Chapter Forty Three

GRACE POV

The next day I and Dave went to school and after Mr Lucas dropped us off at school we went to our different classes.

I got to class and sat on Jeanann’s seat which was empty, I took my backpack off my back and place it on my thighs. Not long after I came in, Angela showed up at the seat with a smile on her lips.

“Hi Grace, good morning”.She waved her hand and I smiled, seeing how happy she looked.

“Hi. How was your night?”.

“It was great, really. In fact, I had the best dream ever, do you wanna know what happened in the dream?”.She asked and I nodded, then she came closer to me and whispered;

“I saw Jeanann in the dream. She was kneeling and begging me to spare her, for what exactly? I didn’t know but I didn’t look like I was gonna spare her. Before I knew it, I started chasing her like a lion and she ran for her life, screaming and begging me to forgive her, to spare her. However when I was about descending on her, I woke up from the dream. Don’t you think the dream looked a little bit cranky?”.She asked and I bursted into laughter which made me earn stares from some of my classmates.

“Yes, the dream was cranky and also ridiculous”.I said, my loud laughter turning into chuckles as I remembered the dream I had in Dylan’s house.

I had forgotten some parts of the dream but I can clearly remember that I was being chased by a man on black.

“You are right Grace. I mean why would I ever chase Jeanann, that can’t happen in reality, well only on a dream though”.She shrugged, placing her two hands on the desk.

“Well Grace, I came here to ask you something”.She added and my eyebrows rose curiously.

“What is it?”.

“It is just a request, it’s your choice to say no or yes”.She sighed, her eyes dropping on the desk she was pinching.

“Hey tell me. You’re keeping me curious”.I frowned slightly, feeling my curiosity lengthen.

“Okay fine, I wanted to ask if you can join me eat lunch in the cafeteria today or tomorrow. I don’t really go to the cafeteria but i just wanna eat lunch there today since am you know free from Jeanann. If it was during other school days and I go to the cafeteria to eat, Jeanann will always find a way to embarrass me and make me feel less of myself but today am finally going to enjoy my lunch because of you. If you haven’t spoken or stood up for me, then possibly I may still be the unhappy Angela everyone used to know. Once again I wanna say thank you Grace for what you did yesterday, you’d save my life without even knowing and I never expected anyone to do that for me but you, someone I didn’t know rescued me, how thankful can I be?”.She said with tears in her eyes.

I didn’t know what to say but I knew I had to say something to clear away those tears from her eyes before it get ready to drop.

Have never been in a situation like this, a situation where by someone thank me this much for something have done for them but now that am in this situation, what can I do or say to stop them from crying?

“Um Angela please you are making me feel sad. I did only what I thought was right, anyone would have done that for you…”.

“No, you are wrong Grace. No one would have helped me out, everyone despises me here….”.

“Now you are wrong, not everyone can despise you in school or in class. Maybe they are still some people here who were ready to defend you but kept shut thinking they will face Jeanann’s wrath”.I said and she bit her lip, a faint smile crossing her face.

“You think so?”.

“I know so but still I think you should try to defend yourself, stop acting like a victim or loser, try to talk back at people when they lie against you, try to look and act bold, give people that ‘don’t mess with me’ look. Stop making them see you as a weakling”.I said and she nodded twice, breathing out.

“I know, my sister tells me that everyday but it sounds so impossible for I to talk back at people. You see, have been bullied by Jeanann since grade eight and it isn’t a new thing to me anymore cause am used to it but do you wanna know why she bullies me? It’s because I used to have acnes, they make me look so ugly but they are gone now leaving me with spots on my face. I think the spots make me look more uglier, don’t you think so?”.She asked and I scoffed.

“Angela to be sincere, you are beautiful. Jeanann is only trying to give you the expression that you are ugly because she wants you to hate yourself, to hate your face”.

“And how do you know that?”.

“Well, I just guessed but I know my guess is true”.

“And why do you think your guess is true? Look Grace, I know you are only trying to make me feel good by lying that am beautiful and all that but no, I know how I look and how ugly I am. You don’t have to lie, okay? Jeez! Since I turned a teenager no guy have never asked me out talking less of making contact with me, they all don’t wanna talk to an ugly girl”.Her face fell and I saw her eyes water.

Seriously? Does she really believe she is ugly? Jeanann did a good job by making her blind to see her beauty.

“Angela I understand how you feel but just try to believe me once, you’re are beautiful seriously. I would hate to lie to you”.

“Then why are guys avoiding me?”.

“Maybe they think that they will get rejected cause they don’t deserve to be with a beautiful girl like you”.As soon as I said that, her cheeks turned pink. I chuckled.

“Uh..So will you eat lunch with me at the cafeteria?”.She asked after she stopped blushing.

“Who will reject dining with a beauty? Of course I will”.I said and she beamed, closing her mouth to muffle a squeak.

“Wow… Thank you Grace, thank you so much”.

“You are welcome”.

Immediately I said that, Jeanann stomped into the classroom angrily with her three friends trailing behind her like ants roaming over a sweet.

Angela quickly dashed to her seat and I sighed heavily as Jeanann stopped at her seat before banging the desk so hard that the windows shook at the sound. Everyone in class stared at her as she stabbed me with her eyes.

“Grace, how could you!”.She yelled with bitterness in her voice, I could also feel the sadness cracking up through her throat as she spoked. “Yes, I know what I did was wrong, I know what I did was prohibited but keeping your mouth shut isn’t a problem!”.

I felt my body tense up as guilt overwhelmed me. I couldn’t maintain contact with her and I dropped my gaze down.

“Because of you, I became the talk of the class and the news is spreading everywhere around school cause you couldn’t keep your dirty mouth shut!”.She rasped and I glance up at her only to see her fuming. She was furious, it was obvious.

“Jean…”.

“Oh please shut up. Just shut up! Because every word you say now from your mouth angers me”.She voiced out and glared at Angela who was hiding on her seat.

“You!”.She spat out and walked up to Angela who was shivering badly.

One of her friends, Harper followed her to Angela’s seat but the remaining two friends, Sophia and Allison stayed at my seat.

I turned back behind me cause Angela was sitting behind the class and through that way I noticed Dylan wasn’t in class. Trying to get him out of my mind, I stare back at Jeanann who was now standing in front of Angela.

“You punk, you are happy now, huh? You said the truth thinking the truth would set you free, right? Well, am glad to announce to you that the truth can’t always set you free from me and you will pay for what you caused me”.She frowned and in one second, she ripped off the shirt Angela had on her which revealed her light transparent singlet that did nothing to cover up her small blue bra.
