys I dated never fancied beards or stubble.

“No.”
He said in an irritated tone but I did it anyway to piss him off. He groaned in annoyance as I ran my palm up and down his rough stubble.

“So this’s what it feels like?”
I whispered.

“You’ve had your fill.”
He moved his face away from my touch.

“You’re still here?”
I asked his annoying friend who was waiting at the dining.

Thank God Tristan dropped me gently I was having a feeling he might let go.

“Ouch and I thought you’ll be happy to see me.”
He faked a pained face, I rolled my eyes and stared at the food in front of me.

“Are we celebrating the wreckage you caused in my life?”
I eyed the expensive wine than the mouth-drooling dishes.

His friend chuckled and I noticed a dimple, Tristan arrived with three wine glasses.

“Adrian, pass me the hand napkins.”
So his name was Adrian?

I didn’t know I was starving till I tasted the diced steak with mushroom.

“Morris, this is delicious.”
I said smiling at him, he was standing two feet away like he was waiting for an order.

“I cooked it myself not him.”
Tristan said sounding annoyed.

“Really?”
I stared at the food then at him, I gagged.

“I was about to tell him the salt is too much and the steak is overcooked.”
I said reaching for my glass of wine.
Adrian tried to suppress his laughter.

He was about to say something but his ringtone stopped him.

“It’s my mom.”
He said to Adrian, he left the dining to answer the call.

“How bad is the wound on a scale of one to five?”

“100.”

“That’s really bad.”

“Thanks to your friend.”

“Those paintings you destroyed can make you the richest person in the world if all the money is summed up.”

“Who cares?” I reached for the wine and refilled my glass.

“And those cups you broke was….”

“I don’t wanna hear it, are you trying to make me feel like the bad guy here?”

“Sorry.”
He raised his hand in surrender.

Tristan returned and we ate in silence, Morris cleared the dining when we were done.

“Adrian will take you to your room.”
Tristan said, standing up. He seemed to be in a sour mood since he returned to the dining.

“No, I want you to carry me not him.”
Adrian smiled as he sipped the remaining wine.

“Do you wanna crawl to your room or let him take you?”

“None of the above, you said it yourself I’m your responsibility.”

“Fine.”
I didn’t like the sound of that, he moved fast to where I was and threw me on his shoulder like I was a piece of cloth.

“This position is uncomfortable.”
I groaned, his shoulder bones pressed my stomach.

“Tristan put me down!”
The pain increased as he climbed the stairs.

His lean a$s was staring at my face, I thought of pinching it but stopped myself.

“You’re hurting me, I’m going to throw up if you don’t stop.”

“Shut up,” he grunted.

“I will fart on your face if you don’t stop.”
I wished I hadn’t said that.

I was glad he didn’t say anything, I endured the pain and tried to breathe.

I was relieved when we got to my room, he threw me on the bed and left the room.

“That was a bumpy ride.”
I massage the spot and laid in bed for a while.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I crawled to the bathroom and washed my face in the bathtub, it was impossible to have a bath.

I sat on the floor next to the bathtub with my toothbrush and toothpaste.

I cleaned the tub when I was done and returned to the room, luckily for me, my things were unpacked, I grabbed a grey sweat and blue singlet and slipped them on.

I felt crippled as I crawled up my bed, I thought of my family and Grey. How did this happen? Why did I ditch my homework for a wedding?
I went to bed quicker than I expected.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

Morris woke me up the next day with breakfast in bed since Tristan was gone.

The doctor’s appointment was by 12:30. It took me an hour to get ready and I tried to take a bath but couldn’t.

I allowed Morris to carry me to the car, I felt so bad though.

The doctor kept trying to have a conversation with me as he ran some tests.
The x-ray freaked me out a bit, we waited for some minutes for the results.

I was carried around in a wheelchair and brought to the consultant.

“Good news, no infection and the glass didn’t touch your bones.”
I faked a smile.

“We’re going to stitch it up and give you some pills but you have to take the wheelchair home with you.”

“What?”

“You need the wheelchair for movement.”
She explained.

“Is it that bad? Will I be able to walk again?”
I panicked.

“Relax Chloe it’s only for a few days.”

“How many days are we talking about here?”

“Five or eight days and you’ll be back on your feet.”
I exhaled in relief.

“How do I bath?”

“Well, for now, I will tell you to wait till your feet are healed but if you have anyone that can help then that’s okay.”
Great! I was the only female in the house.

I screamed during the stitching even if I was given lidocaine to numb the pain. I refused to look at my feet scared to see how it looked.

I kept my face down as Morris pushed the wheelchair out of the hospital. I kept feeling like I had lost my legs.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I stayed in bed for the rest of the day feeling miserable. Belvina wasn’t answering my calls, my sister blocked my calls and my parents ignored all my calls too.

