Chapter Thirty One
GRACE POV
I woke up the next morning with a smile on my lips. I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth before taking my bath.
Glancing up at the wall clock, I realized the time was 6:52am. Gee, I did wake up early today.
I shrugged and headed downstairs to the kitchen and when I got there, I met Mum making breakfast.
“Good morning Mum”.I greeted and sat on a stool watching her.
She then turned to me with a smile.
“Good morning Grace, how was your night?”.
“It was fine mum but…”.I paused, noticing someone’s absence.
“But what honey? Is anything the matter?”.She asked, looking a bit worried.
“No mum, it’s just that… Where is Nancy?”.
“Oh Nancy? She called few minutes ago saying she won’t be able to make it here early cause she had to drop off her daughter at her friend’s place”.Mum stated but I sigh confusedly, placing my palm on my jaw.
“Mum?”.
“Yes?”.
“Why would Nancy drop off her daughter at her friend’s place?”.
“I don’t know Grace but all I know is that Nancy hardly let her daughter stay at their home when she isn’t around. It’s either she drop her a nursery home or at her friend’s place”.
“Oh!”.I exclaimed still confused though.
The whole thing just seem weird to me. Doesn’t she have a husband or…. But wait! She bears Miss not Mrs. Gosh! Am so confused.
Sighing, I shook my head and went to help mum wash the dishes.
HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 31 – 40
Nancy came during breakfast. Everyone was at the dining room when she came and she had apologized for her lateness. She joined us eat afterwards.
The breakfast prepared was stewed rice and dumplings with a drink of lemonade. It was really refreshing and I had totally enjoyed it.
I remembered my birthday was tomorrow and a beam crossed my lips. Oh! How happy can I be..?
“Mum, dad”.I called and everyone’s eyes turned towards my direction.
Okay? I felt a shy though…
“My birthday is tomorrow, September 29th”.I announced and Nancy was the first to speak.
“Happy birthday, Grace”.She said with a smile.
“Thanks Nancy”.I said and then Mr Liam spoke.
“Happy birthday Grace, may God grant all your wishes”.
“Thank you Mr Liam”.
“Happy birthday kid sis”.This time it was Dave speaking.
I frowned playfully as I pretended to glare at him.
“Gish! Am not a kid anymore”.I scoffed.
“Well, you still are….to me”.He said chuckling and I rolled my eyes, sticking out my tongue to him.
“Grace!”.Dad called and I stared at him. “Happy birthday and I will grant you a gift, I hope you would like it”.
“Wow! Thank you so much daddy, I love you”.I smiled happily, knowing dad’s gifts are always the best.
“Ouch! She just hurt my feelings”.Mum whined dramatically.
“Awwn, I love you too Mum”.I said and her face brightened up.
“Love you too sweetie. Trust me, I will grant you a gift and this time it will be a lot better than that of your dad”.
Dad rolled his eyes immediately mum spilled out those words and that cause me to laugh.
HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 31 – 40
Mr Lucas dropped me off at Dylan’s residence and I hesitated to knock on the gate. Who knows what that Jasper is gonna do to me?
Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the gate but the gate wasn’t opened neither did anyone respond.
I knocked again harder but this time around, I heard a voice but it was different from that of Japer.
“Am coming Grace, hold on! Am coming”.It was Mrs Skylar’s voice.
I wondered how she got to know that it was me who knocked. Wait… Is she some sort of magician?
The gate was finally opened and I stepped into the compound.
“Grace, how are you?”.Mrs Skylar asked smiling.
“Am fine but…”
“But what?”.
“Where is Jasper? Isn’t he the gatekeeper?”.I asked but before I knew it, Mrs Skylar started laughing.
Did I say anything funny?
I thought to myself as I watched her laugh and then she stopped, with a huge beam on her lips.
“Oh dear, you are wrong. Jasper isn’t a gatekeeper”.She said, muffling a chuckle.
“So, who is he then? Cause he always open the gate whenever I come here”.
“Let’s just say Jasper is a friend of Dylan who helps in securing the house”.
“Securing the house? Isn’t that a job?”.
“You won’t understand. To be sincere, even I don’t understand but please, let’s drop this discussion about Jasper”.She said, with her smile fading.
“Oh okay but please, would you answer this last question?”.I asked and she stared at me with her lips tightly pressed.
“Okay. But Grace, hope you wouldn’t ask me anymore question. You know, am just a maid and going into my boss personal life is something I shouldn’t do”.She said, looking kinda uncomfortable.
“Am so sorry Mrs Skylar, am just so curious”.
“It’s fine. Ask the question”.
“Where is Jasper?”.
I didn’t even know why I was asking questions about Jasper, it isn’t like I care about him, am just so curious.
“He might be at his house, who knows?”.She said and began taking some steps towards the house while I did same.