Grey’s line kept going to voicemail, I left like five voicemails.
Morris brought lunch to my room and dinner too.

“Where’s Tristan?”
I asked when he came for the dishes.

“He is busy with work in his study.”

“Does he know about the wheelchair?”

“Yes, Miss Simpson.”

“Tell him I need his help.”

“You’re sure I can’t help you?”

“Yes, Morris.”

Tristan showed up later on black jogger pants that showed off his slim and long legs, his sweatshirt hugged his unfortunately beautiful torso.

“What’s the problem now?”
He sounded tired but who cares?

“I need to brush my teeth.”
He looked at me like I was stupid.

“Seriously Chloe?”

“I can’t move or stand.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Carry me on your back while I brush.”

“Are you kidding me right now?”
He gave me an incredulous stare.

“No.”

“You better make this quick.”
He came closer and I hopped on his back.

We stood in front of the large mirror.

“Could you please put the toothpaste on the toothbrush?”
He glared at me through the mirror before doing it.

His shampoo filled my nostrils as I placed my head on his neck, he gave me the toothbrush.

I placed a paper towel on his shoulder and started brushing with one hand while the other stayed around his neck.

“Please try not to get that on me.”
He said in disgust.

“This is so ridiculous.”
He said and I smiled, I just wanted to torment him a little.

He would lean closer to the washbasin for me to throw my mess away.

“I’m done.”

“What now?”

“Drop me on the counter, I will rinse my mouth from there.”

“Really Chloe? Why didn’t you sit there to brush?”
He asked getting pissed.

“I never thought about it.”
I shrugged and rinsed my face and my mouth but I was smiling in my head.

He didn’t wait for me to dry my face, he carried me back to the room.

He stood in front of me with his hands tucked in his front pockets, I could tell he didn’t like this one bit.

“Anything else?”

“Can you pass me my pyjamas? It’s in the black suitcase.”
I wasn’t sure, it was Ciara that packed my things.

He walked to the black suitcase and I watched him unzip it, my eyes flashed wide-open when I saw my panties and bra scattered at the top.

I turned my face away and pretended to be looking for something on my nightstand.

Really Ciara? This was so embarrassing.

“It’s not in the black suitcase.”
I heard him say, he sounded like he wasn’t bothered.

“Ohh, okay. Thank you for your services I will take it from here.”
I said not looking at him.

“What are you looking for?”

“Uhmm my crystal earrings.”

“You’re wearing it.”
I paused and nodded.

“Good night.”
I said with a firm smile, he was still squatting in front of the suitcase and it was still wide open.
Did he touch them?

“I will check the other suitcases.”

“No,” I said quickly.
Who knows what he might see.

“It’s not my first time seeing a lady’s underwear, Chloe.”

I tried to act confused.

“This.”
He held my black bra up, the nerve of this guy.

“Ohh that, you can close the suitcase now.”
His face was void of any emotion as he stared at them.

“Are you done drooling over my undies?” I tried to joke but he acted like he didn’t hear anything.

“Can you please close the suitcase and leave.”
He did but he walked to the other suitcases and searched for my pyjamas.
He threw it at me and left the room.

I grabbed one pillow and covered my face then screamed.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

Belvina called the next day during breakfast. Tristan left early for work so Morris was at my service.

I answered the call with a mouthful of omelet.

“Hey, Vina.”

“Sorry I missed your call, how is it going with Tristan? Is he going, to tell the truth?”

“Not yet but soon and before I forget I’m in a wheelchair.”

“A wheelchair? Did he break your legs? Should I call your parents or report to the cops?”
I chuckled almost choking on my food.

“Was that a joke?”

“No, I’m really in a wheelchair but it’s nothing serious.”

“How come?”
I gave her every detail of what happened even the suitcase incident.

“Go, girl!”
She said in a sing-song voice, I imagined her throwing one hand in the air.

“I wish I was there, did he really touch your underwears?”

“Uh-huh”

“That’s hot.”
Ewwww

“Vina?”

“What? I will be happy if a hot guy sees my undies.”

“That’s sick.”
I told her.

“Did he see the padded bra too?”
She asked with a dramatic gasp.

“I stopped using that last year.”

“Ohh.”

“Can we please not talk about this?”

“Sure, are you coming back to school?”

“Why not?”

“Can you handle the stares and murmurs?”

“Yes,” I said dryly.

“Are you sure?”

“Bye, I will call you later.”
I ended the call.

I groaned as I remembered my projects that were due on Wednesday. I spent the rest of the day on my projects, thank God Ciara packed them.

I got tired and slept off when I was done with two. It didn’t take long before I heard a knock on my door.

I grumbled and tried to open my eyes, I succeeded and saw Adrian at the doorway to my room. He was leaning on the door frame and smiling at me with his arms folded, what a nice view.

He was wearing a black tracksuit and grey air max. It was like staring at Francisco Lachowski during his photoshoot.

Thank God I didn’t sleep with my mouth open or drool. I sat up with ease and brushed my hair back with my hand.

“Are you lost?”

“No,” he answered with a laugh.

“I came to check on you.”

“Ohh you’ve heard about the cripple girl.”

“Yeah, does it hurt?”

“A little.”

“Dinner is waiting, I will carry you.”

“No, I want Tristan to do it.”

“What are you afraid of?”
He asked with a laugh.

“Nothing, this is Tristan’s fault, so let him carry me.”

“He is not well, you have no choice unless you want me to call Morris.”
He showed off his dimples at the end.

“Fine.”
He walked to the bed with his long strides and scooped me up bridal style.

His cologne tempted me to lean closer and sniff his neck but that would be weird right?

I regretted wearing a dress because his rough hand gripped my thighs making it hard to concentrate on anything else.

I decided to keep my face down cause if I look up it’d be hard to look away.

I decided to start a conversation to get my mind off the feel of him gripping my bare skin.

“Do you live with Tristan?”

“No, but I hang out here a lot.”

“Figured, do you work for him?”

“We are business partners.”

“So you both own the company?”

“Yup.”
I felt relief when we got off the stairs and headed for the dining room.

Tristan was sitting at the dining with all his focus on the tab in front of him.

“You look well.”
I said as Adrian dropped me gently on a seat.

“Actually he is not sick.”
Adrian confessed.

“He refused to do it and since you don’t like Morris carrying you, I decided to help.”
I clenched my fists and my jaw, stabbing him with my eyes.

“I’m tired, Chloe.”
I heard Tristan say.

“I don’t care, you’re the reason I’m in this state, not him!”

“I will continue tomorrow, let Adrian carry you.”
He said not looking at me.

“No,” I disagreed.
He groaned and moved his tab away then looked at me.

“Should I go on my knees and beg you?”
Was he really gonna do that? I mean, I wouldn’t mind to see him on his knees begging but I was better than that.

I looked at Adrian, he was leaning back on his seat and watching.

“Okay, only tonight.”
He breathed out in relief.

“You should have said yes, I really wanted to see him on his knees begging.”
Adrian said and Tristan glared at him.

“Do you guys drink wine at every dinner?”
I asked as Morris filled our flute glass.

“Yeah, it goes well with the food.”
Dinner was fun, Adrian made me laugh so much that I choked on my drink but Tristan was too busy with work on his tab.

Adrian carried me back to my room but this time around his hand didn’t touch my bare skin.

“I need to brush my teeth.”
I told him when he was about to drop me.

He took me to the bathroom and placed me on the counter next to the washbasin.

I missed staring at Tristan’s stubble and his lovely scowl when I try to piss him off. It was fun pissing him off.

Adrian leaned on the counter staring at me as I brushed.

“How did you feel when Tristan picked you?”
I spat out the paste in my mouth to answer him.

“I thought he lost his mind or maybe it was a wedding drama to amuse the congregation.”
I said and went back to brushing my teeth.

He laughed briefly and looked around the bathroom.

“I didn’t see you at the wedding.”

“I travelled, I returned that day and heard about everything.”

“Did you know it was gonna happen?”

“Kinda.”
I rinsed my mouth and leaned closer to the tap to wash my face, Adrian moved closer and held my hair back.

“Thanks.”
I said and washed my face.

“Nice birthmark.”

“It’s not a birthmark but thanks.”
I didn’t want to talk about it.

“Please pass me the face towel.”
I dried my face and he took me back to my room.

He put me slowly on the b ed and stood in front of me.

“At least you’re a lot nicer than him.”

“It’s not easy for him right now but he’ll tell you soon.”

“Yeah, he has 11 days.”
I had the date marked on my phone’s calendar and also an alarm set for that day.

“I hope you will understand how much this means to him.”
He said softly.

“I don’t know, all I want is my life back.”

“I should leave you to get ready for bed.”

“Yes.”

“Can I kss you?”

“What?” I gaped at him

“I meant a friendly goodnight kss on the cheek.”
He said laughing.

“Ohh, sure.”
He moved closer and leaned down to my face his hands still tucked in his pockets.

I turned my left cheek to him and held my breath.

I turned my left cheek to him and held my breath.

“Are you flexible?”

“Huh?”
I turned to look at him only to make our lips touch, my eyes flashed open and my heart stopped beating.

Adrian didn’t pull away instead he went further and captured my upper l ip with his l ips then forced my m©uth open with his t©ngue.

Why wasn’t I pulling away or stopping him? He moved one hand to my neck and pulled my face closer then kssed me deeply.

My eyes closed slowly and I found myself kssing him back.

What the he.ll Chloe Simpson?

************

I love what Chloe did
Wow ? so Adrian kssed Chloe.
How sweet
